My first time at Robertson Quay was quite a memorable experience. A friend brought me there for dinner and I was amazed to see so many restaurants in the area.

Over the years, I managed to visit quite a few of the restaurants in Robertson Quay, but still, I can’t help but wonder how many other hidden gems I’ve not been to yet. Have you ever find yourself wondering where and what to eat in Robertson Quay?

Here’s my guide to Restaurants in Robertson Quay.

I think it is impossible to go to all the restaurants in this list, but I’m going to give it a shot. Let’s go on an adventure and explore all the nice restaurants!

Aburiya

Craving for Japanese BBQ after reading my post on Gyu-Kaku restaurant? Aburiya at The Quayside is one of the Yakiniku places in Singapore that is worth checking out. Read: Wagyu beef heaven. What are you waiting for?

60 Robertson Quay
#01-03 The Quayside
Tel: +65 6735 4862

Bar Bar Black Sheep

Bar Bar Black Sheep (bbbs) is one of those places that you would find it hard to categorise. Is it an upmarket coffee shop? Or is it a cafe-bar with al fresco (read: no air conditioning) dining? It doesn’t really matter. Expatriates love the place.

If you have not been there before, the cafe-bar (or whatever you want to call it) houses three different stalls that serve Thai, Western and North Indian cuisine – helmed by independent chefs. And of course, there’s a bar where you can get some drinks like a nice cocktail or beer.

86 Robertson Quay
#01-04 Robertson Blue
Tel: +65 6836 9255

Bacchus Bistro & Bar

Another place that I find it hard to categorise is Bacchus Bistro & Bar. The menu is quite diversified and you can get things like Chicken Schnitzel, Pork Knuckle, Japanese Salmon Steak, UK Fish & Chips, Pasta and Pizza. Is it a German restaurant or a German wine cellar that offers fusion food?

86 Robertson Quay
#01-01 Robertson Blue

Bella Pizza

Bella Pizza is the restaurant that most people mention when you ask them what their favourite Italian restaurant is. It serves one of the best pizzas in Singapore.

30 Robertson Quay
#01-14 Riverside View
Tel: +65 6734 0139

Bella Pasta

It probably doesn’t make sense that Bella Pasta is just a few units away from Bella Pizza. But no one’s complaining since we can have the best of both worlds.

Bella Pasta has a very different menu from Bella Pizza. Besides a wide range of pasta, it also serves meat, seafood and fish main courses. Definitely worth a try!

Boomarang Bistro & Bar

Boomarang Bistro is one of the few Australian restaurants in Singapore – it was set up by a true Aussie owner and his chef with the aim of introducing their interpretation of authentic Australian cuisine to Singapore. It has reasonable prices and the portions are huge. Most importantly, it is a kids-friendly restaurant.

60 Robertson Quay
#01-15 The Quayside
Tel: +65 6738 1077

Bon Gout

Even though I have been to Robertson Quay many times, Bon Gout has never been on my must-eat restaurants radar. I think it’s mainly because I was always distracted by my favourite brunch at Epicurious Cafe.

From what I’ve heard, Bon Gout is a small Japanese eatery which serves pretty decent Japanese food at affordable prices. I’m going to make a trip there next.

60 Robertson Quay
#01-01 The Quayside
Tel: +65 6732 5234

Brasserie Wolf

Personally, I feel that prices are slightly steep for a causal French Bistro. That said, Brasserie Wolf serves simple and good French food. Amongst the dishes that we tried, the Traditional French Onion Soup and Beef Bourguignon are definitely worth ordering.

80 Mohamed Sultan Road
#01-13 The Pier @ Robertson
Tel: +65 6835 7818

Brussels Sprouts

Brussels Sprouts by Belgian celebrity chef Emmanuel Stroobant, is perhaps one of the few Belgian restaurants in Singapore. Looking for mussels and Belgian beer? You’ll get them at Brussels Sprouts.

