Stepping into Anchor Café, you will immediately smell freshly brewed coffee and the slight hint of cake.

Food specials and single-origin brews of the day are scribbled onto a huge chalkboard behind where the baristas work. Cakes and pastries are displayed on wooden cake stands, giving it a homely rustic vibe.

We tried their Carrot Cake (IDR60,000/ S$5.70) and their Caramel Apple Pie (IDR45,000/ S$4.30).

Their carrot cake was moist and fluffy, but the cream could have been less sweet. However, the cream cheese flavour was strong and complemented the cake well. Their caramel apple pie was delicious as well, though bordering on the sweet side. The best part was the crust – flaky and buttery.

Another big highlight was their Skillet Brownie (IDR80,000/ S$7.60). It was an ooey-gooey chocolatey brownie, baked into a piping hot skillet pan, topped with vanilla ice cream. It ws super rich and fudgy and the vanilla ice cream prevented the brownie from getting too gelak. It’s definitely a super indulgent dessert that’s perfect for chocolate lovers.

Other than their sweets, they specialize in their extensive range of Single-Origin brews, rotating the beans they roast daily. Anchor prides themselves in encouraging sustainability of the coffee trade through their good relations with coffee-bean farmers. Each origin produces a unique flavour profile, so give these speciality coffees a try over your typical mocha or cappuccino.

If you’re here for a meal, Anchor Café also serves up Southern-inspired brunch foods like their Anchor Eggs Benedict (100,000IDR/S$9.50) and their Wild Berry Granola Crunch French Toast (70,000IDR, S$6.65). For lunch and dinner, they offer a range of burgers and their Double Barrelled Grilled Cheese (60,000IDR/S$5.70) as well.
