Sitting within Chocha Foodstore is Botakliquor. The 6-month old bar sits on the mezzanine of the popular bistro and it is every botanical lover’s dream come true. Botakliquor is easily one of the most photogenic and talked-about bars in Kuala Lumpur now.

With a well-curated menu of cocktails stemming mainly from gin, vodka and rum, this charming bar is definitely worthy of being on your itinerary when you visit Kuala Lumpur.

Step into Chocha Foodstore and you’d be transported to the old Malaya—green tiled floors, tungsten lights, wooden tables and everything 70′s. The old-school and relatively (or deliberately) run-down interior exudes a rustic charm that gets to you almost instantaneously.

Take the spiral stairs up and you’ll find yourself in a space that’s very unexpected of a bar; sofa seats from the old days and more old-school patterned floor tiles, everything but what you’d find in a bar.

But that’s the charm of Botakliquor. Pots after pots of plants hanging from the ceiling, and more plants at every corner of the bar; we told you this is every botanical lover’s heaven.

The menu is no-nonsense. These guys go straight to the point—you can either select the house cocktails or build your own. For the house concoctions, pick from botanical and exotic, depending on the type of taste you’re inclined to.

The Rice & Pandan (RM34) is a popular choice. Featuring gin, fragrant rice flavoured coconut water and pandan oil, this lightly fragrant cocktail is easy to drink, though we would have preferred the pandan flavour to be stronger.

There is also a whisky-based cocktail. The Sweet Peas x Elderflower (RM38) comprises vintage whisky, sweet peas, organic elderflower cordial and lemon.

If all else fails, build your own cocktail. Pick your poison—there are more than 30 types of gin, and there are also pisco, tequila, rum and vodka options. Prices start from RM25 onwards.

Then, choose your tonic (RM8). And if you fancy a more layered drink, there is also a range of fruits, herbs and spices to add on.
