MAINS WITH GENEROUS PORTIONS

From hearty brunch dishes (available on weekends from 11am – 3pm & PH), to main courses which come in a generous portion, the food at Platform 1094 is value-for-money and there are lots of choices to pick from.

The meat lovers can go for Charing Cross Road Ribeye (S$28), a 200g Angus beef ribeye that comes with grilled corn, broccoli, onion and mashed beetroot with a brown sauce on the side. This is truly a value-for-money dish for the portion.

Get your cameras ready for the Fireball Whiskey Half-Chicken (S$22) which is cooked in fire right before your eyes. One for the ‘Gram, guys.

We also highly recommend their Double Da Bomb Burger (S$19) and Fish & Chips (S$19).

For S$19, you get a huge piece of beer-battered pacific dory fried to a golden perfection. As if the generous serving is not filling enough, it comes with a green salad tossed in balsamic dressing, a mountain of fries and home-made tartare sauce.

The Double Da Bomb Burger features a juicy and huge double ground beef patty, cheddar cheese, sliced tomato, romaine lettuce, grilled bacon and sunny side-up egg. It is served with fries and green salad.

And moving on to the highlight of your dining experience at Platform 1094. The desserts and beverages are extraordinary and they are not like the usual items at a regular cafe.

MR LICH’S FLAMING BREW

You’d have seen this on your social media timeline before. Mr Lich’s Flaming Brew (S$16) is the bestselling drink at Platform 1094, and for a good reason.

The server will prepare the magic potion and put up a show at your table by torching Bacardi and pouring it into Blue Curacao liquor. Watch the magic unfold as you shake in cinnamon powder!

Apart from Mr Lich’s Flaming Brew, Platform 1094 has an awesome Happy Hour promotion for their alcoholic beverages. A pint of Asahi draught beer is only S$10, while you can get a glass of house wine at S$12. Who said this place is only for kids? The adults can be happy here, too!

WIZARD-THEMED DESSERTS

End off your meal with pretty and photogenic desserts that are baked by their in-house bakery, Elements. Their pastries and bakes are really good, we don’t remember having anything mediocre off the sweets menu.

Platform 1094′s signature dessert is the Sweet Treats of the Wizardry World (S$15) which comes with dark chocolate mousse on chocolate sponge. The chocolate dessert is beautifully plated and dusted with edible gold and it looks like a real spellbook with a magic wand.

The Golden Wing (S$15) is a dessert which consists of Mango and milk chocolate mousse with vanilla sponge cake.

One of our favourites on the menu, the Saffron risotto with beef cheek (S$34++) came with a chunk of juicy beef cheek placed on a bed of creamy saffron risotto that reminds us of the Spanish paella. We would, however, recommend this only for the light eaters or for sharing with other mains as the serving size is not substantial.

POLLEN’s 1,000 Guineas Shorthorn Beef (Striploin – S$38++, Ribeye – S$48++) is a treat for the senses.

From the perfectly seared edges to the medium pinkish interior, this one is for all the meat lovers. Accompanied on the side is a serving of fluffy, buttery mashed potato and a grilled portobello mushroom.

Located just a stone’s throw from its sister restaurant Binomio, El Tardeo specialises in stellar Spanish tapas and some of the tastiest gin cocktails around. Butcher Boy is a new Asian-inspired bar and grill at the Keong Saik dining enclave. This humble ‘meatery’ is the perfect space for meat-lovers in search for good vibes and solid meat dishes.

At Barnacles along Collyer Quay, you can indulge in the Marina Bay skyline whilst sipping inventive cocktails and indulging in some top-notch fare.

Kicking off this glorious feast, we had ourselves the Potato Mochi with Camembert Cheese (S$14++), Hummus with Cucumber and Crostini (S$14++) and a Parma Ham & Spinach Salad (S$18++).

A glass of Martini Rosso & tonic is the perfect match for something as heavily spiced as the hummus that consisted of warm spices like cumin and paprika. The complex herbal aroma of the Rosso further arouses the palate whereas the crisp and acidic tonic cuts through the dip nicely.

The salad comprised salty and fatty components such as parma ham, feta cheese and pine nuts which may prove a tad over the top for a salad if not for a glass of prosecco to bring it all back to the ground. The brightness and acidity help to offset some of the fat whilst still allowing the subtle sweetness from the parma ham to come through.

Special mention has to be made about the Burdock Sticks With Sour Cream (S$16++) which is not the most common vegetable around. A burdock is a root taken from the burdock plant and it tastes like a cross between an asparagus and an eggplant.

Deep-fried till crispy, it goes beautifully well with a glass of a Martini Royale, a cocktail designed in-house that contains Martini Bianco with a touch of lime juice.

CÉ LA VI

When it comes to cocktail bars in the city with breathtaking views, many would think of Cé La Vi. Think fine culinary creations, innovative cocktail concoctions as well as a stunning ambience.

As with most sparkling wines, Martini’s Prosecco is dry with high acidity; a straightforward wine that is simple and crisp with characteristics ranging from apple, thyme and apricot.

