I find this article need to highlight long term impact of such decision and then let audience decide for themselves. I have met quite few friends who did this in their 20 and 30s. Now they regretted their decisions as in their 30s now they still can’t afford a place of their own and still forking out rental money every month.
I still think balance is the key. Save enough for future but allocate small amount for enjoyment. I am a realist. Not every ne is lucky like this author with no dependents at home and no financial burdens.
I didn’t travel in my 20. Missed abit of fun. Now I have own house and travel all the times. And never experience more financial freedom like now.
Choose wisely your lifestyle after careful consideration. One man’s meat another poison. Weight your own situation carefully.

Great article. So many people I meet seem to want to do this, but will never take the plunge. I am heading off soon to travel indefinitely. This of course bring its own risks, but there are just so many potential benefits. When compared to the 9-5 routine, I just can’t see a reason not to do it!

I think this post is only referring to the singles, married and don’t intend to have children, or even individuals with no financial burden. It should be highlighted from the start.

More than often if you’re married, you’re accountable to the other half if one is out of job and still paying for the house loan. It is really not as simple as ‘whee.. im gonna quit my job today’.

And whether you can find a job after you left from the society is another issue, it depends on your age also. At 30s, i don’t think the chance is high as you’re competing with the 20s. The writer managed to get job offers because she is good in writing, i’m sure many would want to recruit her.

Just my humble opinion.

Couldn’t agree more!
I did exactly just that and took off solo for a year round the world. The friendships were priceless, experiences surreal and definitely life-changing! My advice to friends since is to take the first leap of courage (book your air-tickets) and the rest will follow.

I’d caveat this with one caution though – life is never quite the same upon returning to a 9-6 deskbound job
