One of the most reliable restaurants in town when it comes to consistently good food and service, The Marmalade Pantry is, without a doubt, one of our favourite restaurants in Singapore. The same can be said for their annual Mid-Autumn Festival gift sets – we always look forward to this time of the year to be surprised!

This year, The Marmalade Pantry is reimagining traditions with an ensemble of baked mooncakes (made with a low sugar and no lard recipe), nestled in an all-new, special edition hand-woven Blush Pink Rattan Vanity Case or a sleek Scarlet Red Large Tote Bag.

Exclusively available in a variety of five gift sets – three in the Blush Pink Rattan Vanity Case and two premium gift sets in the stylish Scarlet Red Large Tote Bag, this year’s mooncakes bear contemporary geometric designs to complement the chic and contemporary design of its specially designed bags.

A petite vintage-style bag featuring a natural rattan hand-woven wicker design and a blush pink PVC leather cover, the new Blush Pink Rattan Vanity Case is perfect for carrying everyday essentials in style. Each unique in its own subtle way, the bag is elevated and finished with gold clasps and a top handle with a logo-embossed tag.

Pre-orders can be made from now at the ION, Downtown, and Bugis outlets, as well as online, for delivery and self-collection from 11 August to 10 September 2022, while stocks last (last day to order is on 7 September 2022).
A twist to a familiar baked mooncake, the brand new Traditional White Lotus Paste with Macadamia Nuts mooncake is a wholesome treat that highlights classic white lotus paste studded with buttery macadamia nuts. The other exciting flavour to make its debut this year is the new Hojicha Matcha with Raisin – complemented with morsels of sweet raisins and enveloped in a tea-infused baked skin, it features a luscious and harmonious blend of hojicha and matcha tea-infused lotus paste with earthy, roasted flavours.

For those who enjoy the familiarity of classic flavours, the Baked Charcoal with Black Sesame and Melon Seeds mooncake is The Marmalade Pantry favourite with its aromatic combination of black sesame paste laced with crunchy melon seeds for a medley of textures. The classic Double Yolk with White Lotus Paste mooncake that boasts two savoury golden yolks and velvety lotus paste enrobed in a golden brown baked mooncake skin always hits the spot with its balanced flavours.

The Marmalade Pantry has launched its classic goodies sets to welcome Chinese New Year, and it is definitely something to be excited about! The Lunar New Year festivities are all about getting together with our loved ones, and in the spirit of celebration, we express our love for our family, we chat, we laugh, and we feast to our heart’s content.

Chinese New Year is always filled with lots of good food, and gifting snacks to our loved ones is a joy on its own. Everybody loves CNY goodies, and we can snack all day at family gatherings, ain’t it?

This CNY, The Marmalade Pantry has prepared three seasonal gift sets—The Traditional Classics (S$60+), The Signature Collection (S$80+) and The Grand Treasures (S$138+). Pick up any of these three when you go house visiting, and the host is bound to love you.

Beat the snaking queues with The Marmalade Pantry’s first-ever beloved snack offering – The Traditional Petite Chicken Bak Kwa. Packaged in a beautiful metallic pink box, these slices of goodness are made with chicken thigh meat, prepared using a traditional charcoal-smoking process and barbequed over woodfire to impart a savoury, smoky flavour.

Order your CNY goodies online from https://delivery.themarmaladepantry.com.sg/en_SG

What is Chinese New Year without pineapple tarts?

The Marmalade Pantry’s hand-rolled Golden Pineapple Tarts (S$24+) feature slow-cooked jammy Thai pineapple filling which is lightly spiced and aromatic with subtle hints of pandan and cinnamon, all encased within an addictive, buttery pastry.

Holding a perfect balance of flavours, each bite brings about a lingering sweetness; one that is rich enough to excite the palate yet light enough to keep the flavour from saturating.

Another popular CNY snack that The Marmalade Pantry is known for is the Sambal Shrimp Rolls (S$22+). These rolls break apart to reveal a fine, savoury stuffing of fried shrimps with a mix of aromatics such as dried chilli, shallots, garlic, and tamarind paste. The piquant shrimp paste is lovingly hand-rolled and deep-fried resulting in a mouth-watering, crunchy snack.

The Marmalade Pantry is introducing two new CNY goodies to the lineup this year—Traditional Petite Chicken Bak Kwa & Honey Mustard Roast Crackers.

The Traditional Petite Chicken Bak Kwa (S$30+) is produced with no added meat tenderiser, preservatives, artificial colouring, flavouring, or MSG and it is individually vacuum-packed for freshness and convenience.

Featuring succulent minced chicken thigh, the preparation begins with a fish sauce-based marinade recipe, followed by a time-honoured charcoal-smoking process to impart a smoky fragrance.