Based on its fruity, effervescent nature and mouthwatering acidity, it pairs best with something salty or extremely rich in flavours like an Salt & Szechuan Pepper Crispy Squid (S$26++) or a Cheese Board (S$35++)

The Tomato -V- pizza (S$22++) comprised a rich and tart tomato sauce, sun-dried tomatoes, chopped up basil leaves and copious amounts of mozzarella cheese. The cheese board comprised artisanal cheeses that were creamy, salty and bold in flavour. And the crispy squid was deep-fried to perfection with a subtle hint of pepper. As the saying goes, you can never go wrong pairing Italian flavours with Italian wine.

On 14th September, be part of Cé La Vi’s Terrazza Martini party, which will be open to the public from 9pm onwards.

HARRY’S (ESPLANADE)

Buckle up for a delicious adventure just around the corner with Harry’s featuring delightful snacks and full-on mains as you bask in the beauty that is the Singapore river and the modern marvels surrounding it after a hard day’s work.

Ravenous individuals in need of a good feed should definitely head down to Beach Road Kitchen, an all-day-dining restaurant by JW Marriott Singapore South Beach.

Featuring a mouthwatering buffet line featuring fresh oysters shucked upon request and an exciting a la carte menu, diners will be spoilt for choice at this colossal restaurant.

Off their a la carte menu, you can enjoy items such as their Tuna Tartare (S$22++) that comes with a sourdough bread and a bed of avocado, Rucola Salad (S$29++) that has a huge ball of burrata cheese as its main centrepiece, as well as the Kaya Crépe (S$12++).

While a classic Prosecco would work marvellously with dishes like these, we propose having either the Martini Rosso or Bianco with tonic instead. Given that most of them are delicately flavoured so as to maintain the integrity of the fresh ingredients, the complex vermouth coupled with a mild bitter tonic offers a nice contrast to the sweet and savoury qualities of each component.

SALT TAPAS & BAR

Sitting right outside Raffles City Shopping Mall, Salt Tapas & Bar is an unpretentious and absolutely authentic Australian-influenced eatery offering a range of tasty small plates creations along with an impressive wine list.

Charcuterie and wine are a classic combination. Salt Tapas & Bar’s Charcuterie Platter (S$29++) includes coppa ham, air-dried beef and truffle salami—a reliable charcuterie fixture. 

The Mushroom Parfait, Pickles, Onion Jam, Garlic Toast (S$9++) is pretty much a vegetarian version of a good old pâté. Rich, smooth and extremely buttery, this makes for an excellent sharing plate, with the onion jam and pickled mushrooms helping to cut through the sheer decadence of the parfait. This dish is best enjoyed with a crisp cocktail like a Martini Bianco & tonic, which works well in getting rid of the intense fattiness.

If you love pies stuffed with copious amounts of cheese and wilted vegetables, then the Spanakopita (S$20++) is a dish you should definitely get. Encased in a crispy, delicate filo pastry are rich feta cheese and nicely wilted Greek spinach. Heavy as it might seem, squeezing some lemon over it will really brighten the dish and keeps it relatively light.

THE BEACON

The Beacon is about good food, the best drinks and excellent music. They serve up hearty Italian fare perfectly paired with a carefully curated cocktail menu. Bid farewell to the ended work day over a glass of sweet Rosé here.

Martini’s sparkling rosé is sweet and features delicate notes of raspberry and rose. It is also relatively light and dry which makes it a good accompaniment to salty and flavourful dishes such as The Beacon Salad (S$13++) as well as the Bacon Salad Wrap (S$18++).

To cap off our simple yet delicious meal, we opted for the Fried Mochi (S$6++). Rosés are not typically regarded as a dessert wine as opposed to a Moscato, however, the dry and crisp wine did well to cut through the dense and rich dessert.

Freehouse is a craft beer joint you can escape to after a hard day’s work. Hidden on the second floor of a shophouse along Boon Tat Street, feel free to knock back a few pints and leave your troubles at the door.

This unsuspecting craft beer den houses up to 16 different craft beers and ciders on rotation, all affordably priced from S$9 for a 10oz pint. The selection changes constantly, so feel free to ask the bartender what the hottest beers are for the week.

In addition to their excellent range of tipples, they also serve up amazing grub; interesting bar bites like their signature Cereal Frog Legs With Ginger Flower Dressing to mouth watering mains like their Bombay Burger With Piccalilli.

Freehouse does not have a particularly striking sign board, just a small fluorescent one that might be a little tricky to spot. Once you find it, your journey to beer heaven begins at the foot of a dimly lit staircase.

This joint exudes a cosy and laid-back vibe. The quaint shophouse space is simply decorated with wood furniture, twinkling lights, graffiti stained walls, and craft beer posters but what really got us excited was the bar—a row of 16 shiny taps against pristine tiles.

