The foodie community wept when The Marmalade Pantry announced back in mid-2018 that it was closing it’s outlet at ION Orchard. A beloved high-tea spot in the heart of town, we fell in love with everything there from their charming ambience, innovative brunch dishes and a wide selection of artisanal teas and cakes.

Well, surprise, surprise, the home-grown bistro is set to return to its former premise on the 4th level of ION Orchard once again. This time, armed with a tasty arsenal of new dishes in addition to signature favourites such as their Spicy Crabmeat pasta and Sticky Date & Toffee Pudding. Looking forward to other new and exclusive to this outlet dishes like the stellar high-tea set and a trio of decadent desserts specially crafted by Masterchef Singapore’s runner-up, Chef Genevieve Lee as part of a collaboration that pays humble tribute local dishes and in support of local talent.

With a whopping total of more than 10 new and exclusive menu items and more, be wowed by the likes of their new Asian section, featuring the Kimchi Fried Rice, served with a gorgeously pink medium-rare strip loin and the Singapore Laksa, a homage to our beloved local dish but with the addition of slipper lobster. Looking to pamper yourself as you catch up with friends? Their Decadent Afternoon Tea Set comes with a variety of sweet and savoury confectionery delights and freshly brewed pots of tea by Monogram.

MARYLAND CRAB CAKES

The key to any good crab cake is using fresh lump crabmeat, leaving them slightly chunky and not overly shredded and to go light on the filler. Safe to say, the folks here nailed it perfectly. Their Maryland Crab Cakes (S$26++) focuses squarely on the crab, allowing each bite to be crispy and packed full of sweetness and natural flavours of crab.

The homemade tartar sauce served on the side was also spot on, not overly rich with a good amount of diced gherkins added to give the sauce a sufficient citrus kick to complement the crab cakes.

SPICY SRIRACHA CHICKEN BURGER

Delightful in both its flavour and texture, the Spicy Sriracha Chicken Burger (S$24++) assaults the several fronts. First, you get the crunch from the perfectly deep-fried spiced chicken patty before succulent juices come oozing out, followed by the tangy kick from the Sriracha mayo which nicely complements the rich notes of the blue cheese.

SINGAPORE LAKSA

Unlike many restaurants out there that try to tweak and reinvent local dishes to the point that it’s unrecognisable, the good folks here do well to retain the essence of what they aim to recreate. The broth of their Singapore Laksa (S$32++) is rich, spicy and exudes a bold seafood aroma and also features the likes of slipper lobster, quail eggs, tiger prawns for that luxe appeal.

KIMCHI FRIED RICE

A homage to the classic after-tipple comfort food, we were most thrilled to tuck into their new Kimchi Fried Rice (S$26++). On a bed of fried rice cooked with fresh kimchi, sits a nicely seared striploin steak, perfectly pink in the middle and golden brown from edge to edge. For umami, nori is garnished over the top and sous vide egg, served on the side for added richness.

Served flat on a griddle pan—similar to how a Spanish paella would be served—the bottom layer of the rice achieves an even crust, giving the dish a toasted flavour and a crunch as well.

SPICY CRABMEAT PASTA

Perhaps one of the best pasta dishes we’ve tried here to date, the Spicy Crabmeat Pasta (S$26++) impresses with its generosity with good quality crabmeat, perfectly cooked pasta and a flavourful, umami-dense sauce that binds everything together nicely.

The addition of pine nuts into the mix gives the dish a nutty, somewhat buttery flavour which does well to complement the sharp taste of the spicy tomato sauce.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>//

AFTERNOON TEA SET

Luxurious in both its food and tea offerings as well as its luxe interior, stopping by for high tea between 3pm to 6pm daily is highly recommended.

Treat yourselves to their High Tea Set (S$60++) that comfortably serves two. What you get is a double-tiered platter comprising a variety of sweet and savouries followed by 2 pots of freshly brewed tea by Mongram Tea (Available from 4 March 2019 onwards).

ANTI:DOTE

Possibly the most commonly photographed afternoon tea set, Anti:Dote at Fairmont Singapore has won over members of the high society with its irresistible artisanal gourmet.

Unlike the typical buffet spreads and floral tiered cake stands, dainty treats are actually presented above and inside a jewelry drawer chest.

An afternoon tea set for two includes two specialty teas and a two-tier stand of light sweets and savouries. We love their refreshing iced fruit teas, particularly Pomelo Tea and Lychee Tea that would be served in pretty clear glass teapots. Sip away in style or get your hands dirty at their in-house painting room. At an additional cost (from S$28 onwards), you can unleash the budding artist in you and take home your painted canvas.

