Nestled in between the shophouses on Joo Chiat Road is Sinpopo Brand, one of our favourite cafes with a strong touch of nostalgia. The cafe boasts a retro rustic ambience – think wooden tables, checkered floor tiles, antique light bulbs, Bruce Lee posters and songs from the 60′s.
Nothing spells comfort to a Singaporean more than Nasi Lemak and Hor Fun – which is exactly what Sinpopo Brand is known for. However, what distinguishes Sinpopo Brand from the usual hawker centre food besides the vintage interiors of the cafe, is how they deliver local food that comes with a twist.
On our previous visit, we shared several of our favourite bites from Sinpopo Brand. Since then, the concept cafe has introduced new additions. There is a Salted Vegetable Duck Soup that totally reminded us of grandma’s cooking, a Muah Chee Salad and an extremely photogenic Gula Melaka Chendol Parfait!
Readers of Ladyironchef can enjoy any dessert for just S$5 with any 2 main dishes or Nasi Lemak for Two ordered.

Scoop Therapy is a dessert-only spinoff of Group Therapy, serving mainly ice cream and ice cream-centric desserts. The small space sits in the East of Singapore, and you might already have seen photos of their Instagram-worthy desserts on your social media feeds.
We were pretty tempted by pictures of their sultry S’mores and Ice Cream Bomb floating around social media, so we made a trip down to find out what the hype is all about.
So, was the trip worth it?
All hail the cat without mouth; Hello Kitty Orchid Garden, Singapore’s first Hello Kitty Cafe is opening at Changi Airport Terminal 3 in May 2016!
For so long now, we have been pinning for a Hello Kitty cafe in Singapore, and though some may argue that it is but a gimmick, many of us are suckers for thematic cafes like that. Just take a look at the various Hello Kitty cafes in Asia, and how “atmospheric” in their own ways they are. Surely this is something for fans to be excited about?
What makes it even better is that the café will be open for 24 hours daily. Hello Kitty cakes for supper, anyone?
Cafes and dessert shops are always offering the ubiquitous fare – copying one another, following the crowd and what not – so how do you stand out?
How’s it if you can D.I.Y your own coffee and bread buns (like Shibuya toasts) with wooden blocks equipped with RFID tags? Blocs Inc. is one cafe to look out for, and they are making waves in the industry by introducing this unique concept, unlike any that we have seen here in Singapore.
It is no secret that Fresh Fruits Lab (FFL) is our go-to cafe in the East of Singapore, and since its opening, we have been loyally patronising the cafe for its ever-satisfying menu.
Of course, we love that the place is nicely done up too. If you haven’t been, what you are missing out on is a colourful space that is decorated to look like the coolest laboratory you will ever see.
As for the food, they will surprise you in ways you’d never imagine – like burgers with a fruit salad, meats and seafood with fruit innuendos, and cold pressed fruit juices in a plethora of combinations. Well, fresh fruits lab, right? Every component is covered.
Readers of Ladyironchef will receive 50% off the second main course during dinner on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from now until 28 Feb 2016 when you flash this post or quote “ladyironchef”. Reservations are required to redeem this promotion (one redemption per table).
Fresh Fruits Lab has recently introduced a new menu and of course we had to be among the firsts to try! Here are the highlights from Fresh Fruits Lab’s new menu.
Coffee-lovers would be no stranger to this name – Dutch Colony Coffee Co. This specialised coffee house has two outlets in Singapore – at Pasarbella and Frankel Avenue.
Since its opening, we’ve visited the Frankel Avenue outlet a few times and definitely loving it! The interior is lovely and casual, perfect to relax over some coffee while catching up on a latest book, and to simply stay away from the world.
Dutch Colony Coffee Co. at Frankel Avenue is surely one great coffee haunt in the East of Singapore.
Tucked in the Katong neighbourhood at the East Side of Singapore, Sinpopo Brand is one of our favourite places to visit for a casual and comforting meal of local delights. If you do not prefer to squeeze with the massive crowds in Central Singapore this festive season, a great alternative is to dine here.
This Christmas, Sinpopo Brand will be offering a Gula Melaka Log Cake (S$38). Besides the affordable price tag and vintage vibes, here is what we love about it!
Our favourite cafe in the East – Fresh Fruits Lab – is now extending their hours to welcome all supper-goers!
We cannot be happier to know, because this simply means pigging out does not stop anytime soon with the many supper options put in place for us. On Fridays and Saturdays, and the eve of Public Holidays, Fresh Fruits Lab will open till 2am, and you can expect a supper menu that is nothing short of creative.
We are telling you that the late night dining menu is gonna make sinning worth the while. And that includes, behold, Unicorn Donuts! YOU HAVE TO TRY THEM, JUST BECAUSE. Fresh Fruits Lab is only serving only 40 #UnicornDonuts on Fridays, Saturdays, and the eve of Public Holidays from 10pm to 2am. Best supper food ever!
