BURIRAM

Directly translating to ‘City of Happiness’, Buriram is one of Thailand’s most unexplored provinces with just 30,000 people living there.

It is one of Thailand’s smallest provincial capital cities and one that is full of sandstone sanctuaries of ancient Khmer culture and other remnants of the Khmer civilization—something culture junkies will surely appreciate.

PHRA NAKHON SI AYUTTHAYA

Dubbed as Thailand’s hidden archaeological gem, Ayutthaya used to be the world’s largest city 300 years ago. While this breathtaking city might no longer be the world’s largest, its rich history makes it a spectacular place to explore for cultural history buffs.

#4 NONG KHAI

Northeastern Thai city Nong Khai actually lies on the southern bank of Mekong River, where it is only a mere 20 kilometres away from Vientiane, the capital of Laos. It is the gateway to witness the stunning Naga Fireballs phenomenon in October during full moon. You must visit Sala Kaew Ku, a park featuring Buddhism and Hinduism inspired statues of sheer sizes.

#5 PAI

Located in northern Thailand’s Mae Hong Son Province, Pai is a tiny Thai town that is exceptionally popular amongst community of backpackers. The picturesque Kong Lan is a sighting not to be missed, where it is akin to the Grand Canyon of Thailand.
