Are you on the hunt for aesthetic cafes with picturesque spots to spice up your boring Instagram feed? Or are you simply a hungry boyfriend looking to fill your growling tummy while your girlfriend badgers you for “IG-worthy date spots”?

Fret not, as you get the best of both worlds at Knots Café and Living — a gorgeous garden café located in Tai Seng!

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="width: 336px; height: 280px;"></ins>

This unassuming café is located amidst the bustling area of Tai Seng. Boasting floral décor, plushies and wooden furniture, Knots is a multi-concept store selling both furniture and a menu of typical café fare.

If you forgot to buy bae a present, this place will be your saving grace. Home to cute trinkets, there are lots of perfect last-minute gifts you can surprise your partner with. From their various blooms and interesting knick-knacks to the table you will be dining at, everything is for sale!

We decided to try their iconic savoury waffle platter: Knots Waffle Brekkie (S$18.90). This is the perfect dish to share with your partner. It was served in a hulking mountain of ingredients sitting atop a giant bed of fluffy buttermilk waffle.

The waffle was soft with an airy middle, and the strong buttermilk flavour was evident. Having been drizzled with syrup, it also had a sweet aftertaste.

The scrambled eggs were our favourite — the eggs were runny with an ultra-creamy texture that melted in our mouths. It complemented the pillowy waffle well, elevating its savouriness. The sautéed mushrooms also had a strong charred flavour, tantalising our tastebuds, while still allowing its natural sweetness to come through.

Though crisp on the outside, the bacon was surprisingly soft and tender, tearing apart easily. It also had a distinct cinnamon-like taste that kept us hankering for more.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="width: 336px; height: 280px;"></ins>//

We also opted for their Fish and Chips (S$13.90). Served with a generous portion of french fries, the deep-fried breaded dory fillet was incredibly crunchy. Paired together with the piquant, salty tartar sauce, the dressing added to the fish’s savouriness.

It wasn’t overwhelming greasy either and we liked how it had a thick meat to skin ratio. The meat was tender as well; add a pinch of lemon to add zesty flavour to the fish!

Albeit on the pricier side, Knots Café and Living is a great date spot for those looking to dine at an idyllic café. Step in and be enthralled by its garden wonderland! If you happen to be in the area, do pop by and give them a try.

Everton Creamery, a hidden café nestled in Tai Seng’s iconic BreadTalk IHQ Mall, has some really good desserts. They specialise in premium gelato flavours, alongside waffles and a small selection of coffee.

Located right smack in the middle of neighbouring offices, Everton Creamery is one of the go-to ice cream shops in Tai Seng. We were immediately attracted to its cute storefront, boasting pastel décor, ice cream posters and a dazzling array of gelato flavours.

Check out what we thought about the place!

We decided to go for their Waffle with Double Gelato scoops, topped with two dollops of premium flavours: Belgium Chocolate, and Durian (S$13.50). Albeit on the pricier side, the quality of their ice cream and waffles are worth every penny.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The waffle had a buttery aroma, and was crispy on the outside and airy in the middle. Ice cream wise, we chose the Belgium Chocolate and it boasted a creamy and rich texture. It had just the right amount of sweetness, with a luscious, chocolatey taste.

The Durian gelato was super fragrant and rich. It had a velvety texture, although we thought it resembled a thick durian paste instead of ice cream! It was not overly cloying either, but decadent in flavour.

You’re definitely in for a treat when you visit Everton Creamery! This is a great spot to chill with your friends or co-workers after a long day, so do drop by and give them a try.

Previously located in a tiny space underneath a HDB block at Macpherson Lane, Prodigal Café has moved to Rangoon Road and it is where you can find yummy sandwiches, toasties and specialty coffee.

First up, we had Poh’s Egg Mayo (S$12), a mouthwatering egg mayo toastie consisting of smoked paprika, rockets and double cheese atop a fluffy bed of Japanese thick toast. You can choose between thick toast and sourdough, but the staff recommends getting the former.

The toast was pillowy in texture — it had a soft middle while the corners were crispy. The hand-mashed egg mayo was creamy and rich, the perfect balance of sweet and savoury. It also paired well with the stringy melted cheese. With the topping of paprika and rockets, the dish also had slightly sour and zesty notes — a nice contrast to the sweetness of the mayo.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The prawns were sweet and immensely flavourful and the pasta was seasoned well. We liked the tiny chunks of mala peppers that provided a nice crunch and a hint of spice as well as the prawn roe that acted like little nuggets of salt.

One of the highlights of this humble establishment is their Green Curry Seafood Pasta (S$13.80). Beautifully tossed in a Thai green curry sauce, this pasta dish is so fragrant that it just fills up the entire room.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

Linguine pasta is served with a generous portion of clams, mussels, squid and prawns, all nicely coated in the luscious, flavourful sauce made up of what seemed like coconut, kaffir lime leaf and chillis.

To balance out the spicy and the savoury flavours, we got a slice of their Wolfberry & Osmanthus Cheesecake (S$4.80) which is essentially a floral jelly inspired by the Chinese gwai fa jelly, atop a decadent cheesecake.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

You have a luxurious cheesecake that is rich and creamy, and a refreshing floral jelly that seems to balance it out well enough without overlapping in terms of flavour.

Overall, we were utterly impressed by the food here and coupled with the absence of GST and service charges as well as the great service rendered to us, there is no doubt that we will return. Perhaps next time, to try their other dishes like their chilli crab pasta and crispy pork belly that we noticed other tables ordering.

The BreadTalk International Headquarters (IHQ) sits in the midst of the Tai Seng area. You might not know, but it is actually a comprehensive lifestyle mall that has all your favourite BreadTalk brands, dessert parlours, beauty services, personal care store, optometrist and more under one roof.