We started off with some of their more interesting varieties; a 10oz glass of Heretic Chocolate Hazelnut Porter (S$12++ for 10oz) followed by another (of the same measure) of Zeffer Cider Cherry Bomb (S$11.50++ for 10oz)

Their food menu is not extensive, but they sure pack a punch and include possibly some of the most interesting renditions of classic bar bites we have ever seen.

We ordered the Bombay Burger With Piccalilli (S$15++) which comprised a massive boneless chicken thigh seasoned beautifully with Indian spices (cumin being a dominant flavour), sandwiched between two sturdy yet pillowy, perfectly charred buns. The chicken itself brimmed with so much flavour and was tender enough to chew off with relative ease.

If you love spicy food, then definitely go for the Thai Beef Sliders With Somtum (S$16++). Although small in size, the kitchen really goes above and beyond to stuff a smorgasbord of ingredients between two tiny buns.

The Thai flavours really came through with this. It was tangy, sweet with an intense heat that kicks you at the end. The beef patty was firm and juicy and the tangy som tum salad provided an added brightness to the dish.

Despite the spiciness leaving us gasping for ice water after, we must say that this was some of the best sliders we have ever had. Period.

#2 HI-SO ROOFTOP BAR

Head right to the rooftop of Sofitel So Singapore and you will be greeted by a beautiful pool, surrounded by skyscrapers and office buildings in the Central Business District. Hi-So Rooftop Bar is a poolside bar in the hotel, and it is like a playground in the midst of the concrete jungle.

You can rest and relax on one of the sofa seats “cabana-style”, and sip on a tropical cocktail. Snap a few Outfit of The Day (#ootd) shots in this photogenic rooftop bar, too.

To capture our perfectly-balanced photo, we used the electronic viewfinder on the Canon Powershot G5 X that aided us seamlessly with composition.

#3 KINKI

This Japanese-style bar is probably one of the quirkiest you can find in Singapore. We fell in love with the graffiti wall murals and the carefree open-air seating on the rooftop of Customs House.

The view of Kinki overlooks the Singapore skyline and you can catch an unblocked view of the iconic Marina Bay Sands.

#4 LANTERN

This popular bar sits on the top level of The Fullerton Bay Hotel, and it is one of our all-time favourites in Singapore. Boasting a view of the Marina, Lantern makes a splendid option for a Bros’ Night Out. We can totally imagine the vibe of Lantern during the Grand Prix period!

Lantern opens throughout the day, and you can even visit the bar for a mid-day drink. They’ve got pretty good promotions during the day, too.

#5 LOOF

With the bright crimson sign that is synonymous with the bar’s names, Loof has always been popular and we lost track of how many times we saw a photo of the sign on our Instagram feed.

The entire place sure is photo-worthy – from the sleek bar to the casual seating area. Although the lighting at Loof is pretty dim and uneven, a photo as such is possible with the Canon Powershot G5 X. The signature low light feature had us snapping away with ease!

#6 MISCHIEF

When Mischief took over its predecessor’s place at Esplanade, we were wondering if the restaurant-bar would garner enough crowds to sustain itself. But the brainchild of Mediacorp artistes Cynthia Koh and Michelle Chong and ex-Radio Jockey Daniel Ong is one place with really great deals on their beer and house pours.

We love Mischief for their low-hanging fairy lights and multi-coloured chairs – perfect for some portraits, or wefie moments with friends. Here’s a tip – you can hold up your food or drinks against the fairy lights for a blurred out (bokeh) effect. That will be a gorgeous photo there!

#7 ORGO BAR & RESTAURANT

This modern rooftop bar at Esplanade is a sight to behold and the entire bar is filled with spacious sofa seats and private rooms.

Orgo Bar & Restaurant also overlooks the Singapore skyline, and they make some pretty fantastic cocktails.

#8 RUMPOLES BAR

Rumpoles Bar is slightly different from the other bars on this list as it is an enclosed and cosy bar inside Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore. What makes the bar so special is the vivid graffiti on the walls and the adorable barrel tables.

Lighting can be tricky here, but the Canon PowerShot G5 X uses a large 1.0” 20.2 megapixel CMOS sensor that renders higher sensitivity for superior image quality, so you can be assured that photos of your night out will turn out really well.

#9 SMOKE & MIRRORS

Besides the ultra-cool name, Smoke & Mirrors wowed us with one of the best and unobstructed views of the Esplanade, Padang, Singapore Flyer and other iconic structures in Singapore. Located high above the newly-opened National Gallery, Smoke & Mirrors consists of an elegant reflective bar and open-air seatings.

As night falls and the city skyline lights up, Smoke & Mirrors will transform into a stylish bar with a different kind of view. Either way, we promise a picture-perfect moment here.

#10 SOUTHBRIDGE

As big fans of the fresh oysters at Southbridge, another one of our favourite things about this place is the view. Yes, we sound like a broken record but in this case, we would rather just let the picture do the talking.

As they say, a picture speaks a thousand words and if you are ever early at Southbridge, snag a good seat and the rest of your night is settled.
