Growing up, we never really had much of a choice in deciding who we wanted to travel with. For many, being stuck with annoying siblings as roommates was common, and family dramas would usually spiral out of control.

One of the perks of growing up is that you will have the opportunity to travel with your friends. However, this can be a tricky situation as no matter how close you are as friends, it is hardly the case that all of your travel preferences and objectives will align.

For those who are thinking of travelling with your friends, here are 10 Tips On How To Choose The Best Travel Partner you should definitely take into account when planning your next trip with friends.

#1 THE PLANNER VS. THE SPONTAENOUS

There are some who value planning and researching before the trip, and there are others who prefer to just “go with the flow” and “see what happens” upon reaching the travel destination.

Of course, there are benefits to both approaches. Travelling with someone who does adequate preparation before the trip would ensure that no time is wasted on needless activities, and this would also ensure that the time spent at your travel destination is used wisely and efficiently.

If you are looking for a trip where you do not have to spend that much time thinking about the little details of your journey, the spontaneous friend is for you. Your friend would typically be very adventurous and is willing to try anything and everything!

This also means you would not have to be bogged down by a tight schedule, and there will always be room for impromptu activities.

#2 THE EARLY RISER VS. THE SLEEP-IN

Sleep is perhaps one of the most precious things; well at least, to us, it is.

If you are not particular about starting your days early, and you would prefer having that few hours of rest, the sleep-in friend is for you.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

In contrast, if you are looking to start your day bright and early and to seize whatever precious time that you have at your travel destination, you should find a friend who shares the same view as you with regards to waking up early during travels.

However, it would be good to remind yourself that there is no right and wrong when it comes to wanting a bit more, or a bit less sleep. It is entirely up to a person’s personal preference and your friends do not deserve any frustration for not being in sync with your stance on sleeping (or not) during travels.

#3 THE NEAT VS. THE MESSY

Even back home, this would be one of the issues that your family (especially your mother), would harass you about on a daily basis.

Before travelling, find out whether your friend is a neat or a messy person. This could even be in reference to the style of unpacking during the trip, e.g. clothes thrown everywhere around the room versus the clothes being neatly hung up in the hotel’s cupboard.

As the both of you will be sharing a common living space, this is an extremely crucial factor to consider as it can either make or break your trip. If you have the habit of not keeping your belongings in order and your items are potentially going to be strewn all over the place, do your best to find a partner with the same living habits.

#4 THE NAPS VS. NO NAPS

In line with our earlier tip about sleep, there are some who have the habit of taking naps during the day, and some who only collapse at the end of the day.

One of the very obvious consequences of a person having the habit of taking naps is that your travel time would be disrupted midway, and this would also entail spending extra time on travelling back to the hotel. And if your travel partner is deprived of the nap that they enjoy daily, you may be walking alongside an angry grizzly bear that you will most likely be unable to placate for the rest of the day.

So, this is something to find out before you pick your travel partner(s)!

#5 THE GPS VS. THE TRUSTY OLD MAP

There is no point trying to deny this. We are all so incredibly dependent on the Internet. When it comes to travelling, the internet is an absolute lifesaver and with the aid of Google Maps and these travel apps, we are able to navigate with ease.

Despite the benefits of technology, there are some who are still insistent on the old ways of using a good ol’ city map.

Ensure that you iron this out with your partner prior to travelling with them as when the both of you are in a foreign land, acquiring the correct directions to your intended travel destinations would, in all honesty, be one of the largest obstacles that you will both have to face.

#6 THE TALKER VS. THE SILENT MEDITATOR

One can either love to talk and chat while travelling, or prefer to be immersed in self-reflection and keep to themselves.

As complete opposites, a talker may feel hurt when the silent meditator does not speak a word throughout most of the day. This may even lead to feelings of rejection and bitterness, which are emotions that will only seek to tear down the strong pillars of your friendship.

Before travelling, check with your travel partner about what type of travelling style they have. This, would prevent any potential misunderstandings or miscommunications between parties, whilst ensuring that the travel experience is a harmonious one without any room for conflict.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

#7 THE STREET FOODS VS. THE RESTAURANTS

Which do you love more, street food or restaurants? Now, everyone has different stomachs and different capacities when it comes to enjoying various foods.

