#1 ALCHEMY

Alchemy is almost considered as an institution in The Island of Gods. In fact, this one-stop destination comprises an organic health food store, holistic clinic, raw vegan cafe and juice bar. Alchemy strives to be environmentally friendly whenever possible – for instance, the furniture at Alchemy are made from old recycled wood and no plastic straws are used here.

Bali Buda was founded in 1994 with a simple philosophy of delivering homemade nutritious food to its customers. Fast forward to two decades later, the humble bakery still sticks to its belief and bakes over 500 loaves of bread before sunrise daily. #5 CASA LUNA

Casa Luna first opened some 24 years ago and has since become a must-visit for food lovers. The menu is comprehensive and affordable; it includes breakfast items, organic salads, homemade pastas, Balinese food, bread and pastries. The coffee here is also top-notch as the baristas here are trained by the people behind Australian coffee roaster Five Senses.

#8 FREAK COFFEE

Hipster-looking coffee shop Freak Coffee actually stands for “Fresh Roasted ‘Enak’ Arabica from Kintanami”. Local organic arabica grown coffee beans from a small plantation in Kintamani are used and espresso is served freshly to customers within 24 hours of roasting.

#9 KISMET

Kismet boasts a three-in-one concept; a cafe, restaurant and boutique. #10 KUE BAKERY

We stumbled upon nine-year-old KUÉ Bakery whilst roaming around Jalan Suweta in Ubud. The bakery uses only locally-sourced ingredients and serves a plethora of European-style savoury delights and sweet treats. Over here, you can choose from 23 types of artisanal chocolates, 12 kinds of cookies and 14 different handcrafted breads.

#11 SENIMAN COFFEE STUDIO

Seniman Coffee Studio is the place to head to when you need good coffee in Ubud. This speciality coffee joint not only sources for the best coffee beans in Indonesia, they also roast the beans in-house. The cafe also offers a simple food menu at pocket-friendly prices. With free wifi, good coffee and simple comfort food, it is a great place to hang out with friends.

#12 TUKIES CAFE

It’s impossible to miss Tukies Cafe when strolling down the main road of Ubud. The mini cafe – also known as The Coconut Shop – displays many coconuts at its shopfront and yes, coconut is what it is known for. Grab a fresh whole coconut or beat the heat with a cup of coconut ice cream.

Balinese specialty health food establishment Clear Café is renowned for its all-encompassing menu of nourishing juices, tasty salads, sandwiches, Indonesian classics and raw/vegan dishes.

This Ubud-based café has proved to consumers that healthy food can actually taste insanely delicious.

Set foot into the multi-level café and be greeted by a splash of rainbow colours; the open-air gorgeous café is characterised by pastel-coloured wooden furniture and boasts an unrivalled view of Ubud’s tranquil countryside surroundings.

Definitely worth making a special detour if you are visiting Bali soon!

Even the author of ‘Eating For Beauty’ David Wolfe is a huge advocate of this beautiful cafe. The design might be a major draw, but we visited Clear Café primarily for its irresistible dishes. The ingredients used are sourced locally from the Island of Gods itself and the dishes are cooked in 100% pure coconut oil.

Clear Café’s menu is incredibly extensive! To the extent where diners would find themselves absolutely spoilt for choice. Kick start your meal with a power drink (RP$30) or nutritious milkshake (RP$35), before indulging in a refreshing salad (from RP$40 to RP$50).

Health junkies would be pleased to hear that the majority of Clear Café’s beverages are prepared with a superfood called Irish moss, which is essentially a seaweed jam-packed with nutritious minerals.

For something more substantial, select a wholesome sandwich (from RP$35 to RP$65), traditional Nasi Campur (RP$50) and/or Classic Mexican Cheddar Grilled Quesadillas (RP$40).

A meal here is beyond serene and we highly recommend it to any traveller who is interested in checking out Ubud’s healthy dining scene. There is also complimentary wifi at Clear Café, but do note that the café does not accept credit cards.