Made with soya bean, the Honey Mustard Roast Crackers ($20+) is deep-fried to golden brown perfection. The soy crisps are then generously coated with a tangy honey mustard seasoning and tossed with a fresh herbaceous garnish of rosemary and chives.

The Marmalade Pantry’s CNY goodies are nicely packaged in three specially curated gift sets that will suit everyone. The gift bags are decked in colours of white, teal and pastel pink, while the gift box comes in auspicious colours of red and white with contemporary illustrations of The Marmalade Pantry’s signature olive stalks.

ROASTED WHOLE TURKEY WITH FRESH HERBS

Begin the festivities with their spectacular Roasted Whole Turkey with Fresh Herbs (S$108+/4.5kg). Beautifully arranged in a huge platter, the breathtaking roast is first garnished with glaze and served with sides of charred lemons and chilli. The turkey is full of moist, tender meat that encases a stuffing of well-seasoned spices that only adds to its savouriness.

The Marmalade Pantry only dishes out roasts that are sure to leave your guests gobsmacked, and this turkey is the star of the show. Promising crisp skin seasoned with pepper, salt and citrus to bring out its natural flavours, the turkey is perfumed and fragrant from the spices.

It is then roasted to give it smokiness and a charred taste. The sharp citrusy tanginess on the skin also cut through the umami-packed meat, giving it a refreshing change of flavour.

MAPLE AND CLOVE GLAZED GAMMON HAM

A mandatory staple at every Christmas dinner is, of course, ham. Their Maple and Clove Glazed Gammon Ham (S$108+/3.3kg) will definitely take your party up a notch with its marvellous, slightly charred crust and velvety sheen. Stubbed with cloves, the ham is heavily perfumed with hints of earthy spices.

Prior to serving, it is glazed and baked, allowing the buttery sweetness from the maple glaze to permeate through the meat. Slice through its tough exterior, and the meat reveals a soft, succulent, chewy middle.

SLOW-ROASTED WAGYU BEEF

When we think of Christmas, we imagine a slew of delectable roasts alongside turkey that leaves us craving for more. Featuring yet another slab of indulgent meat that impressed us: the Slow-Roasted Wagyu Beef (S$98+/1kg).

Roasted to a perfect medium doneness, the aromatic beef is served with a crisp, smoky crust before it is sprinkled with seasoning, rosemary and thyme. Completely stealing our hearts was its beautifully marbled meat; it was fork tender and boasted both sweetness and umami nuances.

Slowly savour the meat, and you get to taste that chewy, luxurious mouthfeel that bursts apart with flavour.

LAMB RACK WITH PROVENCALE CRUST

Though not as much a majestic grandeur as the turkey or ham, another meat platter that will surely spice up your celebration is their Lamb Rack with Provencale Crust (S$75+/0.6kg). Arriving in a green, herbaceous crust, this dish looks fitting for the Christmas season.

Generously sprinkled and seasoned with herbs such as rosemary, the lamb is covered with a slightly salty exterior that is packed full of spices. When we pulled the meat apart, it tore from the bone easily, giving way to a medium-done middle. The best thing about it was that it was fragrant and juicy and had no gamey trace at all.

TRADITIONAL STUFFING

Nothing says Christmas more than stuffing; alongside their wealth of side accompaniments and salads, we have the Traditional Stuffing (S$20+). This is definitely one of the highlights we can look forward to savouring during the festive season. What we liked about their stuffing was that it consisted of a myriad of various simple yet flavoursome ingredients.

Comprising a unique blend of ingredients such as carrots and nuggets of bread, the dish had a soft, creamy mouthfeel that broke apart easily, allowing us to relish in its savouriness. It also had a moist texture that melted in our mouths.

CAULIFLOWER & BULGUR SALAD

Accompanying the festive roasts is their Cauliflower & Bulger Salad (S$20+). Served atop a fluffy bed of bulgur wheat, this is one of their best-selling vegetarian options included in their lineup again this year. An unpretentious dish, this salad comprises of a medley of contrasting soft and crunchy textures.

The cauliflowers are roasted and tossed together with the bulgur wheat, giving the salad a slight smoky char that elevated the flavour of this simple dish. This is the salad to go for if you are looking to have something light on the palate yet has that extra oomph of flavour.

ROASTED WINTER VEGETABLES

Where there are meats, there will be vegetables to give a refreshing palate change as well. Do not forget their Roasted Winter Vegetables (S$20+), a perennial vegetarian favourite that never fails to leave their guests hankering for more.

A colourful mixture of squash, sweet potato and pumpkin, this is a well-balanced dish consisting of both sweet and savoury notes. The chefs have added in their own smoky touch by giving the vegetables a slight char, adding to its savouriness and contrasting the veggie’s natural sweetness.

