What is arguably among the best cafes in Melbourne is The Hardware Société.
So, prior to our trip to Melbourne, we heard so much about The Hard Société. It is extremely popular among both locals and visitors, and the daily queue says it all. It was breakfast for us one breezy morning, and we endured a wait of about twenty minutes before we were seated at the outdoors.
But we can understand why early birds choose to start their day there, though. The space is lively, inviting and very unpretentious. Some may debate about them being overrated and that it is not worth queuing up for, but we thought a meal at The Hardware Société was quite worth the wait. A cafe led by an exuberant team who are passionate about their food and coffee, together with comfort Australian fare and aromatic brews – what’s there to not love?
Anyway, we were so spoilt for choice with its relatively large menu. Breakfast is a huge deal to them Australians, yes. But don’t get too distracted, because these folks are known for their Baked Eggs (AUD $18) and yes, they are irresistible.
Everyone raves about their Baked Eggs, and we knew we had to get one of that to share. There are two options – one with vegetables and one with chorizo. Of course, we picked the latter for it packs more punch.
We also had The Picnic Board; it was as satisfying as it looked photogenic. For AUD $20, you get a sumptuous serving of confit drumstick, cured meats, free range eggs and pickles. This seemed like a popular choice among diners, and we counted so many tables around us who ordered the board too.
Well of course, do not leave without a cappuccino. What is breakfast without coffee?
