Of all the tremendous amounts of cooking methods available to us, be it fancy or rustic, barbecue still remains one of our all-time-favourite ways to have food cooked. It’s hard not to give in to a platter of smoky, seared meat, and thanks to a slew of new openings, the barbecue trend is bigger than ever in Singapore.

Nearly every culture has their own form of barbecue, in fact, the whole concept of barbecue dates back to caveman times where food was literally cooked over an open fire on a spit (or a stick). Now, with Singapore playing host to so many varieties of cultural influences and cuisines, we get to enjoy so many varieties.

Whether it’s a sweet, marinated Korean bulgogi beef you crave, good-old Louisiana-style baby back ribs, Filipino pork lechon or even a humble mookata, here is our guide to 13 BBQ restaurants in Singapore.

SUPERSTAR K

Talk about the hottest Korean BBQ restaurants in Singapore, and we all think of Superstar K at Tanjong Pagar. The outlet specialises in using charcoal grills for its Korean BBQ, and the authentic dining experience explains its popularity among Singaporeans and tourists alike.

Side dishes are modest yet not overly ambitious, unlike many other Korean eateries. Our personal favourites to order here include the beef short rib as well as the pork belly. It is also good to note that they open until 4am daily which is great if you ever find yourself craving for Korean barbecue after a night of heavy drinking.

75 Tanjong Pagar Road,
Singapore 088496
Tel: +65 6224 0504
Daily: 12pm – 2pm, 5pm – 11pm

I’M KIM JUNIOR

Located conveniently at Orchard’s *SCAPE, I’m Kim Junior is a casual Korean BBQ restaurant that is popular amongst the young crowd. Following the success of its sister restaurant—I’m Kim—at the School of the Arts (SOTA), I’m Kim Junior has a menu that features new items such as Korean Army Stew.

On the barbecue, you can look forward to a pretty insane spread from pork belly, a myriad of marinated meats, seafood as well as their bacon-wrapped enoki mushrooms which is a surefire hit among the little ones.

DON DAE BAK

What we love most about Don Dae Bak Korean BBQ is that the restaurant uses charcoal grills instead of the usual gasoline grill. That sure makes a lot of difference to our meats in imparting that deep charred aroma that every good barbecue should have.

This small outlet along Kreta Ayer is just like any usual Korean BBQ place—round communal tables surrounded by kimchi and pickles that are entirely free-flow, an abundance of sauces and upbeat Korean pop songs on loop in the background.

35 Kreta Ayer Road,

Here, you can get a free-flow of fluffy egg that is poured around the side of the barbecue pan.

EIGHT KOREAN BBQ

Korean BBQ is all about the meat, but at some barbecue joints, you end up paying lots for subpar cuts or under-marinated meats with little or no character—well, not at Eight Korean BBQ. These folks here pride themselves with their extensive knowledge of meats and they focus only on exquisite cuts from premium varieties of beef and pork.

In true Korean style, you can have your meats seared unadorned, coated in a punchy marinade, or served up in a nourishing stew. The next time your carnivorous tendencies act up, stop by Eight Korean BBQ to experience some of the best meats the world has to offer.

A popular name that pops up at the mere mention of solid Japanese barbecue along the Robertson Quay area, Aburiya is one that promises exceptional quality meats and proper grilling using charcoal.

The menu offers a pretty substantial array of meaty options from beef, pork, chicken and even lamb but we recommend opting for the sets. The wagyu set, although a tad pricey, is worth every penny.

We always believe that the best way to barbecue meat is over charcoal. It gives it that subtle hint of smokiness that elevates its overall flavour. Wang Dae Bak has long been our go-to for a seriously good Korean BBQ meal and until this day, it is still one of our top choices when we’re craving Korean barbecue.

Most Korean BBQ places in Singapore use an electric grill where the heat can be adjusted accordingly. However, Wang Dae Bak prefers to use charcoal instead and we absolutely love it. This gives our meats a nice char and a delightful taste that far exceeds that of cooking on an electric grill.

Wang Dae Bak has been around for years but they still garner a huge crowd and snaking queues, especially during peak hours. Call ahead to reserve a seat if you want to skip the long wait. Here’s what we love about Wang Dae Bak Korean BBQ Restaurant.

Treat yourself and splurge on their premium meats because it is worth every cent. We typically go for the Boneless Prime Rib, Marinated Chicken, Pork Belly and Marinated Shoulder-Loin.

