Each of these bars boasts unrivalled panoramic scenic views of Hong Kong and offer a selection of irresistibly delicious handcrafted cocktails.
Source: Above

#1 ABOVE @ OVOLO

Situated at award-winning boutique Ovolo Southside Hotel, Above is an edgy rooftop bar tucked away from the chaotic city centre. Unlike most glitzy CBD roof top bars, the one-year-old rooftop bar actually features raw concrete floors, iconoclastic art pieces and an alternative 360-degree view of Aberdeen. The industrial-chic intimate space is frequented by both hipsters and yuppies alike who do not mind making a special trip to the south coast for Above.

Drop by Above at Ovolo Southside Hotel anytime between 5pm – 8pm to enjoy the two-for-one happy hour promotion on selected alcoholic beverages. Customers should also seize this opportunity to catch the glowing sun slowly descend into the South China Sea’s horizon. Their impressive drinks menu has been carefully curated by their talented mixologists and signature cocktails include Jiggy Jiggy (HK$113+ / S$20.82+) and Dirty Uncle (HK$103+ / S$18.98+).

#2 AQUA

On a hunt for a fantastic view of Hong Kong? Head to award-winning establishment Aqua which spans across two upper levels of the One Peking building. Its floor-to-ceiling glass windows unveil a view so extraordinary that it is hard to not be impressed. Prices are fairly steep so do expect to pay between HK$148+ / S$26+ to HK$188+ / S$33+ for a cocktail concoction.

It is no surprise that Aqua Spirit Bar is well-loved by the media for its mind-blowing view and elaborate decors.

#3 FOFO BY EL WILLY

Perched atop of the unassuming M88 shopping mall along Wellington Street, first-timers to FoFo by El Willy’s Roof Top Bar might face some challenges finding it. Visitors have to walk through an unassuming tiny walkway and past the concierge to get to the lift lobby (you are on the right track when your friends start questioning if M88 is a residential building instead).

The roof top bar bar is located right above the fancy Spanish restaurant. Instead of walking into the fine dining establishment, head straight for the adjacent stairwell and an urban sanctuary awaits upstairs. Do note that both the bar and restaurant are under the same company, hence you would be making your payment at the restaurant below after.

The panoramic view of its surroundings is nothing short of spectacular and every angle is just yet another great photography opportunity. We love their refreshing signature mixed fruit Sangrias (HK$75+ per glass / S$13.82+ per glass) that are available in the white, red and even pink! We actually love this roof top bar so much that we are going to rate it five out of five.

#6 SEVVA

Located on the 25th storey of Prince’s Building, Sevva is the place to be and to be seen – with an unsurprisingly hefty price tag. Patrons get to enjoy a spellbindingly beautiful panoramic view of the glitzy city centre that will have you scurrying for your camera.

With the HSBC Building and Bank of China Tower in unbelievably close proximity, Sevva is a favourite haunt amongst those in the banking sector. Sevva is a great business meeting venue and also a perfect location for a romantic date. You can admire a bird’s eye view of the Old Supreme Court Building and admire the Hong Kong Ferris Wheel from afar.

Do be reminded that you would have to adhere to Sevva’s smart casual dress code; refrain wearing flip flops, shorts and singlets or risk being refused entry. From Cucumber Starfruit Martini (HK$195+ / S$35.94+) to Dark Chocolate Martini (HK$195+ / S$35.94+), you are a bound to find a drink you fancy from the comprehensive alcoholic beverage menu.

#7 SKY LOUNGE

For an uninterrupted performance of The Symphony Of Lights, we suggest you to head to Sheraton Hong Kong’s Sky Lounge. Located on level 18, guests get to watch the world’s largest permanent light and sound show without having to endure the suffocating crowds at Victoria Harbour. Minimum spending applies at HK$150 / S$27.50 per person so we reckon you sit back, relax and enjoy the daily 8pm show with a cocktail in your hands!

