Popular French bakery, The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie is opening a new cafe in Tanjong Katong to serve the residents in the East of Singapore.

Known for its rich cultural heritage, diverse community, and a thriving food scene with popular food spots including Supernova, Little Rogue Coffee, Punggol Nasi Lemak, Tanjong Katong is a charming neighborhood on the eastern side of Singapore.

The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie is the latest addition to the enclave and it is located at 350 Tanjong Katong Road, along the same stretch as Little Rogue Coffee. It will be soft opening to the public on 22 Jul 2023 at 11am.

Established at 16 Hamilton Road in May 2022, The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie just celebrated her first anniversary not long ago.

Unlike their original location which is just a takeaway space, the new outlet in Tanjong Katong will be a full-fledged cafe with a capacity of 40 pax and it will be offering hot dishes, drinks, pastries and desserts.

Specialising in viennoiserie—the ‘bridge’ between pâtisserie and French bread—The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie dishes out amazing bakes fresh from the oven every day.

The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie’s Classic French Croissant is excellent. It is light and airy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Definitely one of the best croissants we’ve had in Singapore. We also love their Almond Croissant and Kouign-amann.

The Lunar, a crescent-shaped croissant, is The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie’s iconic pastry and a must-try when you are here. Filled with Masarpone mousse and chocolate ganache made of Valrhona Manjari Dark 64% Cocoa, The Lunar tastes as good as it looks.

The little ones will definitely love the Bunny Madeline (S$5) which comes in the form of a cute bunny.

Salt bread is all the rage in Japan and South Korea right now and we are thrilled to see it here. Topped with truffle salt, the Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie’s rendition is as soft as it should be, and it comes with a generous helping of truffle paste and butter.

On to the hot dishes that you can find at The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie. The Croissant with Turkey Ham and Scrambled Eggs (S$16.80) was disappointing as the scrambled eggs were overcooked, but we would definitely recommend the Croque Madame (S$13.80) which came with a cube pastry as the base for this dish.

The hot dishes include a regular hot drink.

An exclusive item to the new outlet, the Croissant Ice Cream is definitely one for the gram and perfect for the hot weather.

If you love cinnamon buns, you have to get your hands on these beauties.

Located along Tanjong Katong Road, Burp Kitchen is a gastro bar that prides itself on serving honest and hearty plates of food. Don’t let the sweeping volumes of rare whisky bottles behind the wooden bar distract you from their excellent grub because when it comes to their food, these folks are not ones to fool around.

Their fusion-forward menu comprises anything from Mexican-style tacos, tender pieces of perfectly marinated buffalo-style chicken wings to some pretty interesting burger creations inspired by the flavours of Southeast Asia. And that’s not all, every item on their menu is nett priced!

And in line with the exclusive launch of their new Prawn Paste Chicken Burger, they will be extending to our loyal readers an offer that’s simply irresistible. Quote ‘ladyironchef’ upon making your order to get 1 FREE main (tacos, pasta or burgers) with every S$50 spent from now until 30 November 2018. If you spend S$100 in a single bill, you will get 2 free mains.

Round up your best buddies and head down to Burp Kitchen today because, with good company, excellent food and a few tipples to get you in the mood, you’ll be doing way more than just burping out loud.

CHICKEN WINGS

Up for something that guarantees a fiery kick? Try their Spicy Buffalo Wings (S$12) that is a delicate balance of savoury and spicy all in one.

Deep-fried and tossed in their house-perfected buffalo-style chilli sauce, this dish boasts a heady, spice-laden aroma with subtle smoky elements to it. Upon your first bite, you get an explosion of flavour coupled with a nice crunch, but following that comes an intense heat that will have you leaning towards an ice-cold beverage in mere seconds.

Another good alternative to consider—should you wish to spare your tongue—is the Burp Kitchen Wings (S$9). Sweet, savoury and mildly citrusy, these tasty bad boys proved to be incredibly easy to knock back. The hard part is trying to stop.

PRAWN PASTE POPCORN CHICKEN

The Prawn Paste Popcorn Chicken (S$9) is a great snack to have to accompany an ice-cold beer. Tender chicken thighs are diced into bite-sized pieces before being marinated in prawn paste and subsequently deep-fried.

