Hi I'd like to recommend this: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g187870-d696559-Reviews-Gam_Gam_Kosher_Restaurant-Venice_Veneto.html

Gam Gam restaurant from the jewish district in Venice, near the railway station. It was recommended to us from our local host. Average price per pasta dish is around 9euro and it's very authentic, like what you get from your grandmother. hehe.. I mean the taste is really something. and there's no cover charge, even bring you a jug of water with lemon in it, FREE. beer is cheap and ambience is nice. There is not many choices there, but we ate two types of meat pasta, the salmon pasta , all were superb.

Hi again,

Appreciate your response. It's our third and final day in venice now. We've been to Al Muro for drinks twice now, it's really a great spot to relax, especially since they brought out a tv for world cup. All Arco was closed last evening so we missed it. Went to San Bartholomeo on our first day for risotto and squid ink pasta and it was pretty decent.

There's a take out pasta joint called Alfredo (ranked 2 on tripadvisor) that is really good with fresh pasta and sauces; bumped into a bunch of fellow Singaporeans there last evening too.

Hello Ben & Geri, I am sorry to hear about the poor experience that you all had at Alla Basilica. We had a pretty decent meal when we were there, and I thought that the prices were reasonable, which was why I recommended it. How many more days do you have in Venice? Did you manage to try the other places on this list?

dear ladyironchef,

my wife and I had our lunch at Alla Basilica today, and it was the worst meal of our last 5 days in Italy. the pasta course was barely passable (pastamania back home probably tastes better); the main (salmon) was overcooked while the side vegetables look and taste like it came out of a can. looking around, the food in front of all the diners appear just as abysmal.

perhaps things were different back when you ate at the place. but on our visit, the food was terrible and there were at least three large tables filled by tour groups; the telltale sign of a restaurant that has traded it's soul for money.

we are taking the trouble to write in because we met at least 2 Singaporean families at Alla Basilica, and speaking to one couple, we uncovered that they were there only because of your recommendation. consequently, we felt obliged to serve up a warning to future readers of your blog.

sincerely,
Ben & Geri
