Move aside rainbow cakes, because there is finally an outrageous colourful rendition of savouries – and we are totally digging this novelty!

Cheese Toast Specialist Kala Toast is located in Tsuen Wan, New Territories, Hong Kong, but its far-flung location has not stopped unicorn lovers from making a special trip down to savour their signature rainbow grilled cheese sandwiches.

Is this yet another gimmicky food or actually a legit tasty grilled cheese sandwich? You decide.

A regular cheese toast here starts from HK$26/ S$4.90, while a king-size cheese toast starts from HK$33/ S$5.80.

There are currently 11 flavours on the menu, but everyone goes there for their bestselling KALAful Choice (regular – HK$35/ S$6.15, king-size – HK$42/ S$7.20).

It is interesting to note that each colour essentially represents one flavour. Blue is lavender, green is basil, red is tomato and yellow comprises a combination of cheddar, emmental, gruyere and mozzarella.

If these rainbow cheese are insufficient as stuffings, you can choose to add on toppings such as caramelised onions (HK$3/ S$0.50), Korean pork belly (HK$5/ S$0.90), beef chilli con carne (HK$5/ S$0.90) and Italian bolognese (HK$5/ S$0.90).

Don’t get too caught up with taking photos that you forget to enjoy your toasts warm! You would want to eat them before the cheese hardens.

Rainbow Cheese Toasties looks set to be the next trend to hit Singapore.

For those who have not heard of the Rainbow Cheese Toasties  (also known as unicorn toasties), KALA Toast – a sandwich shop in Tsuen Wan, New Territories in Hong Kong - first created it and they have been appearing on everyone’s Instagram since. Many cities are also jumping on the bandwagon to serving their own versions of the unicorn toasties.

And now, you can get a rainbow cheese toast in Singapore too!

Epicurious Cafe at Robertson Quay has just introduced its own version of the Rainbow Cheese Toasties (S$9) today.

According to Epicurious Cafe, its Unicorn Toasties is coloured with REAL FOOD and just a tiny amount of food colouring. The toasties’ colours are achieved with red cabbage (violet), carrot (orange), spinach (green) and beetroot (pink).

It is mind-boggling to say the least, and to know that the colouring ain’t entirely chemicals sure made us feel more assured about putting that colourful thing in our mouths.

Epicurious is serving the Rainbow Cheese Toasties on its daily Blackboard Special in limited portions. Now if you want to have a go too, get there soon before the queue starts forming!
