KAI GARDEN

Cantonese cuisine is the ultimate comfort food because it will always remind us of homecooked goodness. At Kai Garden, expect favourites such as Pan-Fried Pork Dumpling “Siew Mai” (S$8.80), Crackling Pork Belly (S$14.80) and Wok-Fried XO Carrot Cake (S$9.80).

Oh yes, the Crackling Pork Belly was so sinfully yummy. The skin was in a gorgeous shade of brown, crispy and fragrant; the meat was succulent and juicy.

The posh Chinese restaurant resembles an emperor’s courtyard and is an elegant space for family dinners, company luncheons and birthday celebrations for your older folks.

KITH CAFE

A long-time favourite in Singapore’s cafe scene, Kith Cafe is recognised for their hearty Australian eats and distinctive blend of signature coffees. Nestled away on the second level of Marina Square, Kith Cafe radiates a lovely quaint charm.

The Poached Eggs and Avocado (S$16) is a light breakfast item to love; otherwise, there is the Kung Pao Pizza (S$12) which is a fusion pizza that combines Italian and Chinese flavourfully.

We also particularly enjoyed the rich and flavourful Kith Black Curry (S$19), a dish that features contrasting flavours of spices.

As always, your meal will not be complete without Kith Cafe’s fragrant specialty Black Coffee (S$4.50). The underlying tones of dark fruits and cocoa in the coffee is best enjoyed with some Sea Salt Chocolate Cookies (S$4 for a pack of seven and S$2.80 for a pack of three).

MEI HEONG YUEN DESSERT

Although cafes and western desserts are all the rage, traditional Chinese desserts will always have a permanent home in our hearts. A wave of nostalgia will hit you no matter what your dessert choice at Mei Heong Yuen Dessert is.

As Mei Heong Yuen Dessert is famous for their various pastes, we were delighted to tuck into the Sesame Paste (S$3.50) which was smooth and nutty, without too much sugar. The Red Bean Lotus (S$3) was another favourite.

Cold, refreshing desserts such as the Mango with Pomelo & Sago (S$5), Mango Strawberry Snow Ice (S$6.50) and Chendol Snow Ice (S$6.50) are crowd pleasers at Mei Heong Yuen Dessert too.

Mouth Restaurant has been known for serving dim sum since 1988.

And over the years, the culinary team has evolved with trends and creativity. Today, look forward to Steamed Squid Ink BBQ Pork Bun (S$5 for 3 pieces) and Deep Fried Banana Roll (S$3.90 for 2 pieces). Unconventional? Yes, they are.

Mouth Restaurant’s 6 Flavour Shrimp Dumpling With X.O. Sauce (S$9.80 for 6 pieces) comes in 6 different flavours—squid ink, spinach, sweet potato, pumpkin, carrot and original.

You can never go wrong with the Baked Cream Of Salted Egg Yolk Bun (S$5.80 for 3 pieces). When opened, flowy salted egg yolk sauce bursts out of the crispy crackly bun; what a splendid thing to watch!

That being said, we still enjoyed the rich and peppery Signature Pork Ribs Soup (Regular – S$7.50, Large – S$9.50). Other sides dishes worth mentioning are the Braised Pig Trotters (Regular – S$7.50, Large – S$9.50), Handmade Fried Prawn Roll (S$7.90) and Spinach With Top Shell Abalone Sauce (S$12).

Singaporeans are always on the lookout for the best buffet deals in hotels. But you can look elsewhere now because we have a great deal to share.

If you are an avid fan of Cantonese cuisine like we are, and you like the idea of a la carte buffet where you get to order as many dishes as you desire for a communal dining experience, then you should head to Dragon Bowl at Marina Square.

You will be completely spoilt for choice with so many options on their a la carte dinner buffet menu (S$42.80++/pax on weekdays and S$45.80++/pax on weekends)! From premium dishes such as Boston Lobsters and Chilli Crabs to a wide range of seafood and roast meats, here is what you can expect at Dragon Bowl.

LOBSTER VS BUDDHA JUMP OVER THE WALL

Begin your meal with the best on the menu—a Minced Garlic Boston Lobster or the Mini Buddha Jump Over The Wall.