80 Mohamed Sultan Road
#01-12 The Pier @ Robertson
Tel: +65 6887 4344

Cafe Epicurious

Epicurious Cafe – a restaurant by the Singapore River – is famous for their weekend brunch. It’s almost impossible to get a table without waiting if you reach after noon, so be sure to go early!

60 Robertson Quay
#01-02 The Quayside
Tel: +65 6734 7720

Cafe Sapunsa Thai Cuisine

Cafe Sapunsa Thai Cuisine is a little eatery at Robertson Quay that serves Thai food. The no-frills Thai Restaurant also has another outlet at Orchard Tower.

Canele Patisserie

Even though Chef Pang has left Canele, the patisserie by the Les Amis group is still one of the more reliable and well known dessert places in Singapore. There’s always room for desserts.

11 Unity Street
#01-09 Robertson Walk
Tel: +65 6738 8145

Cappadocia Cafe Restaurant

The beauty about Robertson Quay is you can find almost any cuisine here. Craving for Turkish food? Try Cappadocia Cafe at Robertson walk, the main dining area at the intersection of Unity street and Mohamed Sultan road.

11 Unity Street
#01-12 Robertson Walk

da Mario Pizzeria

Italian food is one of my favourite cuisines, so I am happy to tell you that there are quite a few Italian restaurants in Robertson Quay to choose from. da Mario Pizzeria has always been known as a family-friendly restaurant that serves good and hearty homemade pizzas.

Em by the River

Em by the River is the perfect place to have a lazy brunch for those who sleep in during the weekends. It serves all day brunch (from 9am to 3pm daily). When night falls, it is the perfect place to sit by the Singapore river and have a glass of mojito while star-grazing.

1 Nanson Road
#01-05 The Gallery Hotel
Tel: +65 6836 9691

Graze

I don’t even know where to begin with pancakes and eggs benedict. “YES PLEASE!” Let’s go to Graze at Martin road for brunch!

38 Martin Road
Tel: +65 6509 1680

Hannibal

How many times have I walked past Hannibal when I was in The Pier @ Robertson Walk? Plenty. Have I eaten there before? No. The name of the restaurant is a little confusing and it doesn’t tell me anything about the place. I have no idea if it has anything to do with the famous Carthaginian military commander, Hannibal.

Obviously, I am thinking too much. From the research online, Hannibal at Robertson walk is actually a European grill & bar that serves standard bistro fare. Will I go there next time? Maybe.

80 Mohamed Sultan Road
#01-04 The Pier @ Robertson Walk
Tel: +65 6732 7550

Hummerstons

Hummerstons is a restaurant located on level two of Robertson Walk. The menu features comfort food like burgers, pastas and truffle fries. This is the place to go if you want a quiet spot in Robertson Quay.

11 Unity Street
#02-14 Robertson Walk

Ichibantei

It is not easy to survive in the food & beverage industry. The casualty rate in Robertson quay is particularly high, with restaurants opening and closing all the time. Ichibantei has been around for quite a long time, so they must be doing something right.

60 Robertson Quay
#01-04 The Quayside

Kith Cafe

Let me paint the perfect Sunday morning picture. You are sitting on a stool outside Kith Cafe facing the Singapore river, while sipping a cup of coffee and reading ladyironchef on your iPad…

KHA

Previously located at Hort Park, KHA has recently shifted to Martin Road near Robertson Quay. The Thai restaurant has a kick-ass Tom Yum Soup and I am absolutely in love with their Red Curry Rubbed Wagyu Beef.

38 Martin Road
Tel: +65 6476 9000

Les Bouchons Rive Gauche

Les Bouchons Rive Gauche is a casual French Bistro at Roberton Quay which has been around for some time and though I’ve always seen it walking back and forth Robertson Quay, it never really occurred to me to try it. Steak & frites, anyone?