If you are looking to try local and affordable cuisine, travelling with someone who is accustomed to eating in restaurants or more expensive food joints, is definitely not the right choice for you. Not only will your wallet feel the stretch, but your tolerance and patience will as well.

Opt for someone who is adventurous in nature, and is willing to go “down and dirty” to the streets of your travel destination, to get the best deals and most authentic food experience.

Conversely, if you are travelling to that city to check out certain cafes or restaurants, you should find someone who is willing to fork out additional monies to cover the costs of such eating plans, and will also enjoy the experience with you through the process.

#8 THE HISTORICAL/SCENIC VS. THE SHOPPING

There are some travellers who just hate seeing historical or scenic sights, and there are others who also hate shopping. Although you will wish to be able to enjoy the best of both worlds, it is undeniable that a person would tend to have a preference when it comes to the type of itinerary chosen for the travel.

As with how you enjoy certain activities with a certain group of friends, firstly, figure out what you desire to gather from your travel experience.

Once you have decided as to whether you are there to cultivate a deeper learning appreciation of the history, culture and geographical landscape of the travel destination, or whether you are there for a shopping trip, pick a partner who would tickle your fancy.

This would be the best way to ensure that both parties leave the trip feeling enriched in their own ways, whilst deepening the relationship shared between you and your travel partner.

#9 THE PHOTOGRAPHS VS. THE NO PHOTOGRAPHS

“No photographs, please.”

“Please take a picture of me.”

There are some who absolutely love being in front of the camera, and there are others who avoid it like they are running from a fire.

Once again, make sure that you know what are the personal preferences of your travel partner before travelling with them. No one would want an awkward situation during the trip, where you or your travel partner is forced into doing something photography-related that both are unwilling to undertake.

In the event that the both of you share different views as to photographs, this is not the end. Perhaps, it would be possible to work out an arrangement between the both of you, where you could assist your travel partner in photo-taking on the condition that she does not give you any trouble for not wishing to be in the photo.

#10 THE WIDE-EYED VS. THE UNIMPRESSED

The hearts of people are not content, and more often than not, they are jaded to the beauties that the world holds.

On the surface, it would definitely appear that travelling with the unimpressed would not be a very pleasant experience, as you would be subject to hearing them complain or moan about how a certain attraction has failed their expectations and so forth.

This may leave you rather dejected and make you feel that the trip and planning has all gone to waste since your friend is clearly not enjoying herself.

In contrast, the wide-eyed person may seem a good option, as they would never stop praising the artwork or historical site, due to their overwhelming appreciation of what the particular site holds.

This too can cause the feeling of annoyance to grow exponentially within you, as you would tend to be irritated by the constant giggles or exclamations by your travel partner, even when the sight is not that much of a big deal.

At the end of the day, simply consider which is the better of the two evils, and there – you have your travel partner right here waiting for you!

Internet Cafés in Singapore might not have very good reputations. Most of the time, they are just boring rented units equipped with computers, a working Wi-Fi connection, and perhaps some snacks and drinks to keep you satiated.

The Japanese, however, take their Internet Cafés very seriously. They are often associated with Manga Kissa (or Manga Cafés). @Bagus Gran Cyber Café in Shinjuku, Tokyo, is one such place, and a single visit there has completely changed our opinions of Internet Cafés.

The place is hygienic, comfortable, and they even provide private cubicles for napping! Here are a couple of reasons Why You Should Visit @Bagus Gran Cyber Café In Shinjuku Tokyo At Least Once In Your Life.

#1 THEY HAVE PRIVATE CUBICLES

Yes, you read that right. Unlike other regular Internet Cafés you probably know of, @Bagus Gran Cyber Café actually offers private, enclosed cubicles so you do not need to mix around with other strangers.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

These cubicles even come with mattresses, pillows, plugs, a lamp, and of course, a computer. It is little wonder that you will find locals sleeping in @Bagus overnight. The place is actually a good last minute accommodation option if you ever find yourself needing a place to stay without prior bookings.

There are even cubicles for women only, so it feels safer and more comfortable.

#2 THERE ARE FREE SNACKS

Corn soup, hot chocolate and or ice-cold milk—all for free? Sign us up!

@Bagus Gran Cyber Café offers free mini snacks and drinks via vending machines. If you are willing to pay a little more, you can even get hot fries, nuggets, wedges and pastries.

