With the ubiquity of Japanese restaurants and kiosks all around the island, it is pretty easy to suss out a decent spot to get your urgent ramen and sushi fix.
In Singapore, there is a growing number of Japanese eateries that are catering to the expansive Muslim market. Just as delicious, these eateries dole out sushi, sashimi, udon, donburi, ramen and other Japanese gastronomical delights that are halal-certified.

What is a trip to the Land Of The Rising Sun without slurping on a sensational bowl of ramen? Those with dietary restrictions may find it a tad tricky to enjoy ramen due to the complexity of this dish—from its hearty broth, numerous ingredients to the types of meat used which more often than not involves the addition of pork.

Muslim travellers would be pleased to know that there is a steady increase in the number of eateries offering halal ramen to cater to the growing Muslim tourist population. This implies that either the ramen shop-owner is a Muslim or the restaurant strictly uses only halal meat for its dishes and seafood stock for its broth.

Take your pick from this specially-curated list and indulge in a heartwarming bowl of oishii ramen with your loved ones. While you are at it, do not forget to add some chilli paste for that extra punch! Here are 6 Best Halal Ramen Eateries In Tokyo For A Taste Of Japan.

Located just outside Shinjuku station, this particular ramen joint specialises in seafood-based ramen broth. They take pride in their signature Shio Ramen which is essentially a light-based soup—usually either chicken or fish-flavoured. The clear broth is really aromatic and offers something different to the palate.

Even though this place is not halal-certified, they do offer Muslim-friendly options for Muslim travellers. Since they open until late daily, you can even have this for supper as its piping hot light broth is perfect for satisfying those midnight hunger pangs.

Aromatic broiled chicken is used as a substitute for the usual pork fillet in ramen broth and the ramen stall uses only halal ingredients.

Sitting along the old-fashioned shophouses that line North Bridge Road is The Dim Sum Place. You won’t be able to miss it because it has this eye-catching bright orange awning.

This place doles out good Cantonese dim sum with a creative local twist that will allow you to sample a unique mix of flavours in a single meal setting.

The best part? It is halal-certified so our Muslim friends can enjoy the dim sum, too!

From the outside, this halal-certified eatery does not appear big enough to accommodate large crowds. But step in and you will realise how spacious the restaurant is.

We opted for a mixture of classic dim sum choices as well as some unique creations that are not commonly seen.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
style="display:block; text-align:center;"

For starters, we attempted the Chicken Siew Mai (S$3.90/3 pcs) and Pan Fried Taro Cake (S$2.90/3pcs). The plating of the dishes was done really nicely. The Chicken Siew Mai was tasty and the sweet chilli dip that went along added a nice punch to the medley of flavours.

The Pan Fried Taro Cake arrived a tad dry but the chilli sauce made it better.

The next two dishes got us super excited—namely the Vermicelli Roll With Beef Rendang (S$8.90) and the Vermicelli Roll With Shrimp & Spring Onion (S$7.90). These essentially act as a modern representation of the typical Chee Cheong Fun.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
style="display:block; text-align:center;"
data-ad-layout="in-article"
data-ad-format="fluid"
data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805"
data-ad-slot="3885138539"></ins>

The Beef Rendang was tender and the spices really shone through the dish. The Shrimp option was superb and the special light sauce paired well with the crystal-like skin of the rolls.

We also tried the Congee with Shredded Chicken (S$6.90). Albeit its simple presentation, the stock of the porridge was the main star. Scoop up the warm congee and top it off with the shredded chicken. You will find this dish highly comforting.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
style="display:block; text-align:center;"
data-ad-layout="in-article"
data-ad-format="fluid"

The Molten Salted Egg Pandan Buns (S$4.90) and TDSP Cheese Tarts (S4.90/2pcs) were just what we needed to end the meal on a sweet note. The pandan buns did not have molten salted egg oozing out like how we’d like it, though.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"

#4 PEZZO

At Pezzo, choices are certainly abundant. You can opt to get a single slice starting from S$4.50 and enjoy a small discount when you purchase three slices for S$12.90. A six-slice regular pizza will cost S$24.90 but the best part is that you can pick six different flavours—one for each slice.

Talking about variety, Pezzo clearly does not hold back and ascertains “a carnival in every bite”. With fun, unorthodox flavours being introduced seasonally, keep your eyes peeled for something a tad more adventurous.

Smoky Tandoori Chicken is the current trendy choice featuring a charcoal dough and velvety butter sauce, topped with perfectly-spiced tandoori chicken chunks—yum!

Coming in as the underdogs, Pizzaboy is still relatively new and doles out pizza options at very reasonable prices. A six-inch pizza starts from S$4.50, a 10-inch for S$10.90 and the largest option of a 12-inch pizza at S$12.90.

