Guide to Everton Park Neighbourhood Singapore

Everton Park Guide

Everton Park is quickly becoming the latest it neighbourhood. Some call it the new Tiong Bahru, and it is not difficult to see why. Since Nylon Coffee Roasters and Grin Affair started here in 2012, this quiet HDB neighbourhood has been drawing foodies to explore the area.

Today, there are eight cafes in this enclave, and we won’t be surprised if more cafes and shops choose to open here in the future. You know that Everton Park is officially cool when hotelier Loh Lik Peng – who is behind many boutique hotels and restaurants in off-the-radar neighbourhoods – has also helped to set up a cafe here.

Here is our guide to the Everton Park neighbourhood.

20 Highlights From Apple Vacations Singapore 8D6N Osaka, Mie & Wakayama

Apple Vacations

Japan is one of our favourite countries. Melody and I travel to Tokyo frequently because it is such a buzzing and lively city. Kyoto, on the other hand, is one with so much hidden charm, so much to discover, so much to experience and take home.

Besides these two major cities, we had always wanted to visit the countryside and to experience a different side of Japan. So, when Apple Vacations Singapore www.applevacations.com.sg approached us to organise a ladyironchef x Apple Vacations Singapore tour especially for our readers, we said yes immediately! Apple Vacations Singapore specialises in mainly Japan tours, and with their in-depth knowledge of the country, they are an ideal partner that we can work with to make this trip possible.

Wakayama

Back in may, we travelled to Japan to curate the best of Mie, Wakayama and Osaka. And come November, we will be leading a group tour to revisit our favourite picks. It will be a 8D6N trip, and we promise nothing but fun. And good food.

Apple Vacations Singapore is offering an early bird discount of S$200/pax (valid for the first 10 signups) for readers of ladyironchef. Should you be keen to join us for this adventure, kindly email [email protected] or call +65 6533 5161 to book your seat.

Below, we share 20 highlights from the itinerary that is finalised by Apple Vacations Singapore and us, and this is what you can expect from our upcoming tour to Mie, Wakayama and Osaka.

How Restaurants Are Using Technology To Improve Efficiency

Restaurant iPad menu

As the labour shortage situation in Singapore worsens and more restaurants are tapping on older Singaporean workers as an alternative labour source, it’s a trend to use technology to make jobs easier, smarter and safer, while providing a more enjoyable dining experience for consumers.

From iPad menus for customers to place their orders, to artificial intelligence cooking machines that can reduce manpower, an automated queuing system which simplifies the process and mobile ordering solutions for staff to speed up the ordering process, here is a look at some of the innovations that restaurants in Singapore have undertaken.

Westin Singapore Room

That is when we checked out The Westin Singapore lately, and the stay was one to deepen our loyalty to the Starwood baby. You know, familiarity is really endearing, always and forever. It is the assurance that we can always count on The Westin team to give us a holistic stay-out experience.

Daruma Kushikatsu Osaka

Daruma Kushikatsu

If we tell you there is a kind of fried food that you can eat a lot without feeling sick from the grease, will you jump in joy? And if we top that up with Japanese beer, will life be a bed of roses?

Now, please do yourselves that favour and go to Osaka for Kushikatsu. If the Japanese term is baffling, well – think skewers of all sorts, coated with light batter, then deep fried to something even lovelier than golden brown. And we swear it is not like your usual fried food that is always overly oily and sickeningly fatty. Okay, we cannot promise it is not fattening but if you want to do fried food, do it in an enjoyable way, yes?

Kushikatsu is famous in Osaka and is known to be one of the identities of that city’s food scene. A typical outlet is usually simple and fuss-free, and usually nothing else but skewers and drinks. You have your chicken and beef, vegetables like brinjal and capsicums, eggs and mushrooms… and the list goes on. Almost anything that can be skewed will taste awesome. Even better when downed with a glass of icy cold beer.

Daruma is a popular chain in Osaka and every branch is always packed with loyal patrons – locals and tourists alike. Nothing too fanciful about the place, just your regular fast food lookalike, with a team of exuberant youngsters, and a fuss-free ordering and serving system that is quite an eye-opener for first-timers. Well, actually, the technology in Japan is eye-opening to say the least, and the world should be inspired.

10 Reasons Why Dancing Crab by TungLok is a Heaven for Seafood Lovers

Dancing Crab

Dancing Crab (www.dancingcrab.com.sg) at The Grandstand is the latest project by the TungLok Group. The whole concept is that you eat directly from the table with your bare hands – of course, you can use utensils or eat from the plates, but we won’t encourage that because it takes the fun away.

It goes without saying that eating at Dancing Crab is a messy affair. Waiters line the tables with a plastic sheet, then bring you your seafood combo and other yummies, and pour them all on the table for you to pig out ala communal style.

Dancing Crab Singapore

What makes Dancing Crab a place we can return to again and again is its varied menu of seafood dishes featuring imports from all over the world. There will always be something to look forward to, whether you are a fan of crabs or you are craving fish. And the best part is its super affordable price tags that we have no complaints about. Yes, not all seafood places charge exorbitantly, and Dancing Crab is one of them. Now, it is legit to eat prawns, lobster rolls, crab cakes and mussels every week!

If you love seafood, and don’t mind getting your hands dirty, Dancing Crab is the place to dine at with your family or a group of friends. Here are 10 reasons why Dancing Crab is a heaven for seafood lovers.

[ Giveaway ] We are also giving away S$400 Dancing Crab dining vouchers. Leave a comment below, and share this post on your Facebook timeline to win. More details on the giveaway at the end of this post.