#3 THEY HAVE CLEAN TOILETS AND SHOWERS

The Japanese are very particular when it comes to hygiene, and @Bagus does not fall short in this aspect. The toilets are spick and span, and they offer shower rooms so you can wash up after spending a night at the café.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

#4 CHOOSE FROM A VARIETY OF MAGAZINES AND MANGA

Soek Seng 1954 Bicycle Cafe is a hidden cafe that is situated far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The owner is a vintage bike collector who proudly displays his beautiful vintage bicycles all around the cafe. Needless to say, we were all in awe of the cafe’s lovely interior.

Besides that, having a meal at this bike cafe is a unique experience in itself. Diners are able to watch private airplanes take off from Seletar Airport which is located just beside the bike cafe. How cool is that?!

However as one of the most ulu cafes in Singapore, is it really worth the effort to make all your way there for a meal? Well, read on to find out more!

Grab a seat outdoors during good weather and have your meal while admiring the private jets parked at Seletar Airport. If you are lucky, you may even catch sightings of planes taking off or landing!

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

If there is one dessert you must try at Acme Bar & Coffee, this has to be it. The moist brownie was warm and rich in chocolate, and complementing the ice cream wonderfully was the generous serving of huge oreo chunks.

Acme Bar & Coffee’s Cappuccino (RM15++/ S$5++) tasted just like any good cappuccino you would find elsewhere. We liked that it was creamy with a hint of bitterness from the espresso. Sugar cubes are given at the side for those who prefer it to be sweeter.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

For families who are large in size, it can take weeks of planning as tables fill up fast at popular restaurants. Even those who are having their reunion dinner at home have to spare much effort in grocery shopping and preparation of the dishes.

STAYING UP PAST MIDNIGHT

Parents usually urge their children to stay up until midnight after the reunion dinner to send away the old year and welcome the new. It is believed that the longer the children stay awake at night, the longer their parents will live in return.

FIREWORKS

While most people think that fireworks are just showstoppers for entertainment, there is actually meaning behind it. Fireworks were first introduced into the festival in China to drive away evil spirits.

It has been said that a mystical beast called Nian ate livestock on the eve of Chinese New Year. In order to chase it away, the people lit firecrackers in hopes that the machine gun-like sound from the firecrackers would scare it away.

EATING DUMPLINGS

Dumplings are a significance of good fortune and wealth as it resembles ingots, an ancient currency used by the Chinese during the old times. Hence, the more dumplings you eat, the more wealth you will accumulate for yourself!

Different stuffings in the dumplings have their own significance as well. The cabbage stuffing represents a well-off life for many years; having the mushroom stuffing supposedly increases your luck; beef stuffing is popular among stock investors as it symbolises strong economic growth and celery stuffing gives you wealth.

RED ENVELOPES

Red packets are a channel for sending good wishes and luck and it is given to bring happiness and blessing to those who are receiving it. It is considered rude to open your red packet in front of the giver.

CHINESE NEW YEAR SNACKS

Of course, Chinese New Year is not the same without its calories loaded snacks we all love and enjoy. Surely, you will find the same kind of snacks in almost all the households you visit and that is not of random occurrence.

Each snack has its own symbolic meaning which brings about well wishes for the upcoming year. If you are planning to host relatives and friends for this Chinese New Year, it is important to keep in mind the snacks you have to prepare!

With Christmas barely over, many of us are still feeling guilty about the Christmas feasts we had indulged in. It certainly doesn’t help that the Chinese New Year festivities are starting slightly earlier this year, with it being held at the end of January.

The first few days are usually celebrated with an endless amount of sinful, yet delicious food and snacks. However, it is still possible to maintain your waistline without going on an extreme diet.

Here are 7 Simple Ways To Survive Chinese New Year Feasting.

#1 TRY NOT TO VISIT ON AN EMPTY STOMACH

This is the same logic to why you should have a heavier breakfast to avoid having larger portions of lunch and dinner. Have a high protein breakfast which is likely to keep you feeling full longer.

You are less likely to be tempted by food if you are not feeling very hungry.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

#2 USE SMALLER PLATES

There is a limit to how much you can pile your food up on a plate. Hence the smaller your plate is, the less food you can take—unless you cheat and go back for more servings. Which you know you shouldn’t be.

#3 PICK FOOD THAT ARE RICH IN FIBRE

Food rich in fibre takes longer to be fully digested, therefore keeping you fuller or a longer period of time. Choose your food wisely if you do not want to end up snacking every 30 minutes.