When it comes to afternoon tea, the de facto meeting place for many people is Shangri-La Hotel’s Lobby Court. It offers the traditional English Afternoon Tea ($34++/pax on weekdays, $36++/pax on weekends) – which comes with finger sandwiches, scones, and cakes.

If you are looking for somewhere to spend a quiet afternoon, I can’t think of a better place than Shangri-La’s Lobby Court.

The scones – with a gorgeous golden crust – are also one of the best that I’ve had in town. When you take a bite, it leaves crumbs all over the table top. It is good on its own, but even better when slathered with jam and clotted cream.

I love afternoon tea. It combines three of my favourite things – yummy desserts, a nice pot of tea, and catching up with good friends.

I’ve always heard about the afternoon tea at Chihuly Lounge, Ritz-Carlton Millenia, but for some reason, I never had the chance to try it. When I finally went there recently for an afternoon indulgence, I must say that they did not disappoint – if anything, exceeded expectations.

I really like Chihuly Lounge. I like that the place has a high ceiling – allowing light to flood the lounge – and it feels spacious and comfortable. I like that the lounge has good chill-out music, it is a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by. I like that the staff are attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. And of course, I love the cakes, pastries, and sandwiches, that are oh-so-delicious.

Unlike the usual hotel afternoon tea, Chihuly Lounge offers a decadent eight-course afternoon tea set menu ($39++/pax, from 2.30pm to 5pm). After you have settled down, the staff will bring out a pretty tea mocktail, which is served with a selection of crackers with XO chilli sambal. Then, you will proceed to choose a pot of tea — from a wide selection on the menu — or freshly-brewed coffee. Before the main event, you get to enjoy the carving station trolley which gives you the choice of beef wellington or salmon coulibiac (note: this changes on a weekly basis).

And finally, the tea set stand consists of smoked chicken and chestnut salad in laugen roll; avocado and cream cheese in whole meal finger and cucumber; parma ham on olive baguette; Scottish smoked salmon in almond buns; plain and raisin scones; pistachio macarons; lemon cheese cake with meringue; chocolate praline tarts; and strawberry puffs.

If you still have room, you must try the raspberry sorbet which comes in a very pretty ice cream cone.

Last, but not least, there is the dessert trolley with tea cakes, cookies, kueh lapis, and pralines.

You get to enjoy the whole experience for just $39++/person. For a five-star afternoon tea, I would definitely recommend Chihuly Lounge at Ritz-Carlton Millenia.

UPDATED: The Regent Singapore Weekend High tea Buffet Giveaway is now closed. I will be announcing the results on twitter later in the evening. Thank you for participating.

The winners of Weekend High Tea giveaway are: #90, #454, #1061, #174, & #730.

The Regent Singapore’s Tea Lounge is well known for their afternoon tea in Singapore. On weekdays, they serve the traditional English Afternoon tea on a 3 tier stand. They also have a very popular Weekend High Tea Buffet which is always fully reserved.

The Tea Lounge has recently revamped their weekend High Tea Buffet selections with more tantalising choices. I am partnering The Regent Singapore to giveaway five pairs of the Weekend Afternoon Buffet High Tea ($44++/pax) at The Tea Lounge.

It makes sense to go for the Weekend High Tea Buffet if you are a big eater. Besides the assortment of finger sandwiches, home-baked scones, freshly baked pastries and cakes, the afternoon tea buffet also comes with a scrumptious spread of food.

Check out the Asian corner which has sushi, satay, spicy chicken wings, and dim sum. Okay, this is a secret between us: you MUST TRY the confit of salmon at the Carving station when you are there. It is out-of-this-world, trust me. Besides the salmon, there is also the slow roasted leg of lamb on Saturday and English roast beef on Sunday. Not to forget that there is also a gelato station with a selection of ice cream and sorbet. Here’s the best part, they have a waffles and crepes station too! You can have as many waffles and crepes as you want, and you should also know that the Tea Lounge is famous for their Passionfruit Souffle with caramel sauce. Amazing isn’t it?

The Regent Singapore Weekend Afternoon Buffet High Tea giveaway is exclusive to the readers of my food blog.

All my friends who have been to the Tea Lounge @ The Regent Singapore’s for their afternoon tea, have been raving about it. Many of them even go to the extent of calling it one of the best afternoon tea in Singapore. Naturally, I’m curious if The Regent Tea Lounge is worth all the hype.

In my previous post on Jewel Artisan Chocolate’s Afternoon Tea, I’ve mentioned that there’s a difference between Afternoon Tea and High Tea.

