Hands up if you are a fan of anything pandan! An evergreen mainstay in our various cuisines and desserts, this distinct, fragrant flavour takes the cake as Singapore’s perennial favourite ingredient. One such pandan-infused creation is none other than the “OG” pandan chiffon cake — a classic childhood treat that every Singaporean would have grown up eating.

With dessert joints quickly hopping on the bandwagon to create nostalgic, pandan-themed desserts that will appeal to the masses (confirm plus chop!), pandan treats are now ubiquitous. Those craving for a taste of this aromatic flavour can find it available in a variety of artisanal cakes, tarts, and even cocktails.

Here is a guide to 14 best pandan desserts & drinks in Singapore that you can sink your teeth into! (Psst, they are definitely worth the calories.)

VIOLET OON SATAY BAR & GRILL JADE BANGLE COCKTAIL

The grande dame of Singapore — Violet Oon — has, yet again, impressed us with one of her novel cocktail creations: Jade Bangle. Spinning her own playful twist to the beloved flavour, this local-inspired drink consists of floral, house-made Pandan essence and coconut milk before it is doused in Ketel One Vodka. It is then finished with a toasted coconut rim.

The dash of sweetness from the pandan essence and “lemak” coconut milk mutes the strong, bitter aftertaste of the vodka, making for an addictive pairing. A delightful alternative for Friday night drinks, diners can also pair their tipple with Violet Oon’s savoury sides.

Who would have thought that your kitchen accident years ago would have become one of the most sought-after desserts today? The Basque Burnt Cheesecake is basically your regular New York cheesecake — but chao da-ed.

It has a burnt crisp top which hides a custardy, wobbly cheesecake underneath. It’s supposed to be sensually creamy, cooked till just holding its shape. But, there have been many variations, with some places leaving theirs with a gooey lava centre.

The Basque burnt cheesecake trend has not died down since months ago and we’re loving it. If you’ve never had a taste of it before, here are 11 Basque Burnt Cheesecake delivered to you.

BAKERY BRERA

You’d be seriously wrong to undermine this small shack of a bakery along Empress Road. Meet Bakery Brera, one of the finest neighbourhood bakeries we’ve ever seen. Not in terms of stature, but in terms of their goods.

Rest assured that there is zero blasphemy when they term themselves as an “artisanal” bakery. Their Basque Burnt Cheesecake is wonderfully creamy and rich, albeit on the sweeter side. They sell it in slices (S$7.50) or as a whole 8 inch cake (S$62).

Place your order via their online platform here.

CAT & THE FIDDLE

Are we even surprised that Cat & The Fiddle is in this list? This Halal-certified bakery is basically built on cheesecakes. Founded by Daniel Tay, Cat & The Fiddle does not disappoint when it comes to gourmet cheesecakes.

Their rendition of the basque burnt cheesecake, Charred Eclipse (S$48.90), is entroved with Martabak cheese, which gives the cake a slightly tangy finish.

CAKED WITH LOVE

Spearheaded by Jacqueline, Caked With Love specialises in customisable cakes and baking classes. They’ve cheated a little with the addition of berries to their cheesecake, which instantly levels up its otherwise monotonous appearance.

But, the fruits aren’t just for show. The tartness of the berries cleverly cuts through the heaviness of the cream cheese, giving it a superbly balanced profile.

ELEMENTS

Elements is none other than the sister bakery of Fresh Fruits Lab, Platform 1094 and Herit8ge. Their bakes are all the product of their esteemed pastry chef, Jason, who’s armed with training from renowned chefs in Ritz Carlton and Star Cruise.

Their Basque Burnt Cheesecake (S$39) is a stellar piece of art — a gooey centre draped in a charred blanket. They sell it as a 6-inch whole cake, and requires at least a 3 days advanced order.

OLIVIA RESTAURANT & LOUNGE

This cake has got everybody talking. Playing more like a tart than a cake, Olivia Restaurant’s version is encased in a buttery almond sable crust.

Enthroned within is an oozey lava centre, the kind that makes your heart melt a little on the inside. Here’s the twist — they’ve spiked it with Valdeon cheese, a.k.a. Spanish blue cheese.

Fastest fingers first. Over here at Paparch, their goods sell out like hotcakes (literally). They’re already sold out till the end of July. So if you want to snap a slot, you’d better be fast when they release their slots.

Their Burnt Cheesecake comes in only one flavour, and they’ve absolutely nailed it. It has the most luscious melty centre, and a perfectly burnt crust. Nothing too cloying or diabetically sweet.

Their cheesecakes have a silky molten centre and slightly firmer sides, granting a delicious play on textures. Orders above S$50 can enjoy free delivery.