The dimly-lit Sky Lounge with its opulent intricate interiors and the magnificent view of Hong Kong’s cityscape will certainly fit the bill for a romantic date. With over 400 imported international wines, there is surely one that will catch yours or your date’s fancy. Here’s a tipoff – those who are visiting on their birthdays will also get to enjoy a complimentary cocktail upon presenting their passport or identification cards.

#8 SUGAR

Located in Tai Koo, Sugar’s seemingly far-flung location (when compared to the bars in Causeway Bay and Central) might put off the uptown girl in you. But do not let that be a deterrent factor. The 3-in-1 bar, deck and lounge events venue is perched atop Business East Hotel; with an ultra sleek interior, sweepings view of Hong Kong, exciting concoctions and residential DJs spinning house and electronic music, Sugar is truly befitting of its media hype.

The best part of visiting a relatively remote bar in the outskirts of Hong Kong’s CBD is that alcoholic drinks are far way more affordable! You get to indulge in a glass of Sauvignon Blanc White Wine for just HK$60+ / S$11+ and an excellent cocktail concoction from HK$60+ / S$11+ too. What a steal! Frequent bar hoppers in Hong Kong will know that they would not be able to get an alcoholic drink at that price in areas such as Causeway Bay and Wan Chai.

#9 WOOLOOMOOLOO (WAN CHAI)

The renowned steakhouse is famous for their steaks and their Wan Chai outlet has caused quite a scene amongst foodies and avid drinkers with their inviting rooftop lounge. Do note that the open air outdoor terrace is only opened from 3pm and their resident DJ only starts spinning at 7pm (no music on Mondays).

Drop by Wooloomooloo (Wan Chai) in the late afternoon to witness the dazzling transformation of Hong Kong’s daytime landscape evolving into mesmerising illuminated city lights. The ravishing sunset will leave you breathless and have you wondering why you did discover this awesome place earlier. Steaks cooked to perfection with a billion dollar view combined with premium wines? Yes, please.

Al’s Diner is an American diner in the day but when daylight wanes away, they are best remembered for their tasty yet lethal vodka jello shots (HK$38 / S$6.60 each) that comes in a variety of flavours – choose from blackcurrant, orange, lime or mango.

The bar-cum-restaurant is also a favourite destination amongst sporting fans to catch their favourite team in action on live broadcast.

There is always something to look forward to at Hong Kong, and there is always something to keep us returning. Here are 29 reasons why we love Hong Kong.

#2 BOBA BEAR

Boba Bear Soho is hands down Hong Kong’s best shisha lounge. One can choose to smoke their hookah from the traditional Egyptian Khail Mamoon shisha (HK$270 / S$46.90) or from the modern Russian glass glowing art shisha (HK$350 / S$60.80) which changes colour with its built-in LED lights.

Prices are way steeper when compared to other shisa bars as Boba Bear Soho uses coconut coal instead of the typical quick-light hookah charcoal. Coconut charcoal is odorless, tasteless and can burn significantly longer, whereas instant-lights are actually a lot more toxic.

From white gummy bear to sex on the beach, the hipster hookah bar offers over 40 interesting shisha flavours. You can even choose to mix the flavours!

First-timers to FoFo by El Willy’s Rooftop Bar might face some challenges finding it. Visitors have to walk through an unassuming tiny walkway of M88 Shopping Mall and past the concierge to get to the lift lobby (you are on the right track when your friends start questioning if M88 is a residential building instead).

The rooftop bar is located right above the fancy Spanish restaurant. Instead of walking into the fine dining establishment, head straight for the adjacent stairwell and an urban sanctuary awaits upstairs. Do note that both the bar and restaurant are under the same company, hence you would be making your payment at the restaurant below after.

The panoramic view of its surroundings is nothing short of spectacular and every angle poses yet another great photography opportunity. We love their refreshing signature mixed fruit Sangrias (HK$75 / S$13.80 per glass) that are available in the white, red and even pink! We actually love this rooftop bar so much that we are going to rate it five out of five.