Spanning across 7,000 square metres of land and 10 storeys, the spectacular infrastructure is located along Tai Seng Street and just opposite of Tai Seng MRT Station.

BreadTalk IHQ will also be celebrating their third anniversary this month, with freebies and contests for all. Simply upload a photo taken within BreadTalk IHQ Mall with the hashtag #BreadTalkIHQ in October, and the 30 most creative entries will win attractive food vouchers.

If you haven’t been, here are 7 Places At BreadTalk IHQ To Dine At. Yes, all your favourite brands are under one roof. And there is free kopi for the month of October! You have to read on to find out more.

#1 ARTEASE

Artease specialises in teas, and you can expect unique concoctions such as Caramel Popcorn (regular – S$4, large – S$5) and Iced Honey Espresso (S$4.50).

The Caramel Popcorn (Salty) comprises a harmonious blend of caramel, milk, roasted rice tea and sea salt; a sweet rendition is available too. If you want an effective pick-me-up, the Iced Honey Espresso (S$4.50) is amazing. The coffee is intense and the added honey gives the drink the right amount of sweetness.

Artease’s selection of cooked-to-order sandwiches is especially popular amongst the working crowds here. For the month of October, Artease is offering two new sandwiches with their homemade jams—Earl Grey and Matcha Jam Toast—for only S$2 (U.P. S$2.80).

#4 EVERTON CREAMERY

The popular ice cream joint at Everton Park has an outlet here at BreadTalk IHQ and we cannot be more thrilled because it is now nearer to us! The two-year-old ice cream brand produces handcrafted gelato with natural ingredients and abstains from artificial enhancers and chemical preservatives; think intense, thick and creamy texture that explodes with flavours.

Choose from 16 different rotational flavours (single scoop – S$4.80, double scoop – S$8), and an additional S$0.50 will be charged for premium flavours. We especially enjoyed the classic Pistachio, the all-new Mocha Crunch, and the interesting Taiji YuanYang (a mixture of peanut butter and black sesame to mimic traditional glutinous rice balls or ‘tang yuan‘).

We say have the “full works”—The Belgian Waffle (S$9.30) comes with a single scoop of ice cream).

#5 FOOD REPUBLIC

Food Republic is probably the most popular food court in Singapore. There are numerous outstanding vendors that you have to try—namely Ah Chew Yong Tau Foo, Li Xin Teochew Fishball Noodles and Sergeant Hainanese Chicken Rice.

The Sergeant Hainanese Chicken Rice is a household name and the Yuan Yang Chicken Rice Set (S$7.50) is a treat. Li Xin Teochew Fishball Noodles’ Signature Dry Fishball Noodles (S$4.30) is a traditional favourite, and the bowl of al dente noodles and springy fishballs is one that we can never get sick of.

Why not order a piping hot bowl of Yong Tau Foo Soup (S$5.20) from Ah Chew Yong Tau Foo too? The price includes six ingredients and your choice of noodles, or seven pieces of yong tau foo. Ah Chew Yong Tau Foo also does a splendid Chee Cheong Fun (S$2.40 for two pieces).

#6 RAMENPLAY

RamenPlay is another brand by BreadTalk that has enjoyed popularity since its debut. Expanding their line of ramen bowls and donburi, RamenPlay is also serving Shabu Shabu now and you can pick from either pork (S$13.90) or beef (S$14.90) with two soup choices (clear or kimchi).

Since the area during lunch is catered to mainly working professionals, RamenPlay has also launched bento sets for a quick grab-and-go. Our favourites are Pork Yakiniku Bento Set (S$8.80) and Teriyaki Chicken Bento Set (S$8.80).

Paired with fragrant Premium Koshihikari Rice imported from Niigata, Japan, the Bento Sets make for a delicious and value-for-money lunch choice.

From now till 31 October 2016, RamenPlay is offering its Cha Shu Tonkotsu Ramen in a spicy broth. Enjoy 25% off selected sides with every order of Cha Shu Tonkotsu Ramen!

#7 TOAST BOX

Toast Box has successfully combined nostalgia and modernity into an Asian cafe concept. The homegrown eatery draws inspiration from coffee shops in the 60s and takes pride in serving aromatic traditional Nanyang Kopi (S$1.80).

While we love our Kaya Toasts, the Curry Chicken with Rice (S$7.70 per set, inclusive of Homemade Barley) set is actually a gem and an underrated find! The Hainanese-style curry reminds us of home, and it is precisely such simple goodness that we know we can always count on.

The all-new Cheesy Ham & Egg Thick Toast (S$6.10 per set, inclusive of a hot medium size Kopi/ Teh) reminded us of a French Croque Madame but with an Asian tweak. The pillowy white toast is topped with ham, egg and melted cheese.

Over the past few years, we’ve seen more and more heartland cafes pop up and even so in industrial office areas such as Tai Seng. What you may not know is that Tai Seng houses some of the most interesting local cafe gems and they are just waiting for you to explore.

We can ensure that these 5 cafes are worth travelling to as they are all located within walking distance from Tai Seng MRT Station. If you are unfamiliar with the area, here is our guide to the Must-Try Cafes in Tai Seng.

#1 23 JUMPIN

23 Jumpin might just be the most popular cafe along the row of F&B outlets at The Commerze Building, which is a stone’s throw away from Tai Seng MRT. Hearty and delicious mains are served here and are all at reasonably priced nett prices.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>//

#4 THREE YEARS IN A BALLOON

Three Years in a Balloon took flight about a year ago and has been serving satisfied customers ever since. Quirky and fun are two words you can use to describe this cafe that specialises in decorative cakes. Besides serving a big range of ready-made desserts, get excited about their savoury crepes, quiches and pies which you can have along with a warm cup of coffee there.