The fresh lobster meat is paired with savoury soy sauce and topped off with crunchy garlic bits; classic Chinese way of eating the prized crustacean, and never goes out of style.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

If you prefer something more comforting, we recommend going for the soup instead. Buddha Jump Over The Wall is a classic Cantonese dish packed with luxurious ingredients such as abalone, fish maw and mushrooms—nourishing to say the least.

Premium items are limited to one serving per person.

SINGAPORE CHILLI CRAB VS WHITE PEPPER CRAB

Here comes the best part: you get a serving of crabs! Yay!

Choose between the iconic Singapore Chilli Crab or the spicy White Pepper Crab. We simply cannot decide which one we liked more because both were equally stellar and won our hearts.

The chefs at Dragon Bowl will prepare this dish according to the size of your dining group and it is limited to one per table, but be rest assured that there will definitely be a fair portion for every diner.

THE BEST DISH—WASABI MAYO PRAWN

The Wasabi Mayo Prawn was jaw-droppingly delicious and we are not even exaggerating. Expect crispy de-shelled prawns coated with a lovely blend of mild wasabi and creamy mayonnaise. We had three helpings of this, by the way. It was the best dish on the menu.

Other prawn dishes include Pumpkin Creamy Prawn and Poached Fresh Prawn.

FISH

Fish dishes at Dragon Bowl comes in two different unique cooking styles. The Deep Fried Soon Hock Fish is a crowd pleaser that comes with tender meat encased in crunchy, delicate fried fish skin.

Steamed Putin Fish in HK Style is a safe choice for everyone in the family. Steamed with soya sauce, the tender and moist fish meat is light and easy on the palate.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Emporium Shokuhin in Singapore consists of many sections and these include – a live seafood market, a beef dry-aging facility, a dedicated Japanese gourmet grocer and the 8 different dining concepts that range from a seafood wine bar to a Japanese bakery.

Produce here are flown in thrice weekly to ensure freshness. As Singaporeans become increasingly well-travelled and more knowledgeable about premium Japanese meats, produce and seafood, they will certainly appreciate everything this mega Emporium has to offer.

For all the foodies out there excited to know what they can try at the 8 F&B concepts, get really excited for a sushi bar that will be offering a dish called Giant Chirashi, which is an upsized take on the conventional portion. Another interesting concept is UMI + VINO, a seafood and wine pairing restaurant, where you get to enjoy them both in perfect harmony.

Also expect the most premium Wagyu beef, other premium seafood and interesting produce that you have never seen before here.

Words by Missim | Photography by ladyironchef

Specialising in Heng Hwa cuisine, Putien Restaurant has quickly expanded from its flagship restaurant at Kitchener road to a restaurant chain with 8 outlets in Singapore: Vivocity, Marina Square, Parkway Parade, Jurong Point, Tampines Mall, City Square Mall and nex.

Putien restaurant has recently launched a new Summer menu. The seasonal dishes are mostly light and refreshing ingredients to complement the warm and humid weather.

The first few dishes that came were little light starters to whet your appetite. The Organic Momotaro Tomato ($4.90) from their Summer Menu came in nice thick juicy slices. There was powdered sugar topping over it which I like! Anything that is coated with sugar is wonderful.

The Iced Bitter Gourd ($5.90), on the other hand, was not much to my liking. Don’t get me wrong. I love bitter gourds in fish slice bee hoons, fried with eggs and what not. But not serving it with a chock-full of ice and eating it cold. It reminded me of carbonated water. I can never get used to the weird mix of coldness and the slight bitterness. Even the honey (which you are supposed to dip the bitter gourd into) did not help at all.

Pretty though.

My second favourite meal from the dinner! Snails, I absolutely loved sucking on the tiny little shells. I was even sucking on them after dessert was cleared! My only complaint for the Sauteed Sea Snails with Hua Diao Wine ($13.90) will be that the snails are awfully tiny. They look much bigger on the menu.

A few more dishes came and went but they did not leave a huge impression on me. And finally, the very famous Putien Lor Mee ($7.9/$15.9/$23.9). The first thing that strikes you is the very light coloured gravy. There was also an interesting mix of ingredients like prawns and clams. I took a tentative spoonful of mian and gravy. Man, it was yummy as hell. How yummy? I’m not too sure. I just remember clearing up my bowl and going for seconds and more and more till every last drop of gravy was slurped up completely.

Putien Restaurant serves reasonably good food at reasonable prices. With 8 branches in Singapore, it is a very convenient place for families to drop by for dinner.
