Fish Market / Bistro @ Greenwood is totally and I mean totally overrated! I heard good things but boy was I disappointed! Perhaps the Fish & Chips and ample (and cheap!) supply of Oysters with cheap beers will satisfy some in need of a quick fix but I was appalled by the entire experience.
It started when I got shooed away by the Valet parking guy. Perhaps I didn't drive an expensive enough car. Fortunately I found a spot around the corner. I had made reservations for 8 o'clock, which turned out to be a good thing because the place was booked solid on the Tuesday we were there. We arrived a bit late, at 8:10, so I expected our table to be ready. The table was free but not cleared yet. I was told that I was to be called (phoned?) in 10 mins. I replied I did not intend to go anywhere else for the next 10 minutes and would wait outside. I was shooed again when I was blocking one of the waiters. When seated and finally received the bottle of wine we ordered 20 mins earlier, we settled on the hot seafood platter. Big mistake! Clams and Mussels were ok. Octopus salad was tasty. Calamaris satisfactory. Hurrah! The half lobster was in a word: disgusting. The taste was off, the meat was chewy and dry. What happend with this fellow I wondered. I immediately told one of the staff I was not at all pleased with it but my comment was simply ignored. The fish shasliks with a fair amount of Thai red curry paste (from a jar?) simply thrown onto them, there's no other way to put it, were overcooked, dry and frankly disgusting! I still have no idea what Fish I ate. It was cooked beyond recognition. I tried to get the attention of the waiter but to no avail. When we requested the bill we again commented that we were not at all satisfied with the quality of the food. The chap at the receiving end fell into a state of shock and never recuperated well enough to give us a proper response. Although he was quite capable of charging us the full amount meanwhile. Shocking place. I will never go there again, but I recon you felt that one coming?

lotsofcravings: but it actually tastes pretty good

j2kfm: haha how was yours like?

xiix: lol no worries dude. I hardly eat fish and chips too, because most of the time they are soggy or too oily. but once in a while i tend to crave for them.

slipstream: wow lucky you! to stay so near them! haha how much cheaper is it to take-away? I didn't really notice the takeaway price

The beer battered version here is actually very good, but in recent times a little erractic in serving sizes!

I usually order take out, as I stay a mere 15mins away by car. Drop them a line, hop in the car and the fish is fresh, and piping hot just as I head home.

The best part - its cheaper than dining in - perfect for that stay at home saturday night!

Oh so there IS a Singaporean version of soft-shelled crabs pasta. I was skeptical when I had one recently in a pasta house here.
Definitely not as good as yours, from the look of it.
