Seeing how we are stuck with this unforgiving weather all year round, it’s no surprise that many of us are on the perpetual search for new places to get our ice cream fix in Singapore. This time, our search has led us to Mingle Mangle, an ice cream parlour nestled at the edge of Hougang that scoops up a selection of classic and unique ice cream flavours.

At Mingle Mangle, there are more than 10 waffle flavours for you to choose from. Think dark chocolate, peanut butter, black sesame or even super spicy chilli and chicken cutlet – we were obviously spoilt for choice! Unfortunately, we only had room for one waffle so we went for the Matcha Waffle (S$6.50).

Crispy and airy, we were impressed at how fragrant the waffle was. Not only did the inside of the waffle have the distinct matcha green colour, but the overall flavour also stayed true to what matcha is supposed to taste like as well: bitter and earthy.

We paired our waffle with a Double Scoop (S$6.60) of Honey Cornflakes and Mud Slide. The former was delightfully sweet with cornflakes that were a bit soggy while the latter was decadent and rich. We appreciated how the ice creams at Mingle Mangle were not cloying and did not melt that fast too.

We also sampled the Chilli Crab and Hainanese Chicken Rice flavour. While they were well-executed, we were not adventurous enough to have a whole scoop of it. Those who have exotic taste buds should definitely make a trip here to try these interesting flavours.

Gone are the days when waffles are being eaten on its own—there are literally cafes serving waffles paired with ice cream everywhere we go now and even savoury waffle pairings for those who do not have a sweet tooth.

Opened in February 2019, Denzy Gelato is a relatively new addition to the slew of cafes serving ice cream and waffles. Be that as it may, this humble cafe nestled under an HDB is worth a visit not just for its affordability but also their range of flavours.

A waffle with ice cream set will set you back by just S$8—try out their premium flavours (+S$1) including Elderflower Mojito Sorbet and Persian Peach, in which the latter is made using saffron and almond.

HATTER STREET

A cafe that needs no further introduction, Hatter Street serves one of the best renditions of waffles with ice cream in Singapore.

Their Whoaffles (S$9.50) comes with a single scoop of ice cream and sauce of your choice. Thick, superbly crispy yet maintaining a light and fluffy interior, their waffles have earned them a pool of regular patrons so if you’re a fan of the waffles and ice cream combination, be sure to try them out.

WIMBLY LU

Serving a plethora of savoury mains and sweet bites at affordable prices is Wimbly Lu, a gem of a cafe tucked away in Serangoon. A whole waffle and a scoop of ice cream and sauce of your choice costs just S$8.50.

If you’re looking for smaller portions, head over to Little Wimbly Lu, which serves half portions of the same desserts at even cheaper prices! It might be slightly out of the way to get to Wimbly Lu, but we promise it will all be worth it.

One of the most popular ice cream parlours in Singapore to get an ice-cold treat, Udders definitely doesn’t disappoint if you’re looking for a spot to grab dessert.

Waffletown at Balmoral Plaza is a family-owned retro fast food restaurant that has been serving American food such as burgers, fried chicken and Belgian waffles for the last thirty odd years in Singapore.

Order up a signature Belgium waffles topped with ice cream (S$4.20). Their desserts are quite possibly the most basic rendition of ice cream and waffles—and likely the cheapest—in Singapore.

Routesixtysix is a small yet cosy cafe and it is situated just across the street from FATCAT Ice Cream Bar.

Their Buttermilk waffles with a scoop of ice cream (S$9.90) is one of the fluffiest you’ll ever come across—we kid you not. Their charcoal waffles and red velvet waffles are definitely worth a shot too. If you want the ultimate bang for your buck, order up more ice cream scoops atop your waffles for sharing as it is more worth the price!
