There was a point in time when someone thought to put desserts inside flower pots, crush cookies or Oreo biscuits into bits to use as ‘soil’, and stick an artificial plant or flower on it because it looks pretty cool.

Granted, we were amused and delighted when we had our first “flower pot dessert”.

With cafes and restaurant following suit on this trend, we went on a mission to hunt down the best ones in Singapore. Some places squish cakes inside their pots, some simply use cream or other fillings; they are really pretty varied.

Nevertheless, these 5 Flower Pot Desserts in Singapore to Try have proven to us that they not only look good, but they have a taste that supersedes its slightly gimmicky physical shell.

#1 BANANA TREE

As one of the first flower pot desserts we ever tried, Banana Tree set the standards high with the Flower Paap (S$6.50).

Stuffed generously with banana pudding, the rich banana taste, Oreo soil and chocolate pebbles is a winning combination. The pudding had a nice texture and it went well with the crunchy bits scattered on top.

#2 DOUBLE SCOOPS

We cannot deny that this was not our favourite thing on the menu. However, since Double Scoops’ gelato is so fresh and fantastic, the whole dessert was actually worth the while.

The Gelato Flower Pot here is stuffed to the brim with a gelato of your choice, then finished off with Oreo soil, gummy worms and an adorable shovel spoon. The kids will love it!

#3 FART TARTZ CAFE

The flower pot desserts here are aptly named ‘Mud Tarts’ (S$5.50) and they come in a variation of flavours that vary from time to time. We have also read that some customers even reserve certain flavours in case it gets sold out early in the day!

Some flavours include Snickers Oreo Mud Tart, Mango Mud Tart and more. fArt tArtz also vary their designs of their mud tarts with different colourful artificial flowers.

#4 MEZZA9

The flower pot dessert at mezza9 in Grant Hyatt Singapore is one to marvel at and it is easily the best we’ve had in town.

The dessert (S$16) consists of caramel sea salt ice-cream, chocolate soil, mint leaves, flowers and berries, so essentially, it is a fancy bowl of ice cream sundae. And guess what? If you are having afternoon tea at 10 Scotts, this is a rotational item and if you are lucky enough, you can enjoy it free flow!

#5 VANILLA BAR & CAFE

The Dirt Cake (S$9.90) did not exactly impress us when it reached our table because it paled in comparison in terms of presentation compared to the others on this list but it surprised us upon first bite.

The filling is of a plain rich cream cake and there was something about the overall taste of each bite that made it extra tasty. Can’t always judge a book by its cover, that’s right.
