Spearheaded by owner, baker and theatre actor Juwanda Hassim, The Fabulous Baker Boy is relaunching their multi-concept F&B brand at the Aliwal Arts Centre in January 2021 with a bigger 70-seater space and expanded menu.

Formerly located at the foothills of Fort Canning, The Fabulous Baker Boy closed its previous premise due to the Covid-19 situation. Fans of the bakery café will be thrilled to know that they are making a comeback next year.

The artisanal baked goods menu will be expanded to include sourdough breads, croissants, quiches, danishes and cookies as well as The Fabulous Baker Boy’s signature range of Diva and Divo cakes. There will be at any one time 14 different cakes to choose from.

The Fabulous Baker Boy’s all-day brunch and lunch menu will also feature new items such as Pumpkin and Ricotta Ravioli with burnt butter and sage, and Sourdough Pizzas. Popular favourites such as Corn Beef Hash, Chicken & Waffles and Ju’s Prawn Pasta will still be available on the menu.

The past few days have been filled with a string of bad news. With the closure of popular patisserie Antoinette and seafood restaurant The Pelican, there can’t possibly be anything else worse, right? Sadly, we are wrong.

The Fabulous Baker is the next dining establishment to announce its closure and their last day will be on 11 July 2020.

Before the restaurant closes, they will be serving their well-loved food and bakes for the last time.

They will be reopening their doors on 27 June 2020, Saturday and will be open from Tuesdays to Sundays from 8.30am to 5pm till their final day on the 11th of July. You can also order from them online and they will be providing islandwide delivery.

If you’ve been a loyal fan of The Fabulous Baker Boy, do pop by one last time to support them before they close for good.

Located directly opposite Liang Court in The Foothills, The Fabulous Baker Boy is a cosy and homely space where you can go for an intimate gathering with friends or a quiet dinner with your partner. The prices here are reasonable. You can get a Beef Pastrami Sandwich for $10, while main course such as pies and pastas are below $20. Plus, they have very good home-style cakes.

On weekdays, The Fabulous Baker Boy serves simple comfort food such as sandwiches, soup, salad, pasta and pot pie. They also have a weekend brunch menu which features pancakes, eggs benedict, as well as their pot pies and sandwiches.

The Prawn Fettuccine ($18) was simple and nicely executed. The other pasta option is a vegetarian Artichoke Fettuccine.

Chicken Leek Pot Pie ($14), another popular item on the menu, was heartening and refreshing.

A trip to The Fabulous Baker Boy would not be complete without having desserts. They sell home-style cakes that are meant to feed people.

I’ve had too many mediocre red velvet cakes so I was surprised by Ab Fab Red Velvet Cake ($8.50) – coated with chocolate instead of cream cheese – which was incredibly moist and heartstoppingly rich.

I was especially enamoured by the Lemon Vanilla Raspberry ($8.50), and Apple Cider ($8.50), a salted caramel cream cheese cake. Also exceptional was The Nutty Monkey ($8) – a banana coconut cake with a peanut butter cream and chocolate frosting. It is impossible to go wrong with the flawless combination of chocolate and banana. The Matcha Praline Cake ($7.50), on the other hand, was rather dry and lacking in matcha flavour.

Other cakes include Salted Caramel Chocolate Torte ($8.50), a rich chocolate torte with layers of salted caramel and dark chocolate frosting; Big Lub’s Carrot Cake ($8.50), a modern carrot cake with the addition of cranberry and coconut; and Triple Chocolate Cake ($7) – a delicious and addictive dark chocolate cake.

The Fabulous Baker Boy is one of my new favourite places, and I think they deserve your support.
