Yes the North is definitely missing but what about the West???! Butcher Cafe in Kingsville, Cobb Lane in Yarravile, Common Galaxia in Seddon, Rudimentary in Footscray to name just a few….

You haven’t mentioned ‘Sunmoth Cafe’ Niagara Lane off Little Bourke Street. Amazing atmosphere, great coffee, great service and delicious food choices that are so wholesome like Beef Cheek with creamy polenta. Yum

We love good food and coffee in the northern suburbs too. Try Expresso Joes drive through on Sydney Rd Coburg, Jack and Daisy’s in Cumberland Rd Pascoe Vale (great food and coffee) or La Stradina in West St Hadfield

my most fav is Tom Dick and Harry just off Chapel Street on Toorak Road. The coffee is to die for and the food is even better!!! Staff are amazingly friendly and well worth the try. Healthy salads and muesli in the front cabinets and the Reuben burger for lunch is indulgently good. The only cafe for me now.

I think you need to explore Melbourne more. You haven’t listed any in Richmond, St Kilda, Hawthorn and only 1 in South Yarra. But yes there are some good choices here.

After living in Melbourne for almost 10 years. The only thing that Melbourne is really famous for is its high quality of coffee (I swear Im the most picky coffee drinker now) and the number of cafes around . They spawn like 7-Elevens, appearing around the corner almost everywhere. Personal faves, Three Bags Full, Chez Dre and Seven Seeds. The above list is like the inner Melbourne Urban Spoon top cafe list, there are so so so many unknown ones out there that are also top quality and the food gets more and more creative when you move away from the mainstream cafes into the suburbs.

Not much mention of cafes in the inner north like Code Black and LoLo and wren. Where food and coffee are both great. Maybe it is best as they are the locals best kept ‘secret’.

Don’t mention Patricia dammit! The queue out the door on weekday mornings is quite long enough. Seriously though, while Patricia isn’t somewhere you can go for a meal or even a sit down, they make the best coffee I’ve had in the CBD.

I lived in Melbourne for 3 years and some cafes you’ve mentioned were great! My personal favourites are Breakfast Thieves (French toast), Hammer & Tong, Chez Dre (overall), and Kettle Black (Ricotta Hotcakes)! Would recommend Baba Sus for Hong Kong style egg waffles, Axil Coffee Roasters for Red Velvet pancakes with black sesame ice cream and Touchwood for waffles as well! On the other hand Operator 25 (matcha hotcakes was just ok), Krimper (been there twice and wasn’t that great), Hardware Societe (pricey and just OK food cause it’s in CBD) and St Ali (only the My Mexican Cousin was good) were just OK though.
