Gone are the days when waffles are being eaten on its own—there are literally cafes serving waffles paired with ice cream everywhere we go now and even savoury waffle pairings for those who do not have a sweet tooth.

The waffle and ice cream pairing seems to be a trend that never gets old. Golden brown, crispy waffles and velvety smooth ice cream is the perfect combination and an ideal dessert for many who are looking for a hearty dessert to round off the night.

Granted, these treats do not come cheap. For those who’d love to savour some waffles and ice cream without breaking the bank, fret not for here are 10 cafes in Singapore where you can get waffles and ice cream for less than S$10.

DENZY GELATO

Opened in February 2019, Denzy Gelato is a relatively new addition to the slew of cafes serving ice cream and waffles. Be that as it may, this humble cafe nestled under an HDB is worth a visit not just for its affordability but also their range of flavours.

A waffle with ice cream set will set you back by just S$8—try out their premium flavours (+S$1) including Elderflower Mojito Sorbet and Persian Peach, in which the latter is made using saffron and almond.

Most of us who live in the West should have already visited JEM, but how many of us are actually familiar with JEM inside and out? No one mentioned a hidden eatery located above Cookhouse by Koufu. If you think the fifth storey is the highest level in JEM, think again.

Poppy Pops actually sits on the sixth floor and is only accessible through the food court or the breezy rooftop located at the top of the shopping mall. If you are seeking a place with tranquil ambiance, sunlight and pleasant bites whenever you feel peckish, take a seat and grab a Poppy Classic along with the café’s Maple Butter Waffle.

What else is better than pleasant fare? Free Wi-Fi! Visitors do not have to pay for GST and service charge at Poppy Pops too.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The Premium flavours are each priced at S$5.80 and the Classics at S$4.80 each.

The popsicles are Poppy Pops’ specialty. We got ourselves a Poppy Trio (S$6), Poppy Classic with added on Maple Butter Waffles (S$7.80) and Truffle Fries (S$12).

We were stoked to dig into our Honey Butter Waffles with Lemon Blueberry Poppy topped with Milk Chocolate and Salted Biscuits.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Raspberry ripple flavoured ice cream atop a toasty and crunchy waffle. Perfect for a hot day—or any day for that matter.

The two-piece fried chicken (S$8.50) was beyond amazing. Marinated and deep-fried to perfection, the chicken was super crispy on the outside but moist and succulent on the inside. An added bonus is that it was not the slightest bit oily.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The sides that came along with it were decent but nothing much to shout about.

We also got the Super Value Meal (S$6.80) which consisted of a deep-fried boneless chicken thigh, white rice and a fried egg with a runny yolk. For what it’s worth, we think that it is a pretty good deal considering the large portion size.

The chicken was deep fried to perfection and the egg was cooked just right. However, we wish the rice could have been more aromatic and flavourful to better complement the other two components.

Waffletown was truly a breath of fresh air. A cosy eatery devoid of the hustle and bustle and pretentious aesthetics, serving comfort food at reasonable prices. We will definitely be back.

When prompted about good cafes to visit in Singapore, rarely does a café outside of the East or Central Singapore come to mind; and especially not one from Sembawang.

Common Chefs Café & Bakery is an exception and it will be a good enough reason for you to make a trip down to this Northern part of Singapore.

A café plus bakery, Common Chefs Café & Bakery offers a wide spread of Western dishes, drinks, delightful desserts at affordable prices. Here’s what to expect if you are taking a trip down.

The Single Cheese Burger (S$13 for beef, S$12 for chicken and S$11 for fish) features a juicy single patty packed together with freshly sliced tomatoes, cheddar cheese, mustard, mesclun salad and ketchup in a beautifully buttered brioche bun. All burgers come with fries on the side.

We thoroughly enjoyed the beef patty which was extremely tender and bursting with flavour. For an additional S$1, we upgraded the regular fries to truffle fries. While it was decent, it was not the best truffle fries we’ve tried.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

We were first intrigued by the cafe’s unique name, which appears to be inspired from the famous Route 66 highway in the US. The interior reflects a modern industrial outlook complete with cement walls, exposed light bulbs and wooden furnitures.

We opted for the Red Velvet Waffle and two scoops of ice cream (S$12.90+). Routesixtysix uses wooden boards as plates for their waffles, adhering to the cafe’s theme.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Beyond its lovely presentation, we were impressed with the taste of the waffle as well. While the edges were crispy and break off with a crackle, the waffle interior was soft and warm.

The ice cream flavours we picked were Rocky Road and Honey Lavender. Rocky Road is a rich chocolate flavour which goes extremely well with the Red Velvet Waffle. On the flip side, Honey Lavender is a little too sweet for our liking.