Vegetables, fruits and whole grains are great fillers that do not give you unnecessary calories!

#4 LIMIT YOUR ALCOHOL INTAKE

Alcohol is actually good for health when consumed moderately. It reduces the risk of heart diseases and may also reduce your chances of getting a stroke.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

That being said, weight gain is just one of the few negative consequences should you over-consume alcoholic beverages. Try to limit yourself to only one glass for that night.

#5 SIT AWAY FROM THE FOOD

If you are one who is easily tempted, sit as far away as possible from the dining table or kitchen once you are done with dinner. This is especially important when there are so many traditional Chinese New Year snacks (which are loaded with calories) available.

You will find it a hassle to keep walking long distances to get the snack and may give up on snacking altogether.

When it comes to premium Japanese beef, most epicureans’ general knowledge are confined to just Wagyu. But did you know that under the category of Wagyu lies several more species?

Many restaurants—outside of Japan—use the word ‘Wagyu’ and ‘Kobe’ interchangeably, which is inherently wrong. Here’s the thing: Every Kobe is Wagyu, but not all Wagyu is Kobe.

Wagyu basically refers to any Japanese cattle breed, whereas Kobe, on the other hand, refers to a specific black Tajima cattle that have been raised under strict conditions in Hyogo Prefecture.

From Matsusaka Beef to Ohmi Beef, here are The 5 Different Types of Premium Japanese Beef Worth Splurging On.

Source: Rakuten

#1 IGA BEEF

As its name implies, the high-quality Iga Beef hails from Iga, Japan.

Iga’s mountainous climate makes an ideal environment for the rearing of cattle. Iga Beef was the go-to meat for Iga ninjas during wartime, where the warriors would consume it dried.

Iga Beef comes from Japanese black-haired heifers and are managed by the Iga Beef Cattle Production Promotion Council. Iga Beef, characterised by a distinct aroma and tenderness, is best eaten in a sukiyaki.

#2 KOBE BEEF

The Kobe Beef is a prized gourmet delicacy that has captured the attention of foodies all over the world. Boasting a melt-in-your-mouth texture and a high-fat marbling index, the flavourful beef has gone through careful rearing to attain such qualities.

These pedigree black Tajima cows are born, raised and slaughtered in the Hyogo Prefecture of Kobe. Upon slaughtering, these meats must still go through a series of tests before earning the Kobe Beef Certification.

Fun fact: Even professional basketball player Kobe Bryant was named after it.

#3 MATSUSAKA BEEF

While Kobe Beef is arguably the most famous Wagyu beef amongst foreigners, discerning diners and Japanese natives will know that Matsusaka Beef is actually cremè de la cremè. The ultra-delicate meat instantly melts in your mouth, leaves a sweet aftertaste and tastes beyond divine. Needless to say, it is the most expensive beef out of all types of beef in Japan.

Only the finest female calves are picked from the Kuroge breeds registered in the Matsusaka Beef Management System and reared under strict guidelines. While most cows are slaughtered at the 18-month mark, these virgin cattle will live till about three years old.

Additionally, they are massaged with distilled Shochu and fed beer about half a year before being processed.

Source: Japan National Tourism Organization

#4 OHMI BEEF

Out of all the wagyu beef listed here, the Ohmi Beef actually has the longest history—it dates back to over 400 years!

The soft marbled Ohmi Beef is prepared from Japanese black cattle reared around Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture; the cattle is fed a well-balanced nutritious diet and drinks from the lake’s clean water. The end result is an easily digestible fat viscous meat with a significantly lower melting point of 24.8 degree celsius compared to other wagyu beef.

Source: VKeong

#5 SAGA BEEF

Only black-haired Japanese cows—reared in an agricultural-association-designated farm in Saga Prefecture—with a BMS (Beef Marbling Standard) Rating of 7 and above can be certified an official Saga Beef.

These cows are raised under expert breeding techniques and experience no stress throughout their lifetimes to achieve a tender fine-grained marbled beef.

Penang is a food haven visited not just by the locals living in other parts of Malaysia but also tourists from abroad. Penang has seen a significant increase in tourists who make a special trip there just to indulge in delicious Penang street food.

