I’m sceptical about Hong Kong cafes in Singapore. A bowl of instant noodles, with sunny side-up and luncheon meat for $6-8? Or how about the so-called “authentic dim sum” which was supposed to be Hong Kong’s speciality. Even though I didn’t go to Hong Kong before, much less tried the authentic Hong Kong cuisine, but the rumours about the quality of the food at such cafes couldn’t be that far-fetch. There are many unfortunate people around the world, who need our help. Those that were born to this world with disabilities, those that were abandoned by their parents from young, those that were imprint with diseases the moment they enter this world. With the recent fiascos in our local charity scene, namely the NKF, and Ren Ci saga, I believe Singaporeans faith in the establishments are shaken, and donations have greatly reduced.
But we should not abandon those who need our help, just because of a few black sheep. This children’s day, 1 Oct 2008, needy children in Cambodia born with cleft facial deformities will have reasons to smile. In celebration of Hock Lam Beef’s 97th Anniversary, the renowned eatery at Far East Square, well known for its traditional beef broth will be partnering Operation Smile Singapore to donate all proceeds of the day and operating costs to provide life-changing treatments and surgeries for children in Cambodia born with facial deformities.

Despite never visiting Eski bar before, i had friends who went before, so i roughly figured out it’ll be cold, like the name implied anyway. The place was intended at Eski bar, since it’s the “coolest” bar around, which fitted in rightly with the theme of the event, Cool Rhino!

Another store which stood out at Lau Pa Sat for its unique name, was Souper! Like the name implied, the food couldn’t be far off from soup, and it did slightly remind me of our Chinese steamed soup with rice. Well except for Souper they had baguette instead of rice to go along with the soup.
