Skyve Elementary Bistro & Bar

Skyve Bistro

I had brunch at Skyve Elementary Bistro & Bar a few weeks ago, and I fell in love with the place the moment I stepped inside. The folks behind Table 66 took over the space which used to belong to District 10 Bistro, and I have to say that I am very impressed by the way they transformed the interior.

It was done in a classy and elegant manner, with glass panels letting in lots of sunlight during the day. I can imagine it to be a very pretty and romantic restaurant when night falls.

The bistro is divided in half. On one side is a casual lounge; on the other, is the bright, airy space which is perfect for a lazy weekend brunch. Skyve Bistro and bar is my new favourite brunch place in Singapore.

Paul Bakery in Singapore

Paul Bakery

Paul Bakery has opened in Singapore with much fanfare, and it’s not difficult to understand why the French boulangerie/patisserie is packed with customers everyday.

For those who have been to Europe, Paul Boulangerie is the place for them to relive those wonderful memories of having a warm croissant and a cup of coffee during winter. For others who have heard much about Paul from their friends, the new restaurant in Singapore gives them the chance to try something before they go Europe.

The question on everyone’s mind is no doubt whether Paul Boulangerie in Singapore is the same as Europe.

Hinoki Restaurant China Square Central

Hinoki Sushi

It’s always nice to randomly walk into a new restaurant, order without doing any prior research, and leave as a happy customer. And we did just that at Hinoki Japanese Restaurant at China Square Central.

After our meeting at Raffles Place, Velda, Beatrice and I were initially going for Ramen at Biefu restaurant, but in the end we decided to be adventurous and try out a new place. We walked around in the area, and chanced upon Hinoki Japanese Restaurant.

It is a small space with bar seats and tables, and we like that it is very cosy. The food at Honoki Restaurant is not cheap, but for the quality, it is worth the price.

Bar and Billiard Room Raffles Hotel

Bar and Billiard room

Whenever people ask me to recommend buffets in Singapore, even before they open their mouth, I know exactly what’s coming – they want a suggestion for a restaurant that has a good and cheap buffet.

I’ve repeated this many times, but it’s almost impossible to find a good international buffet that is budget-friendly. You can usually find the best buffets at 5 star hotels, but the problem is they usually come with a price tag.

The thing about life is sometimes you get something that you never expect. I was surprised when I received an email from a reader, asking me to recommend a good buffet, and budget is not an issue. Now, that’s interesting.

I suggested Bar and Billiard Room at the iconic Raffles Hotel as I feel that it is definitely one of the better buffets in Singapore.

Pierre Herme Macarons

Pierre Hereme Macarons

Stepping into Pierre Hermé in Paris for the first time was a magical experience.

Akin to taking the plane for the very first time; reading the first book in the Harry Potter series; the first time guys put on a tuxedo suit, or for the ladies, getting their first pair of heels when they reach 17; and finally meeting your idol in person – it is one of those life changing first experiences that makes you go “wow, oh my god.”
