Inspired by the Moroccan city of Marrakesh, La Fez Café & Bakery is a new Muslim-owned cafe with iconic horseshoe arches, rose pink and gold interiors, and Mediterranean dishes.

Located next to the Chinese-Indonesian restaurant Kota 88 in Siglap, La Fez Café & Bakery is currently still in the soft launch stage and reservations are highly recommended.

On the menu, you can find a selection of All-day Brunch dishes including Riad Breakfast (S$11.90), Majorelle Shakshuka with Feta Cheese (S$19.90) and Kesra Avocados on Soughdough (S$18.90).

Nestled within Camelia & Co, newly-opened Stack is a Muslim-owned sandwich parlour that serves up tasty, hearty and photo-worthy sandwiches. Creativity and a ballsy attitude are key attributes that have led them to come up with so many of their bestsellers.

THE MAKCIK

Nicely balancing moistness and crunch, we can understand why The Makcik (S$13) is a crowd favourite. Cooked low and slow in a fragrant rendang, the tri-tip develops a lean, fork-tender exterior, as well as a robust, heady aroma—just enough to give the sandwich that fiery punch of flavour without overshadowing the other components.

The rendang was spicy, as it should be, and the pickled onion and slightly chilled greens did well to provide a crunch as well as a brightness to the sandwich, nicely combating the richness.

BAMBOOZLE

Aptly named because the sandwich itself is so full of flavour that you’ll fail to realise the absence of meat, the Bamboozle (S$9) is a sandwich that packs formidable finesse and balance. The garlic aioli was light yet assertive in both aroma and taste and complemented the flavours of the mushrooms nicely.

A show of class in the way each and every individual component is executed, this umami-packed megalodon is something that we’ll likely make several return trips for.

SLEEPY NONNA

Besides savoury sandwiches, Stack offers sweet alternatives as well. The idea of the Sleepy Nonna (S$9) was just too hard to resist. Comprising a ripened banana, Nutella, crushed Oreos and Swiss cheese, all comfortably stacked between two golden slices of French toast, we just knew we were in for one heck of a sinful (but satisfying) experience.

It’s literally everything you could ever want in a bite, provided things like weight-gain and health issues were not a concern—and that’s saying a lot. Was it good? Absolutely. Would we get it again? For the sake of our health, probably not.

Situated along Haji Lane, Moosh Softserve is the latest addition to the hipster street. Primarily serving soft serve (for takeaways only), this Muslim-owned soft serve shop currently has six flavours including classic flavours such as Strawberry and Blueberry.

Despite all the different elements added, the soft serve was extremely silky and creamy without being too sweet.

The Nutella Brownies Cheesecake Soft Serve (Regular: S$4.50 / Large: S$6.90) comes with a generous swirl of Nutella soft serve, topped with rich chocolate sauce and chocolate malt, and sprinkled with brownie crumbs. This was simply chocolate heaven in a cup, what more could we ask for?

Moosh Softserve offers pretty interesting and unique flavours that are neither overly dense nor overwhelmingly sweet. Conveniently located at Haji Lane, this is definitely a place to check out during afternoon shopping trips for a quick sweet fix.

For those who are not fans of this heavenly hazelnut spread (are there even any?), fret not for there are other tantalising options for you to sink your teeth into. Mixed Fruits Pavlova, Thai Milk Tea Cheesecake and Pandan Gula Melaka slices are just some to keep your eyes peeled for.

Santap is a new muslim-owned cafe in Little India by the good folks from The Black Hole Group—who is behind Working Title and The Mad Sailors.

Santap, which means to eat luxuriously in Malay, offers a menu of healthy eats from sandwiches to stellar rice bowls. All of which are plated so beautifully that it would be a crime not to snap a shot of it for the ‘gram’.

Nestled within the newly opened boutique hotel, The Daulat—just a 5-minute walk from Rochor MRT station—this Muslim-owned cafe exudes a charming ambience and a cosy vibe that is just perfect for lounging about in the afternoon.

With both an indoor and al fresco space that is cool and cosy, Santap is a great spot for lounging or dining at any time of the day. Where space is concerned, the indoor space features only one communal dining table and although beautifully decorated, may not be ideal for big groups.

The al fresco area, on the other hand, is considerably more spacious and the breeze coupled with the easy listening tunes make it a great spot to chill at.