Laurent’s Bernard Chocolatier

When it comes to chocolate desserts, Laurent Bernard Chocolatier is one of the best in the business. Formerly known as The Chocolate Factory, the newly renamed Laurent’s Café & Chocolate Bar has two branches at Robertson Quay and Portsdown road. Whenever I’m having dinner at one of the restaurants at The Pier @ Robertson, I always find it hard to resist dropping by Laurent Bernard for desserts.

80 Mohamed Sultan Road
#01-11 The Pier @ Robertson

Limoncello Italian Pizza & Grill

Medley Amaii

Unless I am mistaken, Medley Amaii is the only ice cream place in the Robertson Quay area. You know where to go for ice cream on a hot afternoon.

86 Robertson Quay
#01-03 Robertson Blue
Tel: +65 6838 0792

Menya Shinchan Japanese Noodle Restaurant

I wish I could say that I’ve been to all the restaurants in Robertson Quay, but it is impossible to spend so much on food all the time. I never even knew that Menya Shinchan Japanese Noodle Restaurant existed until my friend told me about them recently.

30 Robertson Quay
#01-05 Riverside View
Tel: +65 6732 0114

Mondo Mio

I like pasta, I like tiramisu, I love Italian food, but there’s just something about Mondo Mio that doesn’t call out to me. I am not sure if it’s because of their name, or the fact that I always go to Bella Pizza when I am in Robertson Quay. I just took a look at their menu on the website and most of the items are reasonably priced. Maybe I will go there next time!

30 Robertson Quay
#01-02S Riverside View

Queen’s Tandoor

Queen’s Tandoor is probably the only Indian restaurant in Robertson Walk, so this is the place to go if you are craving for Indian food.

11 Unity Street
#01-18/19 Robertson Walk
Tel: +65 6235 3003

Royal Tien Xiang Restaurant

At Royal Tien Xiang restaurant, you can go for either the ala carte steamboat buffet ($23.8++/lunch, $26.8++/dinner) which comes with 20+ items, or order seafood and Chinese dishes from the separate ala carte menu.

Ryoriya Sangokushi

Japanese culture has always been a big influence in Taiwan, so it’s not surprising to see a Japanese style Taiwanese restaurant – Ryoriya Sangokushi at Robertson Quay.

30 Robertson Quay
#01-03 Riverside View
Tel: +65 6238 8962

There’s no need to go all the way to the seafood restaurants at East Coast Park just to satisfy your cravings. Red House Seafood Restaurant at The Quayside is one of the more established Chinese Seafood restaurants in Singapore, and they have very good chilli crabs! One thing to note though, they are very popular with tourists and the staff seemed to be more attentive to foreign customers.

One of the restaurants that I’ve always wanted to eat at but have not gotten the chance to visit is Satsuma Shochu Dining Bar at The Gallery Hotel – all my friends have been raving about the food there!

Stacked Dim Sum Bar

A bar that serves dim sum with alcoholic drinks? Now, this is interesting. It is no secret that I love dim sum, so I was really happy to hear about the new Stacked Dim Sum Bar at Robertson Quay, until I saw their menu.

Most of their selections are priced from $7-10 per basket and the price is much higher than the usual dim sum restaurants in five star hotels. Don’t get me wrong, I am willing to splurge on good dim sum, but somehow, the menu seems a little overpriced and the whole thing feels more like a novelty concept to me.

That said, I’m glad that there’s new option for dim sum during dinner.

Izakaya is a casual Japanese bar where you can enjoy food with drinks. It reminds me of Spanish Tapas Bars, and one of the best things about such dining concepts is that you get to try so many different food. Shunjuu Izakaya is the place to share some snacks and drinks with your friends after a long day of work.

Where and what to eat in Robertson Quay?

I get that question a lot, as people always ask me for recommendations on nice restaurants in Robertson Quay. I’m not sure if you have been there before, but there are actually plenty of options if you want to check out the restaurants at Robertson Quay.

Boomarang Bistro & Bar is one of them. It’s located further down from the Alkaff Bridge at Robertson Quay, away from the main stretch of restaurants. If you can’t find it, look out for Red House Seafood and walk towards that direction.

