Forget about your typical ice cream, waffles and tarts; THE dessert that you should be paying attention to is the classic sticky date pudding.

Warm, sticky and saccharine sweet; it is simply impossible to resist a plate of this ambrosial goodness. However, in Singapore, it isn’t easy to find places that serve up a solid plate of sticky date pudding.

Therefore, to help you, we’ve compiled a list of our top 10 favourite places in Singapore to get your hands on our all-time favourite dessert.

ALL THINGS DELICIOUS

This technically isn’t a sticky date pudding but we feel that it deserves to be on the list as it tastes exactly like one. The Sticky Toffee Pudding by All Thing Delicious is dense, moist and has just the nice amount of sweetness to it. Each serving of pudding is also drizzled with a copious amount of sticky toffee sauce that really completes the dessert.

ARTICHOKE CAFE + BAR

Artichoke Cafe + Bar dishes out some of the most sinful plates of sticky date pudding around. This aromatic mound of goodness is dense, warm and moist all at once and this is made even better by the moat of burnt milk and custard cream that adds an intense layer of sweetness to the overall dessert. We’d risk having a sore throat just for this!

GROUP THERAPY

The portion sizes here at Group Therapy are incredibly generous despite its affordable price point. Each portion of the pudding comes with a massive dollop of ice cream that begins to melt almost immediately upon serving due to the warmth from the pudding. This provides one with that lovely contrast of temperatures that make sticky date puddings so amazing.

HABITAT COFFEE

Some dub it as the best sticky date pudding that they’ve ever had and though we do not have the same claim, Habitat Coffee’s rendition is still one to try. We love how the addition of walnuts provides the dessert with an interesting crunch as well as a nutty taste.

ORIOLE COFFEE + BAR

Oriole Coffee + Bar’s sticky date pudding features a dense pudding sponge that is surrounded by a moat of warm, velvety toffee sauce. Indulgent, and we dare say, sinful, this dessert is finished with a huge scoop of fresh vanilla ice cream over top. The ice cream sparks a lovely contrast with the warm pudding and toffee sauce, giving you an interesting burst of sensations and flavours with each spoonful.

P.S CAFE

This is a classic and it probably needs no introduction at all. PS.
PRIVE

Prive’s sticky date pudding is one of the best looking ones around and we love how despite it being so dense and moist, it does not come off as very heavy. The addition of walnuts also adds a nice bite to the desert and its nutty flavours complement the sweetness of the pudding.

THE LOKAL

Despite looking a little lacklustre as compared to the other sticky date puddings on this list, The Lokal’s version of it proves that looks aren’t always everything. The dessert has robust ginger notes that were further enhanced by the generous amount of caramel sauce that was drizzled all over it.

The Marmalade Pantry’s sticky date pudding is one of our favourites on this list and it is yet another classic that Singaporeans can relate to. We love how it is always consistent – served warm with a generous scoop of premium ice cream.

WIMBLY LU

Wimbly Lu’s sticky date pudding is essentially a moist sponge cake made with finely chopped dates drenched in a sweet toffee sauce and served warm. We appreciate how the sweet toffee sauce complements the fluffy sponge cake without being too overly decadent and sore-throat inducing.

This guide to the best truffle fries in Singapore was last updated on 22 Feb 2015.

Truffle fries are French fries tossed with truffle oil, truffle salt and parmesan cheese. Truffle oil is used to impart the earthy flavour and aroma of truffles to fries; giving it a strong smoky after-taste. It is not hard to understand why people crave for it. There is just something appealing about the exotic truffle oil – you either love it or hate it. Here is a list of the best truffle fries in Singapore.

#1 DANCING CRAB

Dancing Crab is a new dining concept by the Tung Lok Group at the Grandstand. The whole idea is that you eat seafood directly from the table with your bare hands – of course, you can use utensils or eat from the plates, but we won’t encourage that because it takes the fun away.

The restaurant offers a side of Spicy Cajun Fries (S$7) to go along with the classic seafood dishes like Fish & Chips, and Lobster Roll. But we highly recommend getting the Truffle Fries (S$7).

Habitat Coffee at Upper Thomson Road deserves a mention for the great work that it has been doing. The bistro has been around for a few years, and despite the tough competition, it shines and remains a favourite for many. The menu has a nice mix of sandwiches, brunch food, pasta, and desserts, but you must start with the Truffle Fries (S$8).

I finally went to PS Café! I’ve been meaning to try out PS Café for the longest time, but somehow I did not get the chance to.

PS Café has four branches in Singapore (Ann Siang Hill, Dempsey Hill, Paragon and Palais), and each of them gives a different vibe. For the PS Cafe Palais Renaissance outlet, the interior is chic and classy with dim romantic lighting. It also has a lovely white-tiled terrace dining area if you prefer to dine outside.

There are many nice Cafes in Singapore, what exactly makes PS Cafe so popular?

PS Cafe serves mainly western dishes like soup, salad, sandwiches, burger, pasta and main courses. Prices range from $25-$40 for a main course whilst desserts are mostly between $10-$15. I have to agree that prices are not exactly cheap, but then again, you are paying for the ambiance.

Nothing beats having a drink before dinner. Bagaholicboy highly recommended the Sangrias at PS Cafe and we had a glass each to start with the Grilled Prawn Salad. Nothing fanciful, just nicely grilled prawns and greens with a creamy dressing.

In terms of portion, PS Café’s truffle fries were mightily impressive.

However, it is probably not advisable to order it unless you are in a big group. As you can well imagine, we only managed to finish half of the huge stack of fries.

I am not a big fan of truffle fries. To me, I think it is kind of silly to pay a premium for fries that are merely tossed with truffle oil. The smokey gasoline aftertaste, which everyone seems to love, does not really appeal to me.

If you are looking for an appetiser or a main course that is not too filling, go for the Crab Tart. Drizzled with prawn bisque cream, the crab meat within the crisp tart was actually quite decent. I’d prefer the usual dessert tart to this savoury tart though.

Ps Cafe is the perfect place for a lazy weekend breakfast, the place for a nice afternoon tea, the place for a romantic dinner with your date, the place for a girls night out – the place to go when you want to dine in a nice restaurant with your favourite people.

Whilst there are some who argue that Project Shop Cafe serves overpriced food and the place is often crowded and noisy, I can still see myself returning for brunch and desserts.

PS Cafe may not have the best food, but it does not really matter since people come here for the ambiance. Service though, is a little lacking, as it was quite difficult for us to get the attention of the waitress. But then again, this could be due to the positioning of our table at a corner of the restaurant.

I will probably head to PS Café Ann Siang Hill or Harding Road for brunch next! Which is your favourite PS Café outlet?