GARLIC MASH

Nothing completes the meaty affair better than some traditional mash. Introducing their Garlic Mash (S$20+) – it may look unassuming but we guarantee that the mash here is beyond awesome.

Simmered with garlic and loaded with butter, the mash is served with a mouthwatering aroma. Mashed to consistency, it had a thick and creamy texture that melted in our mouths. It was also chock full of savoury, herbaceous flavour.

LOG CAKES

You know there will always be room for their well-loved desserts, as what better way to end the joyous occasion than to indulge in some holiday sweet treats? In line with their festive takeaway spread, The Marmalade Pantry has doled out log cakes to celebrate the yuletide season: Black Forest Log Cake and Four-Layer Chocolate Log Cake!

A classic favourite, this cake is coated with thick cream, luxurious chocolate and topped with chocolate shavings and blueberries. Nothing too fancy, but will definitely remind you of home.

The dessert lovers will also be a fan of their Four-Layer Chocolate Log Cake, as it is carefully composed of four different fluffy layers that simply melts into gooey goodness in your mouth. Crafted with four distinct flavours, this cake is bound to present you with a medley of contrasting, decadent goodness.

“Where can I have a meal for under $20 in town?” The answer: The Marmalade Pantry, but for a limited time only. Enjoy 1-for-1 on main courses (complimentary meal will be the lower value of the main course) during dinner every Monday from 6pm – 10pm.

A main course at Marmalade Pantry is around $20 to $28 (excluding the steak & eggs at $38). With the promotion, you pay less than $20 for each main course. For instance, the signature crabmeat linguine is $24, but you only pay $12++ after discount.

I think it’s a fantastic deal and everyone should drop by Marmalade Pantry at Ion Orchard before they end the 1-for-1 promotion. If you are planning to go next Monday, read my previous review on The Marmalade Pantry for more recommendations.

Words by Jolene Koh of Cupcake Weekend, Photos by ladyironchef

The first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Marmalade Pantry? Cupcakes, tea & probably their famous crab meat linguine. While the outlet at Ion Orchard is well known for housing tai-tais for their afternoon high-tea and weekend brunch, the recently opened Marmalade Pantry at the Stables gives a country-side feel that is more casual whilst upholding a chic restaurant image.

Had the pleasure of dining with Brad at Marmalade Pantry’s second outlet that has now replaced what used to be Mimolette. It is conveniently located just beside Rider’s Cafe set in the heart of Fairways Drive where the former Turf Club used to be.

We started our meal with the highly recommended Mexican Chicken Salad ($22) which consisted of grilled chicken pieces tossed with avocado, spiced corn & salsa stacked between sheets of perfectly crisped tortilla and finished with a dollop of sour cream. It was fresh, tangy and delicious. The kind of dish I would order over and over again and not get sick of.

Following that came the mains.

Steak & Eggs ($38) was served on a warm skillet with smashed peas & two perfectly cooked sunny-side ups. While the steak was tender and juicy, I wasn’t thrilled that the sauce slightly over-powered and muted the natural flavour of the meat. Would have preferred if the gravy was served by the side instead.

Another main that was recommended was the Spaghetti Carbonara ($24) which is one of the better carbonaras I’ve tasted. Al dente noodles tossed in a delicious creamy sauce with crispy bacon bits topped with a poached egg. If you’re a fan of cream-based pastas you will definitely enjoy this dish.

Next up, we were served the Truffled Field Mushroom Risotto ($24) that unfortunately arrived at our table over-cooked. The chef however quickly offered to prepare a new one which we kindly rejected because we over-estimated our appetite. Will definitely give that another try the next time I return.

Lastly we had the Pan Roasted Red Snapper ($28) that was lightly fried in a parsley herb crust and served with hearty home-made ratatouille, shaved fennel & rocket salad. A healthier and just-as-satisfying alternative should you be craving for Fish & Chips.

As they always say, no meal is complete without something sweet to end. In addition to their repertoire of signatures like their Sticky Date & Toffee Pudding and Banoffee Pie, are two new desserts that we sealed our meal with. Namely the Lemon Brulee Tart ($14) and the Granny Smith & Stem Ginger Pudding ($13).

The former is basically a classic lemon tart sprinkled with sugar which is then torched to a crispy caramelized top-crust that adds extra texture and a tinge of sweetness to the sour lemon curd.

The Granny Smith & Stem Ginger Pudding was light, semi-crumbly and paired well with the scoop of salted-caramel ice cream that it was served with. However, like how bread pudding would be incomplete without creme anglaise, I felt this dessert lacked a warm apple or toffee drizzle that would have tied it up perfectly.

Marmalade Pantry at the Stables is a great place for a good meal if you wish to escape the city for a relaxing, quiet night out. I look forward to coming back to try their brunch menu.

