Muji Singapore will be closing its Café&Meal Muji outlet at Jewel Changi Airport on 25 Oct 2020.

It will be operating from 12pm – 9pm on its last day of operation on next Monday. Meanwhile, Muji’s retail store at Jewel Changi Airport will still be operating as usual.

MUJI has been recognised as one of the most therapeutic places to shop at and has won the hearts of many. There is no denying that we are huge fans ourselves. And of course, the MUJI Cafe will be nothing short of a delight to be in.

At Café & Meal MUJI, expect simple fares with hints of Japanese influences executed using local ingredients. Their menu is kept simple – with set meals, a main dish, desserts and a variety of drinks to choose from.

Fans of Café&Meal Muji can go to their other two outlets at Plaza Singapura and Raffles City.

If going through WWII means we get to live on sweet potatoes every day, so be it. Okay, not really. But, you get our point- we can’t get enough of this delicious root vegetable, which comes in all kinds of shapes and colours.

Not to mention, they’re actually really healthy as well. Brimming with fibre, antioxidants and Vitamin A, these superfoods are great for your body. But, we’re going to ditch the health talk for now because that’s not what we’re about today.

As their name suggests, sweet potatoes are basically a godsent vegetable for the sweet-toothed. They absolutely thrive in the realm of desserts. So, for all the ‘han tze’ lovers, we’ve rounded up 10 spots in Singapore that turn sweet potatoes into wondrous mouthwatering treats!

Their honey sweet potatoes are imported straight from Korea, and are endowed with natural sugars that slowly caramelise as they bake in the oven. Some say it’s just as good or even better than Don Don Don Ki’s famed sweet potatoes.

Aside from their tea selection, they have an impressive line-up of desserts. One of them is the Sweet Potato Cake (S$7.80), which sees purple sweet potato-infused sponge cake layered with luscious cream jammed with yellow sweet potato cubes.

One wouldn’t expect much of a crowd at The Plaza, a shady-looking centre a stone’s throw from Bugis — let alone in its basement. But that’s exactly what you’ll find within the perimeters of June Bakery, an old-school family-run bakery.

When it comes to this under-the-radar gem, it’s fastest fingers first. Their Sweet Potato Mochi stuffed with creamy yam paste and rolled in ground peanuts sounds like an absolute dream. And it is, which is why these sell out within an hour or so.

If there was ever an ang ku kueh beauty pageant, Kueh Ho Jiak would win Miss Universe, hands down. You’ll find a wide range of intricately shaped kuehs at this stall, stuffed with varying flavours such as durian, red bean and yam.

They also have sweet potato ondeh ondeh, which promises a burst-in-your-mouth sensation.

Pair them with fried chicken for that classic fried-chicken-and-waffle combo or with ice cream for a sweet ending to your meal.

WHISKIT BAKERY & CAFE – SWEET POTATO MONT BLANC

With their opulent pastries and cakes at affordable price points, it’s a real mystery why this quiet patisserie isn’t getting way more attention. Run by a Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef, Whiskit Bakery & Cafe does some really intriguing desserts.

Besides a handful of mainstays, their dessert menu works on a rotational basis. So, if you see their Sweet Potato Mont Blanc on display that day, you’d better get it. The strings of purple sweet potato paste hide a blueberry-infused filling, making for a strangely harmonious pairing.

Famous for its minimalistic and woody designs, Muji will be opening their third hotel in Ginza, Tokyo on 4 April 2019 along with its global flagship store. Here’s what fans of the brand can look forward to!

The building will boast a diner and six retail floors and the remaining 4 levels of the 10-storey building will be occupied by the hotel. Imagine staying, shopping and eating all in one place!

Photos of the interior of the hotel have yet to be released, but we can expect them to look a lot like their other 2 branches in Shenzhen and Beijing.

As they aim to move towards being more environmentally friendly, MUJI Ginza will also not be providing plastic bags and plastic straws.