These nuggets of joy are extremely crunchy and flavourful and the citrusy mayo that is served alongside it just makes for the perfect pairing.

LET’S ‘TACO BOUT’ TACOS

You’d be hard-pressed finding a single dining establishment in Singapore serving read-deal, tasty tacos that aren’t Mexican by nature, but here at Burp Kitchen, we were thoroughly impressed.

An interesting and pretty uncommon taco offering is the Beef Bulgogi (S$12) that features a generous portion of slivered marinated beef and diced kimchi over top. Sweet, subtly spicy and brimming with umami, this innovative fusion dish is one worth trying.

If you would rather opt for seafood, then their Grilled Shrimp (S$12) tacos make for a decent alternative. The prawns are tender with a delicious crunch and are well marinated in a spice mix with cumin being a predominant factor.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The intense burst of flavours will hit you the second you consume it and you will keep going for more! Bar Bar Black Sheep has a range of naan flavours from Garlic to even Cheese, so you can have a mix of different naan to dip into this wonderful curry.

#3 CRISPY BUFFALO WINGS

From the Italian/Western side, a must try starter or bar grub is none other than the classic Crispy Buffalo Wings (S$9). Besides just Buffalo Wings, Bar Bar Black Sheep also offers other selections such as Moroccan Wings and Chilli Lime Wings (both S$9 each).

From the classic Margherita, to Hawaiian, and local favourites such as Rendang Spicy Minced Beef Pizza, you can find a selection of 12 inch pizzas (S$14 to S$18) on the menu.

#4 FISH TIKKA

Of all of their grilled seafood and meats, we were pleasantly surprised by the Fish Tikka. Marinated with yogurt and spices and grilled, the fish inside remained tender and did not dry out.

However, the outer layer caught out attention with the crisp texture and the spirited burst of flavours from the spices used. A mint onion dip will be served on the side and we love how the sauce added more aggressive flavouring to the fish, which makes it a perfect pairing to white rice.

#5 GREEN CURRY

Thai curries can be a stark contrast from others such as local curries and Indian curries. What most people love about the Thai Green Curry (S$11.90) at Bar Bar Black Sheep is the aromatic smell of coconut milk, mixed in with spices and seasonings such as green chilli and fish sauce.

Choose between Chicken, Beef or Pork with your curry and have it drizzled all over a plate of rice for ultimate satisfaction.

x

#6 MANGO STICKY RICE

As the most popular Thai dessert Singaporeans love, we were glad to find out that the mango served at Bar Bar Black Sheep is deliciously sweet. Portioned nicely with the sticky rice, skip the hassle of messily portioning out the mango and rice yourself.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The Mango Sticky Rice (S$6.90) is a good choice to end off your meal on a sweet note. If you prefer puddings, the Mango Pudding with Nata De Coco (S$4.90) is the one for you!

#7 PHAD THAI

It is not easy to find a good plate of Phad Thai in Singapore but we thank our lucky stars that the Phad Thai (S$12.90) at Bar Bar Black Sheep is extremely delectable.

Choose between Chicken, Beef, Pork or Seafood (+S$1 for seafood) and taste the delicious wok hei of the noodles. The added lime offers a nice hint of zest, adding on to the multitude of flavours of this dish.

#8 STRIPLOIN STEAK

If you are up for a hearty meal of meats, look no further than the Western side’s selection of grilled meats. The Striploin Steak (S$19) can be cooked to your desired doneness and the steak itself is slathered in delicious black pepper sauce.

Each order comes with a side of mesclun salad and fries. If you prefer other cuts of beef, Bar Bar Black Sheep also has a Rib Eye Steak (S$19) that comes with the same sauces and sides!

#9 TANDOORI CHICKEN

It was hard to find fault with the Tandoori Chicken (S$22, whole) at Bar Bar Black Sheep as we were greeted with throng of mouth-watering flavours that left us wanting more. The tandoori grilled meats at Bar Bar Black Sheep is not surprisingly, one of the best-selling items there.

For a hearty meal, go right for the Tandoori Platter (S$20) which consists of prawn, fish and chicken tikka with either chicken or mutton kebab. All of these meats and seafood will go perfectly with a bowl of curry and white rice or naan.