Of course, the best companion to dessert has to be coffee! The cafe’s Hot Cappuccino (S$4.20+) was a delight. We enjoyed the bitter and creamy tones from the espresso and steamed milk.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

#3 ISABELLE WAFFLE

The Isabelle Waffle (S$16.50) is a full-black charcoal waffle topped with everything a health nut will love—greek yogurt, peaches, strawberries, blueberries, banana, granola, pumpkin seeds, maple syrup and a sprinkle of icing sugar. A very pretty one indeed, and it’s great for days when you don’t want to sin too much but still need your waffle fix.

#4 YUAN YANG WAFFLE

The Yuan Yang Waffle (S$15) is an Instagram hit. Half of the waffle is charcoal, and the other is the classic batter. This monochromatic beauty is topped off with a huge serving of milk soft serve, cookie sticks, granola and chocolate hazelnut sauce. Simple, but it works for our soul all the time. This has always been one of our favourites at Twenty Grammes.

#5 INJEOLMI BINGSU

Yes, you read it right. Twenty Grammes has introduced the Korean dessert to their menu! The Injeolmi Bingsu (S$12.90) is a classic rendition of the Korean snow ice dessert and is topped off with soybean powder.

#6 CHOCOLATE FUDGE BROWNIE BINGSU

The Chocolate Fudge Brownie Bingsu (S$14.50) is a more badass version with generous toppings; just look at those huge chunks of fudge brownies. Although this version isn’t quite like the traditional bingsu, it is definitely more satisfying and we prefer this to the former!

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

We decided to go for the classics and one of the most popular items on the menu – Chicken & Waffles (S$17).

The combination of the crisp waffles and the juicy deep-fried chicken thigh was a match made in heaven and all the textures just weaved together seamlessly. The seasoning on the fried chicken thigh could not have been done better and both the spices and the batter of the chicken was done right.

Since Revelry specialises in waffles, we definitely had no qualms about the one that was served to us. It was both fluffy on the inside and crisp on there outside. The Chicken & Waffles combination also comes with maple syrup on the side, and lettuce and cherry tomatoes for an added crunch.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

If Chicken & Waffles are not up your alley, some other savoury creations to try are Prawn Avocado Tartare (S$17.50), Strawberries & Cheese (S$14) and the adorably named Monkey King (S$14) – which is really a dessert waffle with banana cake chunks, caramelised bananas, toasted walnuts and vanilla ice cream.

Also, did we mention that Revelry has free Wi-Fi?

Chicken & Waffles is EVERYTHING.

A typical all-American diner food this is, and one that we always crave for. Somehow, we didn’t have many options in Singapore, till recently. Suddenly, everyone is crazy about Chicken & Waffles, and that means more and more F&B establishments are jumping onto the bandwagon and coming up with their renditions.

We are certainly not complaining; we are up for this dish of fluffy waffles with fried golden-brown chicken anytime!

Chicken & Waffles first started gaining popularity in American-theme restaurants such as OverEasy and The Beast. Now, you can even find value-for-money options in coffee shops and in the heartlands of Singapore. We have collated a list of Best Chicken & Waffles in Singapore You Must Try!

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

We love how the cafe is so ideal for photos. Natural sunlight streams in through the glass panels in the day. Every table is evenly spaced out and nobody will feel intruded. Potted plants are placed sporadically. Light music on the loop. The brick wall makes a great backdrop for our desserts.

Among the many, Double Scoops is indeed the best artisanal gelato cafe in Ang Mo Kio.

LOW-FAT GELATO WITH ONLY 8% FAT

Double Scoops makes their own gelato in-house daily. Smooth and fresh, the flavours are aplenty. Some are on rotational basis, but the mainstays that you totally have to try include Thai Milk Tea, Baileys, Sea Salt Gula Melaka, Orh Nee and Speculoos.

If it is your lucky day, you might have a chance with the limited flavours of Salted Egg Yolk and Matcha Kit Kat.

The gelato are good on their own, and can be served in cups or cones. But to up the game, we say go for the waffles and thick toast with ice cream. Double Scoops – but of course, right? No pun intended.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

That is not to say that the charcoal waffle option is to be overlooked though. If you want something more interestingly-flavoured, this is it. Accompanied with a beautiful rich valrhona white chocolate ganache sauce, the charcoal waffle is also jazzed up with crunchy maple pecan granola and strawberry bits.

You can choose to top up your waffles with a single, double or triple scoop (S$3.30, S$5.80, S$8.80 respectively) of gelato. The more the merrier, of course!

