I did a Google search about the cheapest massage places and ended up here. Thanks for the tips. I found even cheaper places (only for Thai massages) and yet very high standards. Nearby Huai khuang MRT, walk east on
Thanon pracharat Bamphen. About 3 to 6 minutes. You'll find 5 to 10 massage places. 1hr Thai massage for 180. 2 hours for 340. If you're like me and go to a massage on a daily basis, this helps with your budget.
With a 10% tip, you "should" insure a fairly good massage in my experience. I'm impressed with Thai massage, really. Compared to China, the price is twice as low and they do twice as much effort. They don't use too often their elbow while resting their hands.
I say that because some masseuges don't know how to apply pressure through elbow and it can be excruciatingly painful even for me who love strong ones.

Could someone pinpoint a cheaper place than 340 for 2 hrs?

NB: interesting how foot massages can be more expensive than Thai in some centres. In China, foot massages are always the cheapest, not exception.

I am nearing the end of a 7 week trip to Bangkok, Pattaya and other areas.
The first 10 days I could not find a decent quality massage.
Then I stopped by at a massage shop and ended up getting a daily massage there, since then I have dated the masseuse on a 24/7 basis.
Good result and great massages every day now

If you live in or are visiting the Thonglor area of Bangkok there is a very good massage shop I frequent called Tandy Massage in soi 53 (just a few doors up from Sukhumvit).
I completely agree that these places are good for having a massage. However I believe the best budget massage in Sukhumvit is Bai Po massage. Cheap prices and decent quality. Expats of bkk agree that this place is a place to go. !

Me and my wife just stepped out of Chang just 5 min ago. And the verdict is that this is possibly, the worst massage we have ever had. We were looking forward to a massage after a strenous day of shopping in bangkok. Noticing how that Lek's just further down was of good standard when we patronised them before, we felt that the author's review of both Chang and Lek should be of equal standing.

We opted for an hour's shoulder massage that would naturally include shoulder, back, neck and head massage. The masseuses began with back presses on our bones which was not at all relaxing, but was excruciating. She moved to sit on the top part of my buttock so that she can be more comfortable to massage my back which is fine but with each massage press, she rested her full body weight on me which was very uncomfortable for me.

I was sweating on my brows and neck throughout the massage and asked my wife how she was doing. She faced the exact same torturous experience as I. As the masseuses proceeded to our heads, she was just pressing hard on my temples. We decided to end the massage, or torture, prematurely. And as I am typing out this comment, I am dumbfounded as to how we decided to try Chang's in the first place. Please stay away. The overall feeling is that they don't have a clue what they were doing. I would however recommend So Thai Spa in Sukhumvit Soi 31, which is pricey for Bangkok's standard but it is worth every penny.

@Evewbb Lek used to be very good, but standards have dropped a lot. I went there twice during this trip, the first one was so bad that I had to ask them to change a masseur for me. The second one was great. So I think it is really hit and miss.

@LOL: Thank you for pointing that out, I have forgotten to edit from my draft to put in the treatment names.

Lek massage was pretty much the worst massage I had in Bangkok on my recent trip.. Not sure if they have too many customers and the massuers were tired.. The massuer was just touching my leg with no strength at all & was so immersed in watching TV..

Number one was great though for both times I was there..