At The Regent Singapore’s Tea Lounge, they have both the traditional English Afternoon Tea ($38++) with the desserts/pastries/sandwiches on a 3 tier dessert stand during weekdays, and a local high tea buffet ($52++) on weekends.

It may seem very expensive to pay $38++ for the 3 tier dessert afternoon tea. After all, there’s only a couple of petite sandwiches, scones, mini cakes, and a pot of tea, right? No, the afternoon tea set is much more than that, and there’s definitely more than enough food. Having an afternoon tea is an indulgence in life, it is about the feeling of sipping a cup of tea, nibbling finger sandwiches and tasting the petite desserts, while enjoying a leisure afternoon in the tea lounge with your friends or loved ones.

If you get the Afternoon Tea Set for yourself (no sharing), all the items are replenish-able and you can eat as much as you want. BUT, if two of you choose to share ONE afternoon tea set, it is an one-off thing, and the items will not be replenish-able.

There’s a good selection of English tea to choose from, otherwise you can always have coffee or homemade hot chocolate. Among the petite sandwiches (they change from time to time) that we tried, I love the Egg Salad & Cucumber on white toast which was light and delicate. The organic smoked salmon on Sunflower seed bread was equally tasty. The good thing about mini sandwiches? I can have as many I want without feeling guilty.

The gorgeous scones at The Regent Singapore Tea Lounge were wonderful. They could barely sit still around the soft strawberry jam and clotted cream, so I had to finish two of them on my own.

From the petite four desserts, the Chocolate-Yuzu Tart with pecan nut had a flavour that combines citrus with chocolate — it tasted like love. We also had a pear-flavoured financer, and chocolate madelaine.

Personally, I like the comfort of sitting down to enjoy the afternoon tea without having the need to jostle and fight with other people at the buffet counters. For the weekday afternoon tea set, everything is served to your table, and it will be replenished with a wave of the hand.

But if you prefer to have more variety of food, go for The Tea Lounge’s Weekend High Tea Buffet which has a local theme. They have the usual sandwiches, pastries and cakes, with the additional buffet counter of sushi, Asian corner, savoury items, dim sum, and gelato & crepes. Mind you, it’s a lot of food for an afternoon tea buffet!

The Regent Singapore Tea Lounge’s Afternoon Tea Set selection varies from time to time, they may not be serving exactly the same cakes and sandwiches, but each set will definitely comes with fresh finger sandwiches, Petite Four cakes/pastries, freshly baked scones and a pot of tea.

Note: This is an invited tasting session.

Sometimes, all it takes is chocolate and cake to make me happy. I’m very sure that I’m not the only one who feels this way, so if you like chocolate and cake too, you should drop by Jewel Artisan Chocolate for their afternoon high tea.

They are located on the second level of Orchard Central. At just $14.80++, I’d think that Jewel Artisan Chocolate has a pretty value for money tea set for those who are not willing to splurge $38++/pax to have afternoon tea at a Five Star Hotel.

I was caught in a dilemma for the title of this post. You see, afternoon tea typically refers to a light mid afternoon break from 3pm to 5pm and there’s usually sandwiches and scones, while high tea is an early evening meal between 5pm to 6pm. Technically speaking, Jewel Artisan Chocolate’s tea set cannot be classified under both afternoon tea or high tea since it is an all day affair from 11am to 6pm in the evening.

Oh what the heck, I’m calling it Afternoon high tea, you can figure it out yourself. The $14.80++ High Tea Set at Jewel Artisan Chocolate Orchard Central includes: 1 x truffle/praline, 1 pc macaron, 1 slice of 85% Dark Chocolate Gateau, 1 dollop x Ice Cream/Sorbet, and 1 pot x Gourmet Tea.

The two of us decided to share an afternoon tea set plus an additional Dark Chocolate Lava Cake from their cake menu ($10.80/serving). If you do not fancy the ubiquitous chocolate lava cake, there’s also the chocolate tart, chocolate crumble, chocolate gateau or chocolate mousse to choose from.

The mini slice of 85% Dark Chocolate Gateau which comes with the afternoon tea set was rich, smooth, and very cakey (if there’s even such a word). For the macarons, there are choices of Black Palm Island Salt, Raspberry, Butterfly Pea Bloom, Green tea, Passionfruit, Dark chocolate, Hazelnut and Butterscotch. We had a macaron from the tea set, and it was so addictive. In the name of research, we ended up ordering another two macaron ($2 each).

