If there is one thing better than lazing at a cafe on a hot afternoon over iced coffee and cake, it is doing so with a cuddly buddy by your side. Animal cafes have already gained their popularity in Singapore now since the opening of many dog and cat cafes in recent years.

Cat cafes, in particular, have been getting a lot of attention; there are four cat cafes located in central Singapore alone. It is pretty safe to say that Singaporeans have gone absolutely radical over felines.

Cafe-hopping will never be the same again with the addition of adorable kittens of which you can give your undivided attention to, whilst sipping on a cuppa. #1 MEOMI CAT CAFÉ

The latest addition to the cat cafe scene is Meomi Cat Café. The cafe itself is tiny but its cosy space offers patrons a nice afternoon getaway. With plenty of comfortable seating areas and a variety of adorable kitties roaming around, there is no doubt you will be stuck there for hours.

Meomi’s collection of in-house cats is especially unique: be sure to look out for Mario, the resident munchkin cat. Short-legged and incredibly cute.

#2 NEKO NO NIWA

Neko No Niwa is the cat café that started it all in Singapore. The owners are firm believers of adopting instead of buying, so all 13 cats living at Neko No Niwa are adopted to save them from abandonment. A noble belief, one in which more animal enthusiasts should stand by.

With so many playful kitties running around, the positive energy this cafe exudes is boundless and makes for a great afternoon chill-out spot with other fellow cat lovers.

#3 THE COMPANY OF CATS

Located in the Chinatown area, The Company of Cats started out as a clubhouse for a bunch of feline buddies to gather, do a little yoga, get high on catnip and bask in sunbeams.

The clean and comfortable environment allows you to kick off your shoes and curl up with a cuppa and a kitty on your lap.

Cover charge: S$14 for the first hour (S$10 from Tuesdays to Fridays until 3pm).

#4 THE CAT CAFÉ

The Cat Café offers freshly brewed coffee, fragrant teas, baked pastries and adorable felines of various breeds which you can get up close and personal with. The beauty in The Cat Café is the fact that they do not practice a time limit.

Instead, the cover charge is based on per entry, which means that you can spend as much time as you like bonding with their resident kitties.

Cover charge: S$15 per entry (inclusive of a soft drink) and cat treats at S$3.

Neko no Niwa, Singapore’s first cat cafe, is officially opening today. Located at Boat Quay, the cafe is named Neko no Niwa, which means ‘cat garden’ in Japanese.

For the uninitiated, a pet cafe is a theme cafe where you pay a time-based fee to watch and play with the residing pets while you have your drink and desserts.

When we were in Seoul earlier this year, we discovered many cats and dogs cafes, and it made us wonder why no one thought of opening a similar concept in Singapore, Now there is finally a place for cat lovers to gather. Neko no Niwa has 13 resident cats, and it is charging S$12/pax for the first hour, and S$5/pax for the subsequent 1/2 hour block. Now, we hope someone will open a dog cafe in Singapore next!