Oh, and we got first dibs that they have plans in building a tree-house behind their establishment. So especially for parents who are always on the lookout for kids-friendly restaurants, you know where your next dine-out spot should be.

“Which is your favourite cafe in Singapore?”

There are some places like Prive Bakery Cafe and PS Cafe that I love for their ambience; other places like Oriole cafe and Epicurious for the affordability; and Artichoke, Spruce and Barracks for the food. But when it comes to a cafe that I go all the time, Marmalade Toast is definitely the place.

Marmalade Toast Cafe is a hidden gem in Orchard Road. It has been around for very long, but even up till now, I’m surprised that not many people know about them. Located at a corner of Ngee Ann City, the cafe is a simplified version of Marmalade Pantry restaurant. They have a pretty straightforward menu of salads, wraps, sandwiches and desserts – everything priced reasonably under $10.

The best thing about Marmalade Toast, aside from it being a hidden gem in Orchard Road, is that the prices are affordable. It serves the same desserts as Marmalade Pantry, but at a lower price.

I can’t remember exactly when they changed the interior, but the decor is now different. It has a yellow theme but it doesn’t matter since I don’t go there for the “ambience” anyway.

I’ve always maintained that Marmalade Pantry has one of the best cupcakes in Singapore. Among the cupcakes ($4.5) there, my favourite is definitely the lemon cupcake. It is that good. I also like the William pear chocolate cupcake and strawberry cupcake. Some of the flavors like nutella, peanut butter and red velvet are too dry for my liking.

For cakes, the chocolate truffle cake ($5.5) is good, but it is extremely dense, making it impossible to finish unless you share it with someone. The carrot cake ($5.5) is also one of the better ones that I’ve had before. The blueberry cheesecake ($5.5), as well as the pear tart, are some of the items that I always order. If you are a fan of lemon desserts, you must try the lemon meringue sponge cake and lemon tart.

Marmalade Toast is my favourite cafe in Orchard road. It is the place that I go when I want a quiet space for a quick bite. Life is good when you enjoy a cup of tea, read a book and have desserts for a leisure afternoon high tea.

Here’s the direction if you are wondering where it is: from level two of Takashimaya department store, walk towards the kinokuniya direction and look out for a “secret” pathway between Christiam Louboutin and Marc Jacobs. Have fun!

Chihuly Lounge has several things going for it. I like that the lounge has a high ceiling – allowing light to flood the lounge – and it feels spacious and comfortable. I like that the lounge has good chill-out music, it is a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by. I like that the staff are attentive, knowledgeable and friendly.

Before I go into my raves for desserts, I want you to know that Marmalade Pantry at Ion Orchard serves pretty good desserts. Hint hint, just the perfect place to indulge for afternoon tea in Singapore – if you still don’t get what I mean.

Desserts are pleasure guaranteed, with no further explanations needed or what so ever. We can have desserts for breakfast, like pancakes with ice cream & maple syrup, If not desserts for lunch, dinner or supper, or all three combined. But you know what I really like? I think desserts, are meant for afternoon high tea.

Having come up with a list of Dessert Places in Singapore, I’m sure you can tell that I have a soft spot for sweet stuff. Marmalade Pantry has shifted from Palais Renaissance to their current location, and they are an extremely popular place for high tea in Singapore, alongside TWG Tea Salon at Ion Orchard.

I’m a very visual guy, and the appearance of Marmalade Pantry’s Sea Salt Caramel Cheesecake ($7.80) didn’t exactly help to give me confidence. But oh boy, we were so wrong. The cheesecake was good, it was so, so good! Marmalade Pantry’s rendition was softly sweet, with a hint of the sea salt caramel induced within the eerily light cheese-cake.

The Old Fashioned Chocolate Fudge Cake ($7.80) on the other hand, was disappointing with the less-than-moist texture. Despite the chocolate-y flavor, the cake was dry and nothing could be done to save it. Maybe a scoop of melty vanilla ice cream would do the trick. Maybe. But we will never know.

I’d definitely order the Chocolate Truffle cake, but it seems that they have pull it off the menu and it is now only available at Toast Cafe Takashimaya.

If you are craving for something chocolate-y, I’d suggest to go for the Nutella Cupcake ($4.20). With a smooth, creamy layer of hazelnut spread on top of the chocolate cake, this is your gateway to heaven. Marmalade Pantry has some of the best cupcakes in Singapore, and the Limonta ($4.20) is the one reason I go back to Marmalade Pantry over and over again.

Marmalade Pantry also has an Afternoon High Tea set at $20 each which is available from 3pm to 5pm daily with a minimum of 2 sets per order. The afternoon tea indulgence includes Gryphon tea, a selection of egg and cress, beef & horseradish and green land shrimp finger sandwiches, buttermilk scones, and a cupcake.

Desserts will save the world.
