New indie cafes are sprouting everywhere, and if you are on a quest to find good coffee in Singapore, you should definitely drop by Jimmy Monkey Cafe & Bar, an Australian-style Cafe at One-North Residences.
The owner of the place Michael, is from Australia, and after living here for the past ten years, he decided to go on a journey to bring the Melbourne coffee experience to Singapore.

I confess that I am constantly thinking about food. It’s the first (“What should I have for breakfast?) and last (“Should I have some snacks before I hit the sack?”) thought on my mind everyday. My relationship with food is complicated with many issues that involve plenty of decision-making, and I am sure that I am not alone in nursing this food fever.
Below I have included three reasons on how, and why you should end your love-hate relationship with food.
Robertson Quay is my favourite dining area in Singapore – in fact, I go there almost every week. One of the places that I went to a while back is Toby’s Estate, a renowned coffee chain from Australia.
I first learnt about Toby’s Estate through some friends. They were raving about the coffee, even to the extent of proclaiming it as one of the best coffee joints in town. When I was meeting Beatrice and Velda for brunch, I suggested going to Toby’s Estate, and while the food did not blow us away, the coffee was excellent, and the company was even better.
The dining landscape in Singapore has changed remarkably in the last few years and it is exciting to be here at this time.
On the contrary, despite what some people might think, the arrival of big-name-chefs have benefited the food & beverage industry as they provide invaluable experience, and at the same time, they create healthy competition that “forces” other restaurants to up their game.
Over at Osia Restaurant in Resorts World Sentosa, we have Chef Scott Webster from Australia who is a consultant to the restaurant. He plays a big role in influencing the menu along with Chef de Cuisine Douglas Tay.
The restaurant has recently started a ‘Cooking with Friends’ series, where Chef Scott Webster would invite his chef friends to cook in Singapore. For the first instalment back in July, Chef Chris Taylor from Perth created a delectable menu with inspirations from Western Australia, including yellow tail kingfish, sea urchin roe, and truffle.
Taipei is a city that is known for its amazing street food – beef noodles, mee sua, stinky tofu, chicken cutlet, Taiwanese sausages, and more. But at the same time, it also has many good restaurants and trendy cafes that are worth checking out.

I’ve always heard about the afternoon tea at Chihuly Lounge, Ritz-Carlton Millenia, but for some reason, I never had the chance to try it. When I finally went there recently for an afternoon indulgence, I must say that they did not disappoint – if anything, exceeded expectations.

Let’s face it. Who doesn’t love pretty things? I first saw the rainbow cake a few years back and never ever thought that I would one day be attempting to make it. I have to say that this cake, till date, is the most challenging one ever for me. I’m not sure why, but making a 3-layered devil food cake sure looks easy-peasy compared to this.
This is a huge monstrous cake that requires quite a lot of time and patience. But if you feel up to it, and would just like to create some kitchen magic, go ahead and give it a try! Sometimes all we need is just a little magic to spice things up.
