Through my growing years, teppanyaki has always been a favourite. Even though I often crave for it, I haven’t had it for a long time because there are not that many teppanyaki restaurants around.
In my memory, most food courts used to have teppanyaki counters. But these days, they have disappeared almost entirely, leaving us with very limited options.
When you mention good teppanyaki in Singapore, several places like Keyaki, Tatsu Teppanyaki, and Hill Top Japanese Restaurant come to mind. However, they are not cheap. I certainly cannot afford to eat there on a regular basis. So I did some research on places to go, and I was pointed to Sakae Teppanyaki.
Sakae Teppanyaki is not new in the market. It currently has seven outlets at Century Square, Changi Airport, Lot 1, North Point, Sun Plaza, Sentosa, and Plaza Singapura.
Sakae Teppanyaki has set meals which range from the popular chicken set ($17.99) with chicken, gindara, and gyonza; to the premium Sakae set ($23.99) which comes with venison, foie gras, and shell scallop. Set lunches at Sakae Teppanyaki are much more affordable. For instance, the seafood lunch set with salmon, tiger prawn, and gyonza, is only $13.99.
While the food is not out-of-this-world good, I can see myself coming back as it is very decently priced. Moreover, the convenient locations mean that I can drop by whenever I am craving for teppanyaki.
Where do you usually go for teppanyaki? Do leave a comment and let me know.

Try yaki yaki Bo. I know of one at Jurong Point but not sure where else. They have pretty decent teppanyaki.
My all time favorite Teppanyaki place is Shima at Goodwood Park Hotel.
Think old school like Shashlik restaurant in Far East Shopping Center…only this is the Japanese version.
Express Teppanyaki , at amk hub food court. All time fav. In the past there were a few express teppan outlets.
