For a real, authentic taste of Jakarta, locals will tell you not to skip the iconic Nasi Padang. Many of us are no strangers to this steamed rice dish that comes with a variety of accompaniments—including Cassava Leaves, Rendang, Spicy Dendeng Balado, Gulai Otak and Gulai Kaki Sapi.

If you are unfamiliar with the dining scene in Jakarta and not sure where to start, head over to Sari Ratu Nasi Padang—a popular Nasi Padang restaurant that specialises in Minangkabau cuisine.

Offering a mouthwatering range of Indonesian dishes, this is where you can experience unadulterated local cuisine that will make a difference during your stay in Jakarta!

HOW DO LOCALS EAT IT?

The system of eating out at a typical Nasi Padang restaurant in Indonesia is served in a Minang Kabau style: Customers do not have to order any side dishes, instead, customers are only made to sit. The waiters at the restaurant will automatically serve up all the available side dishes in small plates.

The table will be filled with an array of mouth-watering sides, which can go up to 14 or more. You can also ask for a refill at an additional price. Customers are charged by the number of empty plates.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

WHERE IS IT LOCATED?

With an outlet at the popular Senayan Plaza, Sari Ratu serves up one of Jakarta’s most well-received Nasi Padang and the snaking queue reflects its popularity.

The Nasi Padang chain restaurant also has many other small outlets around Jakarta and is known to be the top choice for those looking for a hearty, local meal who are drawn to the unique concept of Nasi Padang.

WHAT IS THE DINING STYLE LIKE?

Dine in true Minangkabau style: patrons are not required to do the ordering since the wait staff will fill up your table with all their signatures on small plates to share among the group.

Refills are available for a small sum and diners are charged by the number of empty plates that are on the table.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

The Premium flavours are each priced at S$5.80 and the Classics at S$4.80 each.

The popsicles are Poppy Pops’ specialty. We got ourselves a Poppy Trio (S$6), Poppy Classic with added on Maple Butter Waffles (S$7.80) and Truffle Fries (S$12).

We were stoked to dig into our Honey Butter Waffles with Lemon Blueberry Poppy topped with Milk Chocolate and Salted Biscuits.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

#4 FIGHTS INFLAMMATION

The papaya, with the help of the papain enzymes in the fruit itself, has become one of the best natural anti-inflammatory foods that help to mitigate and prevent inflammation in the body.

#5 IMPROVES DIGESTION

The presence of papain, chymopapain and proteolytic enzymes help boost better digestion for the individual. These acids aid in protein breakdown and also detox the digestive tract!

#6 NATURAL REMEDY FOR DENGUE

A popular natural remedy for this disease, this juice is made by crushing fresh papaya leaves in 8-hour intervals. Many who have been infected have concurred with this particular remedy’s effectiveness.

The juice has also demonstrated capabilities to enhance blood platelet count in patients with grade one and two dengue as well as fatal dengue fever.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: inline-block; width: 336px; height: 280px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1199323522078805" data-ad-slot="9464314347"></ins>

#7 PROMOTES WEIGHT LOSS

With ample fibre and a minimal amount of calories, papayas are also crowned the fruit of good health and can largely aid in weight loss. As the fibre content in a papaya is abundant, it helps to block the absorption of fats and draw more water to prevent constipation.

#8 REGULATES MENSTRUAL CYCLE

For women who struggle with irregular menstrual cycles and suffer from frequent ‘PMS’, consuming papayas can aid in regulating the menstrual cycle. Papayas have “heating” properties and are also known as hot food. The production of heat in the body fuels the estrogen hormones and regulates periods in females.

#9 STIMULATES HAIR GROWTH AND REMOVES DANDRUFF

The papaya boasts various types of nutrients for the hair that help control dandruff and enhance healthier hair growth. It also eliminates excess chemicals, grease and dirt with the help of vitamins, minerals and enzymes found in the fruit.

#10 TREATS SUNBURN

Go ahead, take a papaya and grate it into a paste. The enzymes in a papaya known as papain have healing properties and do wonders for the skin! Applying papaya paste on your skin will also prevent dead skin from hanging off from your burnt shoulders!

FUN FACT: PAPAYA SEEDS

The seeds from the midsection of a papaya are edible and possess a peppery taste with benefits that rival the fruit itself. The black seeds contain nutrients that boost kidney health and eliminate parasites from the body. Small doses of papaya seeds help in cleansing the digestive tract and battle inflammation and bacteria in the body.

However, do keep in mind that large doses of papaya seeds per day may be toxic for the body. Due to their peppery flavour, you can also grind them as an alternative for coarse pepper.