We do recommend going for a good variety of marinated and non-marinated meats to get a taste of their best offerings. Since chicken is not as flavourful on its own without seasoning or a marinade, the Marinated Chicken is a great choice, even more so when wrapped with some fresh lettuce leaves and kimchi.

The Boneless Prime Rib is, of course, a must. The gorgeous marbling of the beef creates a melt-in-your-mouth texture when cooked to a nice medium to medium-rare.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>//

The Set A (2 pax, S$45) is a great choice for those dining in a pair as it features a whopping 24 skewers that you can enjoy. The set includes–Chicken Skewers, Marbled Beef Skewers, Lamb Skewers, Sliced Lamb Chop Skewers, Pork Belly Skewers, Pork Belly with Enoki Mushroom, Shishamo Skewers, Grilled Mushroom Skewers, Garlic Moss Skewers and Mushroom Skewers.

Each set comes with banchan such as Kimchi and white rice to complement the skewers. You will also be served 2 condiments, a non-spicy dry dip and a sweet and spicy Korean-style chilli sauce. Each skewer was delicious but the spicy Lamb Skewers were a stand-out.

The lamb is dry-rubbed with Szechuan-style spices that reminded us of good ol’ Ma La Xiang Guo. The gaminess of the lamb is rid completely as the spices complement the juicy meat outstandingly well.

Korean BBQ restaurants are, without a doubt, abundant in Singapore and the vast options cater to different needs—whether you are after something easy on the pockets or really looking to indulge in quality meats.

Some days, cheap Korean BBQ restaurants just don’t cut it (although prices are insanely attractive) because honestly, nothing beats having your meat grilled over charcoal; it is the most authentic way of having Korean BBQ and not to mention that heavenly smoky and charred flavour on the succulent meat.

Hailing all the way from South Korea, Seorae Korean Charcoal BBQ should be on your must-visit list of Korean restaurants the next time you are craving for better-than-average Korean BBQ.

Known best for their Galmaegisal (S$21.90++), or otherwise known as pork skirt meat in English, Seorae’s signature meat comes highly recommended by their staff. Well-marinated with the perfect lean meat to fat ratio, the Galmaegisal is THE item you have to try before leaving the restaurant.

Other meat choices over there include the Garlic Galmaegisal, Seorae Samgyeobsal, and Hangari Samgyeobsal.

Fans of cheese will definitely love how Seorae gives complimentary cheese and eggs for diners who order grilled meat. Allow the cheese to melt and go for that Instagram-worthy cheese pull!

Another highlight at Seorae has to be their 2-In-1 Jjigae lunch set (S$35.90++). The hearty set features rice, ramyeon, two soft drinks, two side dishes and two broths of your preference (kimchi, bean paste, red chilli and non-spicy bulgogi sauce).

Diners can also top up S$28 to get additional two BBQ meats to make it a more substantial meal.

If you are craving for authentic Korean food after having binge-watched a whole series of K-dramas, Cho-won Garden Korean Restaurant might just be the perfect place to head to.

Situated just a 3-minute walk away from Tanjong Pagar MRT station along Peck Seah Street, Cho-won Garden Korean Restaurant offers some of the best Korean cuisines in Singapore. They serve a tantalising collection of Korean fare, ranging from barbecue meats to stews and Korean fried chicken.

The spacious interior of Cho-won Garden Korean Restaurant makes it the perfect place for a casual meal with family and friends or even group gatherings. This Korean restaurant is well-furnished and has a homely feel, atop the authentic taste of their Korean cuisine. It is no wonder that this place is frequented by many Koreans!

In addition, Cho-won Garden Korean Restaurant has several private dining rooms fit for small private functions.

JAEYUL-BOSAM WRAPPED KIMCHI WITH PORK

Cho-won Garden Korean Restaurant boasts this dish as their signature dish and there is no doubt why. Use the lettuce to wrap the pork belly as well as the kimchi which had fresh oysters hidden beneath it—the taste of each component complemented each other, making this dish pleasantly balanced.

No Korean dining experience will ever be truly completed without army stew. The Spicy Sausage Stew (S$38 / S$48) that we had was absolutely delicious—the savoury yet slightly tangy broth definitely did not disappoint, although it was milder than those that you’d usually get elsewhere.

Indeed, it is hard to go wrong with army stew—we would gladly finish this huge portion of army stew at Cho-won Garden Korean Restaurant!

ASSORTMENT OF AUTHENTIC KOREAN DISHES

One would be glad to hear that the menu at Cho-won Garden Korean Restaurant is as extensive as it can get. Take your pick from their wide array of options, including Korean Fried Chicken (S$20 for half, S$36 for whole), Korean Seafood Pancake (S$19) and Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap!

