Häagen-Dazs prides itself on only sourcing the best ingredients from around the world to concoct their various ice cream varieties.

Häagen-Dazs’s newest store is located at Waterway Point #01-72/73, near the Village Square.

It has closed two outlets in Singapore this year—its iconic location at Holland Village which has been around since the 1990s, as well as the outlet at ION Orchard.

There are currently six Häagen-Dazs outlets in Singapore at Westgate, Hilton Walkway, Plaza Singapura, Funan, SOTA and Waterway Point.

Punggol is a massive place but do not be intimidated! We suggest taking the park connector to have a stroll or jog, as you admire the flora and fauna while taking in fresh air. We love how the estate is progressive, while some parts of the land are still relatively untouched by modernisation.

Ever since Guschlbauer first opened in 1919, the Austrian brand has dedicated itself to the art of making delicious, high-quality pastries made using ingredients carefully sourced from all over the world. The result? Supreme tasting bakes that never fail to delight.

The traditional bakery set sail in Austria, but soon splashed all across Europe, Canada, Hong Kong, Korea and made waves wherever it went.

Their signature cheese buns are handmade with cream cheese that they source from Australia and New Zealand and the process of actually baking a batch takes hours to complete in full.

They are sliced twice in the middle and stuffed with oozing melted cream cheese and lastly, dipped in sweet milk powder for an added richness.

CHEESE BUN ORIGINAL

Core flavours for their first outlet in Waterway Point include original, matcha, chocolate and tiramisu.

The Cheese Bun Original (S$5.80) had us hooked the moment its hot, bready aroma tickled our noses. Essentially a supersized dinner roll, this bun comes stuffed with a runny cheesecake-like mixture and when it can no longer be stuffed, it is finished with a coat of milk powder.

CHEESE BUN CHOCOLATE

They also have a chocolate variation that chocolate lovers will surely adore.

Adding a little extra flavour and colour to the dough as well as the cream cheese (in the form of cocoa), the Cheese Bun Chocolate (S$5.80) carries a subtle bittersweet note that is rounded out nicely by the sweet-salty cream cheese.

CHEESE BUN TIRAMISU

The Cheese Bun Tiramisu (S$5.80) kicks it up a notch with a slightly bittersweet flavour of coffee that complements the decadent cheese. The satisfaction you get from this option may not measure up fully to the classic Italian dessert, but it sure comes close.

KISSLING

A cross between a croissant and a doughnut, the Kissling (S$8.80) is a flaky and buttery confectionery that, although may not have cheese spilling out of it, is still a pretty awesome treat worth trying.

TOAST

Fancy bakes aside, you can also feel free to pick up a loaf or two of their house-baked toast loaves. Flavours include Original (S$3.50), Cheese (S$4.80) and Whole Wheat (S$5.60).

BurgerUP is a homegrown fast food burger joint that has recently opened its second outlet in Singapore at Waterway Point in Punggol. The concept is simple – to bring gourmet-style burgers in a quick and fuss-free style.

However, what sets it apart from your typical fast food chain is the quality of ingredients used to elevate every burger. You can D.I.Y your own burger, and everything is done and ordered from a touch-screen menu located at the front of the shop. Worry not about queues as there are at least 5 of these menus available.

We saw a big range of burgers and even rice dishes (yes, we are not kidding!) here, with sides such as fries, nuggets and wings. BurgerUP sure is a great new place to check out.

We headed down two days in a row to have this burger simply because we could not stop thinking about it after we had our first one. We picked the Surf & Turf Burger Meal (S$9.90) and added a fried egg (+S$0.70) and some sambal sauce (S$0.50).

The meal costed about S$11 and that was inclusive of a drink and a side of fries.

The burger had a minced chicken patty and a fried fish patty, making the meal extremely worthwhile. Also, customise your sauces for free – we loved ours with tartare sauce, mayonnaise and ketchup.

And you can even pick all the vegetables you want for your burger!

We were stuffed by the end of the meal. Other burgers you can try at BurgerUP include the classic beef burgers. By the way, the Breaded Mushrooms make a great side dish, and it comes with an nominal top-up.

It is official – residents of Punggol and Sengkang have a town of their own. Everything is there now with the opening of Waterway Point.

Many of us have been anticipating the opening of Waterway Point at Punggol; that huge mall in the heart of one of Singapore’s recent most popular neighbourhood is totally what all residents need and are excited about.

The mall will officially open by the second quarter of 2016, but as of now, approximately 75% of shops are already open.

The mall is split into two wings – East and West – with an open-air communal connecting area. The building overlooks the stunning Punggol Waterway where many use for cycling, jogging and casual strolls. Situated directly beside Punggol MRT station, Waterway Point is extremely convenient for anyone who’s taking the public transport.

SLEEK & MODERN INTERIOR

The first thing we noticed about the massive 542,493 square feet structure was the interior. The ceilings had sleek metallic and reflective surfaces that made the place glow.

The mall is split into two wings – the East Wing and the West Wing. There are no specific classifications for these two wings and you can expect a good mixture of food, shopping and various retail stores everywhere in Waterway Point.

BREATHTAKING VIEW OF THE WATERWAY

Walk out of Waterway Point, all the way towards the back of the building (if you are coming in from the MRT entrance) and you will be greeted with fresh air and this incredible view.

Lovely spot to kick back and relax because the atmosphere is so comforting. You can even take a stroll around the area as an after-meal walk-off with your dining partner.

The mall is a mixture of open-air and enclosed areas, and we actually like this concept a lot more. You get your comfortable air-conditioned spaces, while being out in the open also means that you get amazing fresh air.

CRAZY SHOPPING AT THE WATERWAY POINT

Giant brands such as H&M will be opening soon here at Waterway Point, but for now, there are already several brands that are open for business. Think Factorie, Cotton On, Lovisa and even Japanese chain, Daiso. This Daiso outlet is massive and probably one of the biggest here in Singapore.

You can also expect hair salons, nail parlours and so much more. The mall is pretty much “self-contained”.

WATERWAY POINT RESTAURANTS AND EATERIES

Now, here comes the really good part, and the one that gets us excited. Yes, the food!

While not all of the restaurants are open for business yet, some big names have already started operating. They are So Pho, Osaka Osho, Bali Thai, Miam Miam, Social Square and more.

Outlets such as Coffee Bean and Joe & Dough are slated to open pretty soon, but until then, you can still choose from a variety of other F&B outlets.

REFRESHING COCONUT WATER

Our eyes were immediately drawn to a new stall called CocoCane and we did a double-take when we first read the name in our heads. Alas (and thankfully), the kiosk actually serves 100% pure coconut water and 100% pure sugarcane juice.

Coconut water is such a favourite, and so is the classic sugarcane juice. This is practically the simplest business concept, but one that is also evergreen!

We had the Coconut Water (S$3.50) and added a dollop of Nata de Coco (S$0.70). Prices are indeed slightly steep but nevertheless, coconut water is nothing short of refreshing – just what we needed on a hot, sunny afternoon.

And, we reckon this is a healthier alternative to bubble tea anyway.

DANGEROUSLY ADDICTIVE BURGERS

We stumbled upon a home-grown brand called Burger Up. The burgers were so good that we had them two days in a row!

We had a Surf & Turf Burger Meal with Fries, a drink, added a fried egg and some sambal sauce for S$11. You bet the burger was huge; definitely enough to fill you up happily.
