Artbox Singapore garnered massive crowds and was a huge success last year. Hence, it is no surprise that this wildly-popular creative market from Bangkok will be returning this year and it will be almost 3 times bigger than last year’s edition to accommodate more people and vendors.

The event showcases local and Thai entrepreneurs dishing out creative and ‘hipster’ snacks and other knick-knacks such as designer bags and jewellery. Here’s what you should know about Artbox Singapore 2018.

This year’s event will take up 140,000 square feet, featuring hundreds of vendors. While we were not thrilled that Artbox 2017 was a packed nightmare with virtually no walking space and parking lots around, we are confident that the organisers will do a better job this time around with the bigger event space.

We were greeted by a plethora of creative and colourful snacks and drinks at last year’s Artbox and we expect to be wowed by even more unique and delicious grub.

We look forward to a better-planned event this year with more spacious walking rows and great live music. The verdict is not out on whether this year’s event is worth a visit but we are certainly hopeful.

You get to choose which flavours you fancy (there is also durian) and the fillings are usually extremely generous. Pull your taiyaki apart for that photogenic cheese pull which does not lose out to the cheese toastie.

Even if you have not been to Bangkok before, we are sure you have seen this dessert at pasar malams in Singapore. Nothing feels better than an icy watermelon dessert to cool off from Bangkok’s humid weather.

#5 CHARCOAL CREPES

Choose to have your crepes savoury or sweet—we had our charcoal crepe with sliced bananas. You are likely to find crepes in most night markets of Bangkok as it is a common snack you can find even on the streets itself.

#6 BLOOD BAG DRINK

This blood bag drink got us feeling like vampires sucking on real blood (it is actually just fruit punch)—eat your heart out Edward Cullen!

The taste is nothing amazing as it is just your regular syrup water but the beverage definitely helps to quench your thirst.

#7 THAI MILK TEA

You have to film down the process of locals making traditional Thai milk tea. We were staring in awe as we watched the tea being pulled from one jug to the other. The end result is a delicious, frothy drink that is served at the right temperature for consumption.

The greatly anticipated Artbox Singapore is finally here! Bangkok’s Artbox makes its inaugural appearance in Singapore with over 500 unique vendors in their lineup over next two weeks. 

For those unfamiliar with Artbox, it is essentially a large market pulsating with a vibrant youthful vibe and bursting with creative energy.

Admission is free, by the way. Artbox Singapore will be taking place from 14 to 16 April 2017 and 21 to 23 April 2017. So, did it live up to the hype and is Artbox Singapore really worth going?

WHAT TO DO AT ARTBOX SINGAPORE

One unique feature of Artbox Singapore is the airmocks that are free for you to recline on. You just need a beer to go along with your relaxation sesh.

Another great place for you to chill out at is Chang Beer Garden. Grab an ice-cold beer (S$6) or 5 bottles at S$30 and get 1 free!

MTV Asia is also offering free tattoo services by tattoo artist, Greamy. If you have always wanted to get a tattoo, why not now!

It is time to get busy searching for great steals and trust us that there are many awaiting to be discovered.

WHAT TO EAT AT ARTBOX SINGAPORE

Foodies, this is the place to be.

Amazing selections of savoury and sweets await you at Artbox Singapore but for starters, pick from a large selection of flavoured marshmallows and enjoy seeing them roasted before your very eyes.

We all loved Thai Iced Tea, and you can have as much as you like at T.I.T.

If not, why not have ever so Instagrammable Talad Drink at S$5? Both are absolutely picture-worthy drinks!

Cool down from the sweltering heat and humidity with Merely’s ice cream. It will be so shiok!

One magical dessert you must not miss out on is Coyono’s Dragon’s Breath (S$6.50), a dessert featuring the use of liquid nitrogen.

No worries if you did not manage to get your hands on some Thai Iced Milk Tea. But really, even if you did, what is a little more indulgence with Sol55′s Thai Milk Tea Soft Serve (S$4.50)? So creamy and rich, we were delighted with every element of this soft serve.

HOW TO GET TO ARTBOX SINGAPORE

Artbox Singapore has two entrances. You can either access it from the URA Bayfront Car Park or walk over from Marina Bay Sands. There wasn’t a queue to get into Artbox Singapore when we were there today, but it was a real squeeze.

Once again, Artbox Singapore will be held from 14 to 16 April 2017 and 21 to 23 April 2017.

And, this is probably what all of you are waiting for—is it worth going? Well, we’d say no.

While the concept is popular and there are many things to see and eat, there is no crowd control and the event space was completely overutilized. The booths were lined too closely to each other, leaving little or almost no room to walk. This only means being caught up in a human jam and wasting more time meandering through the crowd than actual eating and having fun.

Average queue time is 15 minutes, by the way. And because of Singapore’s perpetual humidity, walking through Artbox Singapore in such a condition makes it even harder. You almost couldn’t truly enjoy the experience.

If you are driving, welcome to your nightmare; there is virtually no empty lots!

Not too sure if this is what we’d want to go through again though the street snacks were really interesting.