But apart from eating, what else can you do there? In the past decade or so, the Malaysian government has been putting in extra effort to turn Penang into a place of interest with plenty of activities for everyone.

And if you are on a budget trip, here are 7 Free Things To Do In Penang.

#1 VISIT THE CHINESE TEMPLES

If you have visited Penang before, you would know that Chinese is the predominant race there. With its rich Chinese history, there are many places of worship catering to believers.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Two of the most well-known temples there are Kek Lok Si and Snake Temple where you get to see real snakes coiling on tree branches. Although you may feel sceptical about visiting such a place, rest assured that the snakes are pretty docile and appear to be half asleep most of the time.

Photo Credit: Asia Places To See

#2 HIKE UP PENANG HILL

Formerly used as a retreat during the colonial periods, Penang Hill is now a popular tourist destination. Escape from the sweltering heat of Georgetown by hiking up the hill to enjoy the cooling temperatures.

Chill your day away in a tea kiosk or have lunch at one of the restaurants up on the hill. Of course, you should also take plenty of pictures of the magnificent view overlooking the Penang Bridge.

#3 WALK ALONG GURNEY DRIVE

Many will tell you that Gurney Drive is a touristy area you should avoid but we feel otherwise. Even if you are not a fan of crowds, this is a place that you have to go—especially if it is your first time in Penang.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The long stretch of road is flanked by a beach on one side and grand shopping malls on the other. You can visit the place in the early morning or night time when temperatures are cooler and there is a gentle sea breeze.

#4 EXPLORE PENANG STREET ART

Now, this is something you must not miss. Georgetown is famous for having beautiful wall paintings that reflect the culture and life of the locals and they are protected under the UNESCO Heritage Site.

And you might recall seeing many OOTDs taken against this iconic “wall of Penang”.

#5 TAKE A STROLL AT BOTANIC GARDENS

Located on Jalan Air Terjun in Georgetown, the Botanic Gardens is also referred to as the Waterfalls Gardens. This huge nature space contains plants of many species and has been around since 1884 when the British first set it up for the public to enjoy.

Vacations are supposedly a time for you to enjoy some quiet time and unwind from the stress that you have been facing at work or in school.

Road trips sure are fun and exciting if you are going with friends. But parents who are thinking of going for a trip together with their children may find it more of a chore than a relaxing holiday. The long hours in a car and having to entertain the kids during the journey are some of the typical “problems”.

Although hiccups along the trip are unpredictable, there are still ways to minimise a meltdown from happening. Here are some tips on how to keep you and your young ones happy throughout the journey!

#1 RENT A COMFORTABLE CAR

Since you will be spending long hours in the car, it is one of the most important considerations you have to make. If your kids are going to be cooped up in an uncomfortable car, chances are that the trip will turn out to be quite a miserable experience.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Make sure you do your homework before making a decision as you would need to rent a car that is suitable for your family and whether it fits into your budget as well. The sport utility vehicle (SUV) is a popular choice among families as the car is the top choice for rugged off-road adventure. Recreational vehicles (RV) may be suitable for families who want to get around and still be able to have ice-cream from the fridge or using the toilet without stopping for a break.

Some cars offer more than just space and comfort but also additional bonuses like entertainment, GPS units that are able to point out traffic cameras and safety features like blind spot warning.

Additional tip: Check your car before driving off to ensure that there are no flat tyres and engine breakdowns. The last thing you want to happen is to be stranded in the middle of the road with a broken vehicle.

#2 BRING ALONG SOME SNACKS

Do not belittle these packets of dried fruits and cereals because they will be your lifesaver when the children simply refuse to eat anything at the restaurant you have decided to stop by for dinner.

Pack some healthy snacks like raisins, granola and even fresh fruits but make sure that you check the sugar level first. Trust us when we say, you do not want them to be high on energy throughout the trip.

Additional tip: Electrolyte water hydrates faster and stays in the body longer. That means lesser toilet stops!

#3 ENTERTAINMENT FOR THE KIDS

Some parents are fine letting their children play with electronic gadgets while others not so much. We understand that sometimes it is difficult not to give in when your child requests for the smartphone or tablet but since it is a road trip, maybe you can consider having a range of entertainment that does not involve technology.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Younger kids may like crayons and colouring books or fun car games like having a spelling bee. Older children can be encouraged to do journal jotting, having them write down what they see along the way and collecting something small along the way such as postcards at rest stops or a seashell from the beach.

