COMO Shambhala Estate is also a gorgeous place! Always a good place to wind down after a adrenaline pumping trip. Should check it out. :) Bali probably has some of the most consistently good waves in the world. You should rent a board and paddle out there sometime

Forget about hotels in Bali, even the Starwood group. I am Singaporean and have been traveling to Bali at least 3 times a year since my wedding there in 2008. Private villas are the way to go. Try to rent those with 3 to 7 bedrooms. You won't regret. Banyan, although lovely when I stayed, is still operating like a hotel outfit. Private villas are owned by individual owners and they rent them out when not in use by owners. They come with car, driver, chef, buttlers, gardeners, etc. You can see some photos of these from my visits on my instagram, Pei02.

I think Alila Uluwatu would be my top choice for this criteria.

Some pics:

My personal favorite resort is still The Laguna though. Still within the Starwood group and in my opinion better than St. Regis, with 1/2 the price!!

Agree with one of the previous comment that Mulia Bali is my favorite hotel thus far! Just newly opened and really popular with locals from all over the Indonesian archipelago. Perhaps you could do a review next time you're there!

Cheers.

i'm indonesian that lived for a long time in singapore. bali is one of favorite place to visit. i visit it up to 4 times a year, and 3 times this year already!!

i've stayed in all of these except the stones hotel. i think the four seasons, le meridien are pretty old hotels and there are many better ones if u are looking at jimbaran / nusa dua areas.

Mulia Bali, just opened in Jan 2013 is one of my favorite! i've stayed there twice out of 3 times this year (once in the normal room and once in a villa). the service and food is excellent, and its beach beautiful.

W hotel is very overpriced and unless you like to go Potato Head twice a day, i really dont suggest anyone to stay there! i've only stayed there once and never went back. there are tons of great local hotels in the Seminyak / Legian area.

another of my favorite for secret escapades is Banyan Tree in Ungasan. i suggest you try that next time! it is an all villa resort with a million dollar cliff views from your villa. if you have extra cash to spare, try the massive 3 bedroom villas, that we hear, the owner only lets out one out of two built, and kept 1 for his own use.