You can also top-up for caramelised bananas and popcorn alongside your gelato. The caramelised bananas were torched well and added a nice textural variation to the classic waffles and ice cream dish.

A premium gelato flavour that we enjoyed our waffles with is the Bailey’s flavour. We have had many Bailey’s ice cream and gelato in our lives, and this by far, took first place for us. The flavour and texture were just right, and the alcohol was generous yet did not overpower.

CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKE

Need cake?

The Chocolate Lava Cake here at Double Scoops is pretty decent. It comes with a drizzle of raspberry sauce and your pick of gelato. This is best eaten immediately for the nice mixture of warm chocolate fudge and cold ice cream, and when your lava still flows.

GELATO FLOWER POT

The Gelato Flower Pot here may be nothing to shout about, but your kids are definitely going to love it. Your gelato of choice is packed into a mini plastic ‘flower pot’ and topped off with bits of crushed oreo and served with gummy worms.

We like the thoughtful touches of a plastic ‘spade’ spoon and garnishing of a herb as the ‘leaves’ of the plant.

Time flies. It has already been four years since artisanal ice-cream parlour Salted Caramel first opened its doors in Upper Thomson!

The popular of this ice-cream shop that is jam packed with customers every night till date still hasn’t died, and their formula to success in this cut-throat industry is no mind-blogging secret – they pride themselves on handcrafting ice-cream free from artificial enhancers and preservatives.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Salted Caramel has long become a favourite go-to dessert destination for Upper Thomson residers, as well as for those who do not live in the vicinity. Thankfully, their ice-cream prices remain extremely affordable despite its success. And yes, the salted caramel is still our favourite flavour.

The unpretentious ice-cream store’s prices are humbly justified. A single scoop (S$3.60), double scoop (S$6.40) or even a triple scoop (S$9.20) all cost well below S$10.

For a more substantial dessert, you can choose to add on a brownie (S$3.50) or a waffle (S$4) to your choice of ice cream. The selection of premium flavours will have you spoilt for choice, but our personal favourites are hands down Earl Grey, Horlicks Tim Tam, Milo and of course, Salted Caramel.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The turnover rate of cafes in Singapore is insanely brutal and soaring rentals have made it even harder for new establishments to thrive in this cut-throat food and beverage industry.

But by now, we all know that Salted Caramel is far from just a fad. Its novelty of being new has clearly worn off, but its regulars have been returning religiously for more. In fact, the ice cream parlour is now regarded as a household name amongst those who live in Thomson.

These days, few cafes impressed us enough for us to return again and again. But Hoopla Coffee & Kitchen made it and we have been there on a few occasions and none of the experiences disappointed.

It is located at the nondescript one-north, in a building called Infinite Studios. Not the most accessible cafe in the West of Singapore, but definitely worth making a trip down if you haven’t. With a welcoming and hippy environment where you can hang around with your friends, the brightly-lit cafe has a menu with nothing above S$17.

On the drinks menu, Hoopla is known for their matcha drinks. There are several to choose from – like Matcha Milk at S$6 and Matcha Salted Caramel at S$7 – but to be honest, those didn’t leave too great an impression on us; we prefer their regular brews and hot chocolate anytime.

Over on the food side, the kitchen has lots to offer – soups and salads, sandwiches, buttermilk waffles, breakfast dishes and comfort food, and signature steam pau sliders. Making a decision might be difficult, but we’ll help you.

The Buttermilk Waffles (S$4) that’s served with your choice of sauce is awesome. Crispy and warm, they are baked fresh to order. If you need a scoop of ice-cream, the add-on is only S$3.50 and we absolutely love the Tahitian Vanilla Bean.

The range of baked eggs (S$13 – S$15.50) under the ‘Comfort Food’ section are comforting indeed. But try it and you’ll know what we mean. We tried the Garlic Butter Prawn Aglio Olio (S$15), and it was decent but not fantastic. We’d say just go for the breakfast options.

Hoopla ticks all the right boxes – a comprehensive and inexpensive menu, aromatic brews, airy and spacious, artsy and makes good photo spots, and parking is very cheap.

This guide to Singapore’s best waffles was last updated on 24 Feb 2015.

Topped with fresh fruits, a scoop of ice cream, and a dollop of whipped cream, a good waffle is something that you can eat every day. For those of you who prefer something simpler, waffle with maple syrup and butter is equally gratifying.

There are many cafes and ice cream parlours that offer waffles on the menu, but only a few are exceptional. Here is our guide on where to get the best waffles in Singapore.

CREAMIER

The waffles from Creamier came highly recommended by many people, but after trying it, we did not think that it was that fantastic. Don’t get us wrong, the waffle that we had was very decent, and still better than most places – but we don’t get the hype over it. That said, it is impressive to see a cafe/ice cream shop doing well in a HDB estate, so if you are living in the area, and looking to satisfy your cravings, this is one place you can consider.