Not only do such activities make the car ride seem shorter, it is great for family bonding time!

#4 REST STOPS ARE IMPORTANT

Even if you are driving a RV, it is important to take regular breaks every now and then to freshen up. While it is good to keep track of time, it may not be a good idea to follow your schedule too tightly.

Frustration may arise among family members if there is too much pressure. Instead, have some breakfast or go grab coffee and take it as a chance to explore new places that you have not been to.

#5 FIRST AID KID

Apart from rest stops, there won’t be any Watsons or Guardians for you to purchase medication when your kid has a sudden fever. A first aid kit is always important as you never know when a situation might arise.

Have the usual medications for fever, stomach upset, antiseptic ointment, bandages, plasters, wet tissue and toilet paper ready in the kit.

Photo Credit: Jessie on a journey

#6 DOWNLOAD THE NECESSARY APPS

Technology can be useful in its own ways and save you from unnecessary troubles such as getting caught in a traffic jam.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The few apps that you should have in your device include Waze, which is an app that will help you navigate around traffic jams and construction delays; Gas Buddy that tells you when and where to buy gas and how to get the best value out of it; and AroundMe to keep yourself updated with the latest information on restaurants, banks, hotels and movie schedules that are near you.

#7 BE SPONTANEOUS

Along the way, you will pass by many places that were not included in your planning list but always be open to new suggestions given by people you meet along the way or overheard from the local radio DJ. You may end up loving those places more than the ones you planned to go!

#8 BE REALISTIC

Preparing yourself with the above tips are not a given that the trip will be entirely smooth sailing. Going on a family road trip is not like racing for The Amazing Race, so don’t over plan or decide on a minimum of eight hours drive every day.

Have ample breaks in between the car rides and let your kids stretch their legs at nearby parks or playgrounds. Once they use up their energy with all that running, it will be easier on you when they sleep in the car during the journey.

Lastly, have fun and try not to stress out too much!

Kasa is a 52-seater restaurant in Wan Chai, Hong Kong that specialises in Cantonese fusion cuisine. Look forward to East-meets-West dishes that will definitely pique your interest. It is also worth mentioning that every dish at Kasa is MSG-free.

Founder Adrian Lo Chun-shing has a vision of serving traditional Hong Kong classic delicacies reimagined and together with chef Ciro Tam, they have nailed it with their unique creations. Think burgers comprising sunny-side-up eggs and Japanese char siu sandwiched between pineapple buns and lattes served in oriental tea cups.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

European Flats
Native to Europe, as per its apt name, the European Flat oyster is usually large and quite rare compared to other commercial types. They have their own unique taste that differs greatly from the rest—rich and extremely flavourful.

Olympia Oysters
The Olympia oysters are tiny and are almost extinct right now, hence it is the least common type of oyster found in this day and age.

HOW TO EAT OYSTERS

Oysters are meant to be slurped whole. However, do you know what the tiny fork given is for? A part of the oyster is attached to the shell, and the purpose of the tiny fork is to release it from the grip so that you can eat your oysters with ease.

To really taste how amazing your oyster is, skip any extra ingredients completely. However, if you must, add a dash of lemon, cocktail sauce, vinaigrette or horseradish just to amplify and complement the oyster, without completely masking its natural taste.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Also, a tip for beginners is to not chew the oyster so much; in fact, you can swallow them after one or two bites.

WHAT THEY ARE BEST PAIRED WITH

Some popular pairings are with Chablis, Dry Champagne, Muscadet and other crisp, dry white wines such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, or Guinness and other stouts.

Dry wines or champagne are usually recommended for raw oysters and for the latter, the bubbling of the drink complements the oysters really well.

“The first man gets the oyster, the second man gets the shell.” – Andrew Carnegie.

However, if you are consuming cooked oysters, go for some sparkling wine or Chardonnay. Also, if you are a fan of stout, a pint of Guinness goes seriously well with fresh, unseasoned oysters, freshly-shucked.

BENEFITS OF OYSTERS

Besides the obvious sexual health benefits, oysters are actually great because they have 16 grams of protein per 170g serving, are rich in vitamins C and B-12 and they are also loaded with zinc, selenium, and iron.

Oysters are also a huge source of beneficial cholesterol, antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and water. This can boost your body’s overall health.
