April is an eventful month with the opening of many new restaurants, cafés, and eateries, livening the food scene while famed overseas brands bring in exclusive Singapore-only menus.

The most exciting news this April has to be the launch of the highly-anticipated Jewel Changi Airport. Its whopping 112 dining spots include big international food names that are shaking up the country such as popular American burger franchise Shake Shack and A&W. In other parts of the island though are bursts of excitement for bubble tea fans and café hoppers both in town and in the West of Singapore.

Here is our line-up of 10 openings in April for interesting dishes such as Laksa Soufflé and Cheesy Beef Dons as well as some greatly missed Coney Dogs.

A&W

This greatly missed American fast food chain has finally made a comeback after leaving us for over a decade and we hope that they are here to stay. A&W is open round the clock with a menu that is “the first of its kind in Asia”. It features over 25 items, including their bestselling Coney Dogs and Curly Fries, along with a Cream Cheese Burger from A&W Okinawa.

BURGERLABO

The folks behind The Naked Finn have introduced a burger joint to the West with the launch of BugerLabo. The owner, Ken, believes the soul of a burger is in its patty and their off-the-menu McEgg exquisitely encapsulates this idea. A fast favourite is their Chicken Burger that has a chargrilled chicken leg that you can wash down with a Madagascan Vanilla Milkshake.

EMACK & BOLIO’S

Emack & Bolio’s is an ice cream parlour from Boston that serves up insanely creamy scoops of ice cream. Get your tastebuds ready for a smorgasbord of interesting flavours with whacky names such as Moose Tracks No Sugar Added, Beantown Buzz, and Myers Rum Raisin. Other sweet treats include homemade chocolate bars, smoothies, milkshakes, and oreo cup.

GLYPH SUPPLY CO.

If you adore minimalist concept cafés with smooth and creamy coffees to go with some bakes, Glyph Supply Co. is a quiet gem in the newly renovated 111 Somerset. Their cakes and pastries are supplied by Carpenter & Cook and their Almond Croissant and Lemon Drizzle Loaf make yummy light bites.

HERIT8GE

Herit8ge is the third concept outlet by local player Fresh Fruits Lab which is one of our favourite cafés in Singapore. It draws inspiration from the 70s while paying homage to local flavours, dishing out local favourites with interesting and modern twists. Expect dishes such as Hainanese Cordon Bleu, Charsiu-licious, Peranakan Lamb Burger, and British Fish & Chips.

JENJUDAN

While we try to escape our bubble tea addiction, Jenjudan—which was born in Taipei’s Shihlin Night market—adds to the craze. Their chewy caramelised boba pearls are freshly prepared every two hours and you can enjoy them in Jenjudan’s signature Brown Sugar Boba Milk (S$5.20/S$6.50) or popular favourite Oreo Brown Sugar Boba Milk (S$5.50).

LÄDERACH CHOCOLATIER SUISSE

Top Artisanal Swiss Chocolatier, Läderach, has opened their first chocolate boutique in Southeast Asia. They are famous for their wide range of visually stunning A3-sized slabs of handcrafted chocolates that are air-flown in from Switzerland. They have 20 mouthwatering FrischSchoggi flavours with various ingredients such as crunchy nuts and fruity berries.

SHAKE SHACK

Famous American burger chain, Shake Shack, has launched their debut outlet here with a Singapore-exclusive menu. The ShackBurger (S$9.20 Single, S$12.70 Double) and Shack-cago Dog (S$6.50) are their quintessential items but Pandan Shake (S$7.80), Jewel Melaka, and It Takes Two To Mango are some sweet treats that are inspired by local flavours.

Sora Boru is a brand-new Japanese dining concept in the heart of Somerset with a wide range of casual Japanese one-dish meals from S$4.90 and up. Most attractive are their spicy Volcano Beef Don (S$11.90) or their cheesy Snow Beef Don (S$11.90). Otherwise, consider their customisable chirashi-don, curry rice bowls, and soba.

SOUFFLÉ

Soufflé is a French bistro with a selection of light and airy soufflés and one of their time-honoured classics is the sweet Grand Marnier et Orange Confites Soufflé (S$20++/S$28++). Their Laksa Soufflé (S$26++) takes on Singaporean flavours with fresh prawns and laksa sauce. They also have a line-up of regional French casseroles that are served fresh from the oven.