Featuring ingredients such as avocado, black beans, pineapple, red and white daikon and of course, a generous serving of fresh prawns, The Shrimp Rice Bowl (S$15) is sure to intrigue health nuts everywhere. It also comes served with aromatic brown rice that is spiced with things like cardamom and cumin.

The prawns were cooked simply with a garlic-infused butter which added a nice umami touch and played off nicely with the prawn’s natural sweetness.

For a more protein-packed meal, you can also opt for the Beef Rice Bowl (S$15) that comes with a whole range of wholesome ingredients, such as a poached egg, cherry tomatoes, corn, red onions, brown rice and alfalfa just to name a few. But the main star is the tender strips of lean beef.

The beef had a mild hickory smoke flavour to it, which went surprisingly well with their housemade Tonkatsu sauce, and the various veggie elements provided many different tastes and textures to brighten the entire dish up.

All in all, this dish makes for a pretty substantial (and healthy) meal that will have you feeling full yet incredibly pleased with yourself.

Every lunch set comes with a complimentary cold brew tea, and boy oh boy is it the perfect thing to have on a scorching afternoon.

We were really impressed that the baristas here use better quality tea and actually take the time and effort to garnish the drink properly, especially for something that’s complimentary.

Rhombus Pizza SG is a new Muslim-owned pizza buffet restaurant that allows you to pick your own toppings, design the pizza of your dreams and bake it yourself. Create and eat to your heart’s content for 90 minutes.

Allow your creativity and appetite to take flight as you select from a wide variety of toppings from savoury sausages to sweet chocolate chips to create your ultimate pizza. The buffet costs S$15 for adults, S$12 for children between the ages of 7 and 12, and children under seven get to dine for free!

The shop space is rather small and despite only being able to seat a maximum of 10 diners at one time (yes, it is that small), it is still pretty cramped especially if you have to ferry to and fro from the condiments and toppings station. It is also good to note that reservations have to be made prior in order to get a seat here.

Like kids at a candy shop, we spent a great deal of time picking from the huge selection of toppings—with more than ten savoury toppings and seven sweet toppings to choose from. The usual toppings include ham, sausages, shrimp, pepperoni, capsicums, mushrooms, corn and a whole lot more.

The process is pretty straightforward. Slather on a thin layer of tomato sauce over the top of your pizza dough, add your ingredients and lastly, top it off with a generous handful of mozzarella cheese, after which, proceed to bake your masterpiece in the oven provided.

The centrepiece of every table is an adorable electric pizza oven. In order to cook your dolled up piece of dough, simply slide it into the slots on the side and leave it there to cook for 6-7 minutes and for the cheese to get bubbly and delicious.

No hearty lunch would be complete without a decadent and insanely rich dessert. Undecided on what we wanted to top our dessert pizza with, we went for everything—Nutella as the base, topped with chocolate chips, marshmallows, Oreo cookie crumbs, crushed corn flakes and rainbow sprinkles for good measure.

Overall, we had a decent time at Rhombus Pizza SG. Although the food itself was mediocre at best, the experience of crafting our own pizzas (and making a huge mess) with good company definitely makes up for it.

The pizza buffet at Rhombus Pizza is available at an introductory price of S$15 per adult from now until 31 August 2017. Please note that the usual price of the pizza buffet is S$18 per adult.

When it comes to having supper in Singapore, Simpang Bedok – a stretch of halal eateries that open till late – immediately comes to mind.

Among them, Spize Supper Club is one of the most famous muslim restaurants serving halal food. Besides Simpang Bedok, it also has another branch at River Valley that caters to the hungry late night club goers.

If you ever find yourself hungry in the middle of the night, Spize halal restaurant at Simpang Bedok is probably your best bet.

It has a very comprehensive menu. From Thai food like Pineapple rice ($9) and Tom Yam Seafood ($10); to Malay food like Mee Goreng ($5.5) and Nasi Ayam ($3.8); and Western food like burgers ($6.5) and steak ($14.9) – there is something for everyone to choose from.

We started with the Spize Burger ($7.5) – chargrilled beef patty with sunny side up, BBQ sauce and cheese. The Mee Goreng ($5.5) came wrapped in an egg omelette. Both dishes were just fine – I mean, how badly could anyone make a burger and fried noodles?

My friend was raving about Spize’s Chicken Wrap ($5.5), so we ordered one to share. I definitely wasn’t expecting it to be rock-my-socks-off-good.

What makes Spize Supper Club so popular? I think it is a combination of cheap food, late night hours, and the atmosphere of eating by the road side. It is one of those places that you come back again and again for late night supper.