Even with the attractively low prices, the pizzas are of great quality. The homemade original PB Pizza sauce coupled with generous toppings make every bite worth relishing. Go for the PB Power Balls and Ultimate Cheesy Garlic Chicken. These two are clearly the front-runners!

Pizza Hut is literally a part of most Singaporean’s nostalgic childhood. The frequent promotions (yes, all those flyers in the mailbox), numerous commercials and catchy jingle for their hotline are things all of us can relate to.

One significant point about Pizza Hut is with reference to their Hot Pouches that ensures your pizzas arrive hot from the oven. Choose from classics, favourites and speciality ones or settle for their array of hot deals.

The hipster neighbourhood of Bugis abounds with chic cafes, favourite local eateries and Instagram-worthy desserts. The area surrounding the majestic Sultan Mosque, in particular, is where you can find an unbeatable range of drool-worthy Halal desserts.

This list has got you covered with artisan pastries and divine cupcakes to mouthwatering buttermilk waffles. Oh yes, did we forget to mention the revered Chendol-flavoured soft-serve?

Brace yourselves for these eight Halal dessert spots around the Sultan Mosque that will redefine your idea of an unforgettable sweet treat.

When you step into this chic Halal-certified bakery cafe, the perfume of freshly baked goodies is enough to tempt you into second helpings. The array of novel creations—from the zesty Sticky Apricot Pistachio Cake to the Crackly Top Brownie—will leave you spoilt for choice.

Their desserts’ exceptional quality is maintained through the use of all-natural, wholesome ingredients. The generous cake toppings, moist sponge layers and made-from-scratch sauces will make for a wonderful tea time treat.

This Muslim-owned hidden gem requires just a tad more effort to find but do not let its simple facade deceive you. We were absolutely mind-blown by their solid Nutella Cheesecake (S$8). The balance in texture between the smooth top, creamy middle and crispy biscuit base is surreal! Another Nutella must-try is the Nutella Snowy Brioche. One word—irresistible.

For those who are not fans of this heavenly hazelnut spread (are there even any?), fret not for there are other tantalising options for you to sink your teeth into. Mixed Fruits Pavlova, Thai Milk Tea Cheesecake and Pandan Gula Melaka slices are just some to keep your eyes peeled for.

Take note though, their bakes do sell out fast. The earlier you are there, the more options you have (and the bigger the dilemma).

With over 100 cupcake flavours till date, the owners at Fluff Bakery are not afraid to experiment. This humble Muslim-owned cupcakery started back in 2013 and has garnered a huge following, explaining the frequent snaking lines during peak hours.

This Muslim-owned artisan European bakery is the brainchild of the team behind Fika Swedish Cafe and Bistro. Though it focuses more on takeaways, you will not be disappointed by the plethora of authentic loaves, pastries, tarts and cakes.

The main star: Swedish Semla buns (S$5.90). We love how the fluffy buns are generously filled with almond paste and light, fluffy whipped cream. The Blackforest Croissant puts up a tough fight with its decadent raspberry jam filling and generous chocolate shavings garnishing the top. You will have to try them out and be your own judge for this one.

#5 KUMOYA [HALAL]

As with every Japanese eatery, presentation and aesthetics are key. This is evident in Kumoya, a quaint cafe that doles out too-pretty-to-eat desserts. It becomes somewhat a sin to dig into the delectable treats. The well-crafted eclairs (S$3/piece) and kawaii yoghurt parfaits (S$15.90) will leave you squealing with delight. Alternatively, the colourful macarons (S$2.80/piece) and sweet pancakes (S$14.90) will leave your bellies full and hearts content.

The Yuzu Yoghurt Parfait is one you should look out for; the sublime combination of the light souffle cheesecake with the plain soft-serve yoghurt and yuzu sauce is sensational.

Top up S$3 and you can upgrade to a waffle with double scoops of ice cream and two toppings. Between the red velvet waffle and the buttermilk one, we find the former more appealing. Of course, if you cannot decide, tuck into the half-half option instead.

As for ice cream flavours, challenge your palate to take on the more unconventional picks—Taro Yam & Coconut, Root Beer Float, Earl Grey & Fig and Cotton Candy Bubble Gum.

When the blazing heat in Kampong Glam starts getting to you, turn to this extravagant chendol soft-serve delight (S$6) sold at Muslim-owned ice cream parlour Overrun.SG. Durian lovers, you can jazz up your soft-serve with creamy durian pulp for an additional dollar.

The layers go like this—chendol soft-serve followed by Gula Melaka syrup and another swirl of soft-serve that is eventually sprinkled with green pandan jelly and coconut flakes. You get one final drizzle of that sweet Gula Melaka sauce.

Watch out for their weekly specials! We have seen Snickers, Ondeh Ondeh, Mint Choco Chip Crumbs, Thai Mango Coconut and good ol’ Bandung. What fancy option could they be introducing next?
