The culinary team prides themselves on being produce-driven. They source for the freshest, quality ingredients daily to prepare every single dish on the menu.

The menu is not the most affordable one, but it is a comprehensive one, to say the least. It is divided into brunch, lunch, tea time, dinner and drinks. With a wide array of choices from sharing platters, sandwiches, pizzas to desserts, there is absolutely something for every taste bud.

What you really must not miss the world for is Sam’s Signature Laksa (RM42). It is no ordinary laksa but it is one that will have you fall in love with laksa if you don’t already love it. The broth is robust and boasts a multi-layered flavour that embodies the freshness of flower crab, big head prawn and poached chicken—on top of the underlying note of laksa pesto and homemade chilli paste.

The accompanying ingredients include quail eggs, julienned fish cakes and silver sprouts. It was a truly satisfying bowl, one that would make us want to return to Botanica + Co Restaurant & Bar for.

On the drinks menu, the options are aplenty but if you are not a big fan of cocktails, try the homemade sodas (RM19). They have pretty interesting concoctions such as Pandan & Lime Soda, Kaffir Lime & Lemongrass Cooler and Watermelon & Lychee Mint Soda.

Sitting within Chocha Foodstore is Botakliquor. The 6-month old bar sits on the mezzanine of the popular bistro and it is every botanical lover’s dream come true. Botakliquor is easily one of the most photogenic and talked-about bars in Kuala Lumpur now.

With a well-curated menu of cocktails stemming mainly from gin, vodka and rum, this charming bar is definitely worthy of being on your itinerary when you visit Kuala Lumpur.

Step into Chocha Foodstore and you’d be transported to the old Malaya—green tiled floors, tungsten lights, wooden tables and everything 70′s. The old-school and relatively (or deliberately) run-down interior exudes a rustic charm that gets to you almost instantaneously.

Take the spiral stairs up and you’ll find yourself in a space that’s very unexpected of a bar; sofa seats from the old days and more old-school patterned floor tiles, everything but what you’d find in a bar.

But that’s the charm of Botakliquor. Pots after pots of plants hanging from the ceiling, and more plants at every corner of the bar; we told you this is every botanical lover’s heaven.

The menu is no-nonsense. These guys go straight to the point—you can either select the house cocktails or build your own. For the house concoctions, pick from botanical and exotic, depending on the type of taste you’re inclined to.

The Rice & Pandan (RM34) is a popular choice. Featuring gin, fragrant rice flavoured coconut water and pandan oil, this lightly fragrant cocktail is easy to drink, though we would have preferred the pandan flavour to be stronger.

There is also a whisky-based cocktail. The Sweet Peas x Elderflower (RM38) comprises vintage whisky, sweet peas, organic elderflower cordial and lemon.

If all else fails, build your own cocktail. Pick your poison—there are more than 30 types of gin, and there are also pisco, tequila, rum and vodka options. Prices start from RM25 onwards.

Then, choose your tonic (RM8). And if you fancy a more layered drink, there is also a range of fruits, herbs and spices to add on.

Coffee Amo is a popular cafe in Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown, or otherwise more commonly known as Petaling Street. With its centralised location, many come to this cafe to rest their weary feet after shopping or to enjoy afternoon tea with their friends.

“Amo” translates to love in Italian and that is exactly what the baristas put into brewing your coffee—lots of love. Their speciality coffee which comes with 3D coffee art has been making rounds on Instagram, attracting both locals and tourists into the cafe.

If you are around the area, why not drop by and have a cuppa or two?

Located on the second level of a shophouse, visitors have to climb up a flight of stairs to reach Coffee Amo. The interiors are kept simple and the place is adorned with landscape pictures of scenery and chalk drawings on the walls.

A trip to Coffee Amo is only complete when you order their specialty drinks. Sweet 16 (RM16/S$5.30) is a latte infused with hints of hazelnut flavour and came with just the right blend of sweet and bitter for us. Of course, you can also choose to add in more sugar.

And can we just take a second to appreciate how adorable the foam kitten is? The skilled barista took less than five minutes to craft this out for us.

On the other hand, the Cheesecake (RM10/S$3.30) was like any average ones you can find outside—moist and comes with a simple biscuit base. We would say to skip the food and focus on the drinks instead, which is what Coffee Amo is known for.

If you are looking for something more exotic, go for the Kenya PB Kirimara, Ethiopia Sidamo Bensa or Panama Auromar Geisha.

Acme Bar & Coffee’s Cappuccino (RM15++/ S$5++) tasted just like any good cappuccino you would find elsewhere. We liked that it was creamy with a hint of bitterness from the espresso. Sugar cubes are given at the side for those who prefer it to be sweeter.

Going there for their mains? You can choose from the Baked Seabass Parcel & Rice (RM35++/ S$11.70++), Grilled Marinated Lamb Shoulder (RM57++/ S$19++) and a range of pasta dishes.

There is no lack of good cafes along Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur and besides the popular Merchant’s Lane, one up and coming dining establishment joining the cafe scene is Chocha Foodstore.

Although the cafe is housed in a rundown building, we fell in love with it at first sight with the charming retro interior and impeccable attention to details. Beyond that, food on Chocha Foodstore’s menu consists of local favourites that come with a creative twist.

It is a fantastic place for a casual lunch or tea with your friends.

Upon entering the cafe, visitors are greeted with old wooden tables, exposed light bulbs and an open staircase that leads up to the second floor. Do note that guests are not allowed to go up to the next level.

Every corner of Chocha Foodstore makes for great OOTD backgrounds which you are unlikely to find elsewhere.

Head to the cafe early if you would like to choose your own seating, for it gets very busy during lunch time. Those who are seated at the long tables in the courtyard can expect to share the table with other diners and you can even make a friend or two.

Duck Confit Rice (RM26++/ S$8.70++) at Chocha Foodstore comes with generous slices of juicy duck meat accompanied with a slightly overdone ajitama egg and plenty of vegetables. The addition of chewy barley rice gave it an interesting texture when mixed with white rice.

And saving the best for the last—the Cincalok Fried Chicken (RM26++/ S$8.70++). This fragrant crispy chicken really deserves a special mention because of how well it tasted both on its own and together with fresh salsa.

Spice lovers have to polish off the homemade tomato chutney which gives the chicken an extra spicy kick.

Other food items on the menu you can look forward to include the Kerabu Mango Rojak (RM20++/ S$6.70++), Crispy Chili Squid (RM24++/ S$8++) and Biang Biang Inspired Noodles (RM18++/ S$6++).

VCR is housed within a double-storey dark-grey shophouse, and is the ultimate hipster brunch place to check out. We thorough enjoyed the Soft Shell Crab Burger (RM$24) – a tasty battered crustacean sandwiched between two lightly toasted fluffy brioches. Highly recommended!