DANCING CRAB AT ORCHARD CENTRAL

We were wowed by the huge serving of Chicken & Waffles (S$15) at Dancing Crab, one of the best non-seafood dishes here. The batter on the chicken reminded us of the ones we had at New York City, and the accompanying sauces took this dish to a whole new level. It is indeed unexpected for a specialised seafood restaurant to dish such a mind-blowing rendition of fried chicken, and as much as it sounds funny, we will totally return to Dancing Crab for this very Chicken & Waffles.

We also like the Belgian style waffles with butter and maple syrup from Group Therapy Cafe at Duxton Road. They also have a more sinful version with peanut butter and maple syrup.

HATTER STREET

Hatter Street is one of the newest dessert cafes to open in the heartlands. Located in a HDB estate – just a few units away from popular Thai eatery Nakhon Kitchen – it offers desserts with a twist.

For waffles, Hatter Street serves three renditions (S$8) – waffle with salted caramel and homemade vanilla ice cream, waffle with chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce, and for something different, go for the waffle with pandan ice cream and gula melaka sauce.

MAX BRENNER CHOCOLATE BAR

The waffles (S$18.90) at Max Brenner are not cheap, but they are easily one of the best that we have had. There are three different flavours, but our favourite is the Banana Spilt Waffle. Coated with a copious amount of rich and thick chocolate sauce, and topped with banana and vanilla bourbon ice cream, it is immensely satisfying, and will make you return again and again.

SALTED CARAMEL CAFE

This ice cream parlour along Upper Thomson Road is perpetually crowded for a good reason – it offers good ice cream and waffles at very affordable prices. A scoop of ice cream is S$3.30, while a waffle is S$3.50.

Some of the popular ice cream flavours at Salted Caramel Cafe include Earl grey, horlicks, rum & raisin, but you must try the namesake salted caramel ice cream. Add that to freshly made waffle and you will get instant gratification.

SIN LEE FOODS

A notch above the rest – that’s how we’d describe Sin Lee foods. It is different from most of the cafes that serve your typical brunch fare like Eggs Benedict and Pancakes. The offerings here are creative, well-cooked and refreshing.

Sin Lee Foods’ Fried Chicken & Waffles (S$21) has been gaining a lot of attention lately, but we thought that the fried chicken was slightly underwhelming. What you should try instead is the S’mores Waffle (S$16). Just imagine burnt marshmallows and Graham crumbs lavishly spread atop the thick waffles. Add a scoop of gelato and dark chocolate sauce and you are on your way to sugar heaven.

STATELAND CAFE

Located on Bali Lane, Stateland Cafe has been making a name for itself for serving waffles with different flavours. Served with a scoop of ice cream, and topped with homemade cream cheese glaze, the Red Velvet Waffle (S$14.90) indeed lived up to its name. Other flavours include Black Forest, S’mores, and Toffee Nut.

Tuxedo Cafe & Patisserie at Carlton Hotel Singapore is a favourite haunt. We like going there because it not only serves an array of delicious desserts, but it also provides free wifi, and is a conducive place for meetings. Tuxedo has a good value all-day waffle set (S$10.80++) which consists of a waffle and a cup of coffee or tea. Top up with a scoop of ice cream (S$2++), or caramelised banana and chocolate sauce (S$3.50) to go along with the waffle.

By aesthetics sense, this would be the best-looking waffle. Perched on top of their fluffy waffles is a generous portion of the signature soft-serve frozen yogurt. With plenty of fruits sitting around the waffle (S$12.50) with Froyo, this is the choice for those who choose to skip the richness of ice cream and want to stick to something healthier.

Wimbly Lu has the best waffles ($8.50 with a scoop of ice cream) in town. we have had it on several occasions and we are impressed by its consistency – it is always crisp on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. It is very close to our definition of how a good waffle should be.

Our only gripe is the tiny portion of the ice-cream. It would be great if they gave a bigger scoop of the delicious homemade salted caramel ice cream.

23 JUMPIN

23 Jumpin is a new cafe located in an industrial building at Tai Seng, and it offers the best of both worlds for waffle lovers. Folks with sweet tooth will love the instagram-worthy Charcoal Waffle (S$7 or S$9 with a scoop of ice cream).

For those who like a good savoury waffle, 23 Jumpin has a Pizza Waffle (S$14). As the name suggests, it combines pizza and waffle – what a simple but clever idea! There are two flavours to choose from – mushroom with cheese and the classic Hawaiian pizza.