I wasn’t too impressed with the Butterfly Pea Bloom. Other than the seemingly-artificial colouring, the combination of kaya and pandan almond cream didn’t really go well together for my taste bud. The Raspberry wasn’t too bad, but it was the Black Palm Island Salt (atas name for Salted egg yolk) macaron that was truly phenomenal! It’s impossible to describe the intriguing flavor, please go to Jewel Artisan and try it out for yourself. It’s possibly one of the best macarons in Singapore.

It’s a shame that there wasn’t any vanilla ice cream on the menu to go along with the Dark Chocolate Lava Cake ($10.8), so we had two scoops of hazelnut and dark chocolate (one for the tea set and the other comes with the lava cake).

The chocolate lava exploded as I cut off a corner of the cake. Warm and luscious dark chocolate with a scoop of cold ice cream – life can’t get any better than this.

Jewel Artisan Chocolate High Tea is a good option (11am to 6pm daily) if you are not able to make it during lunch time for the $12++ dessert buffet from One Ninety Restaurant at Four Seasons Hotel. Now, if only the chairs are more comfortable, I will be back all the time for a pot of tea, a nibble of truffle and a slice of cake.

Tuesday is usually the hardest day of the week. Even though everyone always grumbles about Mondays blues, I’d think that Monday isn’t as bad as Tuesday since we are fully recharged during the weekends. But Tuesday, they are neither here nor there. It isn’t midweek yet, nor is it just-one-more-day-to-Friday, and obviously it isn’t TGIF.

Anyway, my point is: Tuesday sucks. So stop asking if everything is okay, because it is not. But my dear, I want to give you some hope. I want you to see the light at the end of the tunnel week. I’m going to try and make your day better by blogging about the High Tea Buffet at Barracks Cafe House Dempsey Road.

I’m a sucker for Afternoon High Tea.

Be it the classic English High Tea with the pretty three tier desserts, or a simple true-blue Singaporean tea break with Kaya toast and coffee – the fact is, all of us should enjoy our tea break. It is the period in between lunch and dinner, when we feel sleepy and grumpy. Food will never let you down, have a good feast!

From 1st July till 1st October, Barracks Cafe at House, Dempsey road is serving what they called the “Summer High Tea Buffet” every Thursday and Friday afternoon from 3pm – 5.30pm. For $25 nett per pax, one gets to enjoy a leisure afternoon with your friends and loved ones over high tea items and a pot of tea. Now, don’t your Tuesday suddenly sounds much better already?

In the name of research purposes, I went all out and tried to taste everything. Starting with the small and nimbly Cheesecake marbled brownie, I continued with the Chicken salad sandwich, tuna & shrimp sandwich, and munched a couple of the delicious cookies.

The scones, oh the scones.

There’s no need to find any excuses to eat butter and maple syrup, I can think of 1046 reasons to eat them. The scones from Barracks cafe were slightly dry and it would be better if they were heated up. But hey, you know what? Having scones during afternoon tea made it legitimate for me to indulge in butter and maple syrup without feeling guilty.

In addition to the high tea offerings, we also ordered the Red Espresso Tea Set ($9.50). Note that it’s a separate order and not part of the high tea buffet.

For a non-tea person, I enjoyed the red latte, but it was the Brioche with the red espresso jam that was truly amazing. Initially, I thought that the tiny bottle was a kaya spread. To my surprise, it was actually made from Rooibos tea. It looked like kaya, but it tasted even better than kaya! The Brioche, oh, it was so soft and super yummy. I know it sounds kind of bimbo-tic, but that’s the best description I can give.

Forget about the summer high tea buffet all right? Go for the Red Espresso Tea set okay? I’d like to apologize for moaning out loud after I had the brioche. Oh my god. Oh my god.

Unlike the more sophisticated offerings on Barracks Cafe’s ala carte dessert menu, the selections available at the high tea buffet, are simple and down-to-earth. There aren’t that many spectacular sweets, but for the kind of money and the variety offered, I think it’s a pretty good deal for high tea buffets.

With a pot of tea, a nibble here or two, and in the company of your favorite person, the afternoon high tea at Barracks Cafe House Dempsey silently transits into dinner without anyone noticing. How naughty! We also had the skinny pizzas and a couple of their signature desserts. But that’s a story for another time.

I love afternoon high tea. There’s really nothing quite like it as it combines three of my favourite things – yummy desserts, a nice pot of tea, and catching up with good friends.

I will be adding this list to the top of my Delicious page. Given that it’s already April, that means on average, I need to check out at least one buffet restaurant each month. Get going, save up for the indulgence and report back to me every time you ticked off a restaurant off this list.