#10 THAI SAUCE CHICKEN RICE

The chicken is topped off with a tangy sweet and sour Thai sauce that adds a nice heat and flavour to the chicken.

The Thai Sauce Chicken Rice (S$14.90) is just one of the many other rice options you can pick from from the Thai food section. Other selections include Pattaya Fried Rice (S$12.90) and Olive Rice (S$13.90).

I’ve always loved cupcakes and I am really happy to see the cupcake trend slowly picking up in Singapore. Plenty of cupcake bakeries have sprung up in the past year and it is really exciting for a dessert lover like me.

One of the new places that serve cupcakes is Cupcakes with Love – a full fledged cupcake cafe at Tanjong Katong. A nice cafe which sells nothing but cupcakes. How cool is that?

Cupcakes with Love is located at 348 Tanjong Katong road (closer to Mountbatten road) which is further away from the main stretch of eateries like Punggol Nasi Lemak, Smiths Fish and Chips and With a Pinch of Salt Cafe.

They currently have eight cupcake flavours, so it is still an ongoing process to test out recipes for the final piece of the jigsaw puzzle (they intend to have nine flavours every day).

It is important to note that the cupcakes from Cupcakes with Love have considerately less frosting than the usual ones. They are quite different and I’m guessing that it will probably appeal more to people who do not fancy thick frostings.

A cupcake goes for $3.8, and it comes with really nice boxes for half a dozen ($22) or a dozen ($44) orders. Some of the flavours include cranberry, strawberry, blueberry, chocolate, matcha and their signature chocolate rum “adult cupcake”.

We were too full after dinner so we only tried three of the flavours: matcha, chocolate rum and red velvet. Yes, red velvet. I bet some of you are already rubbing your hands in anticipation.

I never understood the fascination with red velvet cupcake, though. It’s simply an ordinary cupcake with a few tablespoons of cocoa powder and red food colouring. But if you are a big fan of red velvet cupcake, you might want to check out the one at Cupcakes with Love which comes with cream cheese frosting and is one of the most popular cupcakes there.

The cupcakes are freshly baked every day, so do drop by Cupcakes with Love and give them your support.

Meanwhile, I’m on a quest to try several new cupcake bakeries. I will be blogging a post on the best cupcakes in Singapore soon! Leave me a comment if you have any recommendations for good cupcakes.

Cupcakes will never go out of fashion.

Nasi Lemak is definitely one of the must-try hawker food in Singapore.

Nasi Lemak is definitely one of the must-try hawker food in Singapore. Like what I’ve mentioned previously, there are a few nasi lemak stalls in Singapore that have platinum status (and perpetually long queues): the famous Changi Village Nasi Lemak, the two rivaling Adam road Nasi Lemak stalls, Fong Seng Nasi Lemak, Chong Pang Nasi Lemak, the popular Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak, and of course Punngol Nasi Lemak.

All of us know that Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. While I usually don’t have a heavy meal in the morning, but on days when I feel like indulging, a plate of good nasi lemak can last me all the way till tea time.

When it comes to Nasi Lemak, it is all about the chicken wings, coconut rice, and chilli. While this may not be the healthiest plate of food, it is definitely one of the tastiest. Grab the chicken wing by the tip, and eat it together with the mixture of the fragrant coconut rice and fiery hot sambal chilli – the combination of coconut, spices, and greasy fried food is surely one of life’s precious moment.

It’s true when they say that the East of Singapore is a foodie paradise. Where else in Singapore can you see a whole stretch of restaurants and eateries? Starting from Tanjong Katong to East Coast road, and Siglap, the whole East Coast area has food and more food.

Punggol Nasi Lemak at Tanjong Katong outlet is located directly opposite With A Pinch of Salt Cafe, and there was a short queue forming when we were there at 5.30pm.

Punggol Nasi Lemak is good but not great. I don’t think it’s the best Nasi Lemak in Singapore, but I won’t mind having it if I’m in the area and there’s no long queue. It’s a ideal late night supper place in Singapore for the night-owls, and I must say, the idea of having nasi lemak in the middle of the night is very appealing.

What do you usually eat for supper?