If you are with a group of friends, opt for their sharing portions for their Korean BBQ and barbeque your own meats to get the full Korean dining experience! Their Seasoned Prime Rib (S$33) should not be missed!

#1 SEORAE KOREAN CHARCOAL BBQ

Those who value quality over quantity when it comes to Korean BBQ restaurants have to know about Seorae Korean Charcoal BBQ, which opened its second outlet at JEM last August. Hailing all the way from South Korea, the established Korean barbecue restaurant is recognised for its signature Galmaegisal (available in both garlic and original)—premium pork skirt meat marinated in Korean spices.

If you are looking for variety, you will not be disappointed with other premium pork cuts such as the Seorae Samgyeobsal (pork belly), Hangjeongsal (pork jowl) as well as for the beef lovers, Woosamgyeob (US beef short plate) and LA Galbi (prime beef short ribs).

For the most savings, make your reservations via Eatigo for either 11.30am, 12pm, 2.30pm, 3pm or 3.30pm to enjoy 50% off your total bill.

#2 KKO CHI BAR

Kko Chi Bar is an underrated Korean bar in Tanjong Pagar that specialises in barbecued meat skewers. The founder of Kko Chi Bar was born in South Korea but raised in China, hence the food that he serves here are mostly Korean, with a touch of Chinese flair.

The barbecued skewer machines on the table ensure that each skewer is cooked well and evenly—something we thoroughly enjoyed. The spicy lamb skewers impressed us the most. Marinated in a plethora of dry spices reminiscent of Szechuan spices, the lamb was rid of all gaminess and was incredibly flavourful. The simple but tasty Potato Pancakes (S$18) is a must try to complement the rich skewers.

#3 CHO-WON GARDEN KOREAN RESTAURANT

Situated just a 2-minute walk away from Tanjong Pagar MRT station, Cho-won Garden Korean Restaurant serves authentic Korean food which tastes as amazing as it looks.

Their signature dish is the Jaeyuk-Bosam Wrapped Kimchi with Pork—the crunch from the lettuce and the kimchi underneath went well with the soft texture of the pork. We also loved their Haemul-Kimchi-Jeon which was essentially a seafood kimchi pancake—as well as the seasoned prime rib, YangNyeom-Kalbi-Sal.

#4 CHICKEN UP

Chicken Up boasts as one of the most popular places to get the best Korean fried chicken fix and authentic Korean dishes. Think seafood pancake, army stew and even watermelon soju!

We loved their bulgogi fries where the crispy and thick-cut fries were topped with tender beef bulgogi, onion and mayonnaise—a combination so incredibly delectable you definitely wouldn’t want to miss this. Pair your food with their watermelon soju and end your meal with some Korean bingsu! From appetisers to main dishes and sweet treats, Chicken Up certainly doesn’t disappoint.

#5 KIMCHI KOREAN RESTAURANT

For classic Korean food, head over to Kimchi Korean Restaurant at Suntec City. This spacious restaurant whips up delightful Korean dishes, such as Kimchi slow-cooked stew, kimchi pancake and beef bulgogi bibimbap.

Something different that we tried was the crispy potato cheese pancake, something we rarely come across in Korean cuisines. We loved their Ginseng chicken soup which tasted incredibly comforting and homely. Their broth was flavourful yet not too thick—we just kept going back for the next spoonful!

#6 OVEN & FRIED CHICKEN

Whether you crave chicken that’s baked, fried or smothered in ice cream (yes, we’re serious), Oven & Fried Chicken has it all covered. Tuck into a splendid array of crispy-beyond-belief Korean-style fried chicken as well as a fine selection of Korean traditional side dishes.

What makes their chicken unique to other Korean fried chicken joints is their use of rice flour as opposed to regular flour, which ensures that the chicken achieves an unbelievably crispy crust without being greasy. It also locks in moisture, allowing each bite to be jam-packed with steaming chicken goodness.

Lauded as one of the most affordable Korean barbecue joints in town, I’m Kim Korean BBQ is a meat haven that you need to check out.

The concept of the restaurant is pretty straightforward. Simply pick from a selection of cooked food, soups, condiments, meats and more. We are huge fans of their volcano chicken, beef rolls as well as their Bushimgae (Korean pancakes).

For the most savings, make your reservations via Eatigo for either 2pm or 9pm to enjoy 50% off your total bill.
