Mookata Traditional Thai BBQ is one of the pioneer mookata F&B establishments in Singapore. Located at Bugis Junction, this outlet is a convenient and affordable lunch option for people working around the area.

From Monday to Friday, this 120-minutes lunch buffet (S$14.90) offers free flow drinks and ice cream on top of an array of meats, seafood and vegetables. As part of the buffet spread,, they even have a homemade chili sauce with three different levels of spiciness. They also have a 90-minutes dinner option at S$25.90 per person.

#9 SEDAP THAI MOOKATA

This no-frills halal-certified mookata in Jalan Bersar replaces pork with chicken and beef, making it one of the few places where Muslims can enjoy mookata. The stall offers a meat and seafood platter for 2 pax at only S$20.

Each platter includes more than 10 items so you get a good variety of ingredients. All a la carte dishes are priced from S$1.50 per plate, while premium items such as beef slices and fresh prawns are priced at S$2.50 per plate.

A 15-minute walk from Khatib MRT station, Soi 51 Mookata (Yishun) is located at the coffee shop in Acacia Breeze housing estate where you can dine amidst lush greenery.

Priced at S$22 per adult, diners can feast on a free-flow buffet that features more than 50 different options including scallops, mussels and a variety of marinated meats. However, the eatery does not offer beverages.

#11 THAI HAO CHI MOOKATA

With its brightly lit ‘Mookata’ sign board, it is hard to miss this place. What makes Thai Hao Chi Mookata special is the use of charcoal stoves instead of gas stoves to cook the meats—resulting in a fragrant, smoky aroma.

This humble eatery also offers MSG free soup base. For S$39.90, the Mookata Set (2-3pax) includes chicken, pork belly, prawns, squids, vegetables and pork liver.

The Mookata Empire is not only known for its affordable prices but also their superb service. Situated in Ang Mo Kio, this eatery is probably one of the cheapest ones out there. Each platter set for 2-3 pax is only S$25.80, while a Platter Set for 4-6 pax is priced at S$43.80.

Besides the platter sets, diners can also opt for the a la carte items starting at S$1.90 per plate. The best part? There are no extra charges for the free-slow soup!

If you stay in the West of Singapore, or in the vicinity of Bukit Timah, you would have tried either Al-Azhar or Al-Ameen. Indian Muslim food is always a good choice for supper, be it the sinful prata or a lovely plate of Mee Goreng, But guess what? Bukit Timah actually has more to offer!

5. JALAN KAYU

When at Jalan Kayu, eat prata, of course! Prata is a fail-proof supper option, and Thasevi Restaurant at Jalan Kayu is our all-time favourite. We’ve been patrons since we were kids! Those who are looking for a place to chill with bar grub and beers should consider One Place Bistro & Bar.

For something light, go to Selegie Soya Bean for some silky smooth beancurd and piping hot dough fritters. Tang Teahouse also offers consistently good dim sum.

The renowned Punggol Nasi Lemak is situated at a coffee shop that also offers other great eats. We especially love Yi Ji Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee there which we dub as one of the best in Singapore. There are also a few Teochew porridge stalls that open till late.

7. LITTLE INDIA 

Everybody comes here for Swee Choon and we can understand why. Not only is their Dim Sum delicious, it is extremely inexpensive. Of course, how can you miss out on the rich flavours of Indian cuisine at Khansama Tandoori Restaurant and Indian Mom’s Kitchen?

For something substantial and hearty, a meal at Beach Road Scissor-Cut Curry Rice will do the trick.

While everybody flocks to Spize like a magnet after drinking or partying, we prefer dining at its next door neighbour, Al Afrose. The Indian Muslim food here is delicious, less expensive and the portions are much bigger.

Otherwise, there are also popular chicken rice stalls that open until late including Boon Tong Kee and Five Star Hainanese.

9. SERANGOON GARDENS

We frequent Chomp Chomp for mouthwatering BBQ Seafood. Sambal Stingray is probably one of the best dishes to get here, together with some La-La (Clams) and Sambal Kang Kong.

Both Srisun Express and RK Eating House satisfy our late-night cravings for teh towers and Indian-Muslim cuisine. Round your meal off at Oblong where you can get crispy waffles and interesting ice cream flavours.

Where to park: There are parking lots everywhere around Serangoon Gardens.

10. SIMPANG BEDOK

Simpang Bedok’s frontrunner is definitely Spize. While it might not be our favourite restaurant in Singapore, we certainly still love the food that is served here.

Other options you have at Simpang Bedok include New Mahamoodiya Restaurant and Syed Restaurant.

11. TANJONG KATONG ROAD

Another Punggol Nasi Lemak outlet? Sign us up. We just cannot get enough of it. Farther down Tanjong Katong Road is the OneKM Mall, where Beauty In The Pot is at.

For a selection of Western and Asian choices under one roof, Bar Bar Black Sheep should be in your list too.

12. UPPER THOMSON ROAD

We are loyal customers of Meng Kitchen and the Minced Meat Noodles here is heavenly, especially when it is late at night and you are starving. Fatboy’s The Burger Bar also opens late here if you have a hankering for burgers.
