What was once an unassuming-looking buffet restaurant that looks borderline passé is now a swanky space with a botanical-themed decor. Of pastel pink hues, custom wallpapers that feature the ginger plant, rattan fans and wooden furniture, the facelift has successfully transformed the buffet restaurant into what we would like to think is one of the prettiest buffet restaurants in Singapore right now.

With lots of natural sunlight streaming in via the floor-to-ceiling windows, the restaurant is brightly lit and boasts a cheery vibe during the day. At night, it transforms into a cosy space with its warm lights, and the rattan fans add a nostalgic charm to the otherwise modern decor. Very well thought interior design, and it makes dining there even more pleasant!

Dining restrictions have been relaxed and buffet services are allowed to resume. This is wonderful news for people like us who can’t say no to a buffet meal! For the Mother’s Day buffet, the highlight for us was the Coconut Trio with Bird’s Nest. Every diner gets one serving of this, and it can both be an appetiser and a dessert. Bird’s nest is steeped in coconut water and double-boiled for a fuller flavour, and then served cold. We slurped up every sip of it!

Another favourite was the Steamed Herbal Prawns. You know how some dishes don’t need any new interpretations? Just a traditional, honest recipe to cook something simple but well – and that is the Steamed Herbal Prawns in this case. Fresh, plump prawns are soaked in an array of herbs. Savour the delectable broth and sweet, juicy prawns.

Soup lovers will be treated to unlimited helpings of the Free Range Chicken Collagen Soup with Codfish. It is light in flavour, but oh so nutritious.

There is a hearty porridge option that both young and old will enjoy, and it’s the Lobster Five-Grain Porridge. What is otherwise just a porridge dish is elevated with the addition of lobsters, and yes, you can get unlimited helpings of this too!

There are also vegan options for the Mother’s Day buffet spread, and they include the Vegan Meatball Stew and Vegan Satay. Can we take a moment to appreciate the Vegan Meatball Stew?! They tasted fantastic and you wouldn’t even be able to tell that they aren’t actually meat. We loved the tangy tomato-based sauce so much and the texture of the roasted vegetables.

Regulars to St Regis Singapore will be familiar with their signature restaurants like Yan Ting and Brasserie Les Saveurs, but not many people have been to La Brezza, a poolside restaurant that serves fine trattoria-style Italian cuisine.

On weekends, they have a Prosecco brunch ($98++/pax with prosecco, $68++/pax for non-alcohol) that features an enticing spread of antipasti and cheese. That is not all. The European bistro at Quayside Isle is a sleek and streamlined version of the original Picotin at Bukit Timah.

Sky on 57 by Chef Justin Quek has one of the best views of Singapore’s skyline, and if you are looking for a restaurant to impress your girlfriend’s mom, make a call to reserve a table here.

The business luncheon menu ($50 for 3 course, or $60 for 4 course) is actually very reasonable. It offers some of Justin Quek’s signature dishes like Foie Gras Xiao Long Bao, Beef Broth, Singapore Sakura Chicken RIce, and Kaya Macarons. For the excellent view and good food, this is one of the best set lunches you can get in town. Note: There is a minimum spend of $50/pax during lunch, and $100/pax during dinner.

Todai

For an all-you-can-eat-stuff-your-face international buffet, go to Todai. The seafood and sushi buffet restaurant offers a huge variety of food ranging from sushi, to BBQ meat, to Korean food and desserts. What makes customers go back again and again, however, is the Alaskan crab. Free-flow giant crab legs? I am sold. On Mother’s Day 2013, both lunch and dinner buffets are priced at $68++/pax.