Boomarang Bistro is one of the few Australian restaurants in Singapore – it was set up by a true Aussie owner and his chef with the aim of introducing their interpretation of authentic Australian cuisine to Singapore.

It’s astonishing to hear that the actual size of the Chicken Parmigiano ($22) was thrice that of the tasting portion that we had in the picture. That’s huge! With the cheese, tomato and ham on top, I thought it was a pizza.

To my surprise, the base was actually a chicken breast fillet. For someone who usually hates the hard and dry chicken breast meat, I found the one here to be extremely tender and incredibly juicy. 22 bucks for something so big and rewarding? I’d definitely order this dish when I come back the next time!

I’m not sure if it’s because I was hungry, but the toasted Brioche was absolutely delicious! Forget about the salmon and salad on top, just give me the bread!

Marina suggested that we should try the Lemon & Lime Calamari, which is one of her favorite items on the menu. We squeezed not just lemon, but also lime, and that was it. I’m a big fan of citrus fruit, and it’s definitely a fantastic idea to have both lemon and lime.

The calamari however, could be better. It was slightly soggy and lacked the crunch.

Made for ladies

I’m sure there’s a tag like this on the salmon. All the girls in town will definitely fall in love with the Panfried Salmon Fillet ($28) with Saffron Baby Potatoes. Earlier on, we caught a glimpse of the chef handling the raw salmon in the kitchen, it was an entiree slab of meat. Fresh? You bet!

Oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy!

Wow! Kangaroo meat!

I didn’t know there’s Kangaroo meat in Singapore!

I was so excited when I saw it on the menu. Now I can proudly say that I have tried Kangaroo meat before! Just ticked the box on my checklist – kangaroo meat – done!

Charred on the brim, the Peppered Kangaroo Loin ($28) was done medium, retaining the pinkish-red tinge in the middle. I have no idea how a good kangaroo meat should taste like, but it was somewhat familiar to beef, just slightly tougher. It was chewy, and there was none of the gamy smell I thought it’d have.

The desserts are so beautiful. Oh gosh, I’m hungry again!

Looking at the dessert menu, the Flourless Chocolate Cake caught my attention immediately. It sounds good, and it looks very pretty too! The chocolaty top was a little too much for Ju, but it tasted just right to me. It’s not too sweet, and there’s this slight bitterness in the dark chocolate – it would be perfect if there was a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.

“This is the best sticky date pudding ever!”

Initially, I wasn’t quite convinced when Marina told us that Boomarang Bistro serves the best sticky date pudding. I was actually afraid to try the dessert when it arrived on the table. What if this isn’t good? What if it’s just that I simply don’t like sticky date puddings and it has nothing to do with the dessert?

I leaned forward cautiously, keeping my fingers crossed. I took a corner of the pudding, and mixed it with the pretty vanilla bean ice cream. Compared with the ones that I’ve before which crumbled way too easily, Boomarang Bistro’s Sticky date pudding ($10) was a lot firmer, and it was actually quite good! Best sticky date pudding? I don’t want to pass a judgment, but for the first time, I think I actually enjoyed a sticky date pudding.

Go to Boomarang Bistro and order their Sticky date pudding. After that, let me know if it’s the best sticky date pudding you have tried.

If you are looking for a sugary sweet dessert, the Pavlova is definitely the one. It is like a meringue-based dessert. I had it once before, and I thought it tasted like pure sugar. The happy smile on everyone’s face – there’s nothing like a sweet dessert.

* * *

I’ll like to thank Marina from Croc Media for inviting and hosting the lunch. The prices at Boomarang Bistro & Bar are very reasonable for the huge and hearty portions. It’s a great chill out place for dinner with a group of friends, and if you are considering a restaurant at Robertson Quay for dinner, why not check out Boomarang Bistro? And oh yes, they serve all day brunch until 3pm during weekends too!

All along, I thought that German food was all about pork knuckles, beer and sausages. While I was hiking at Katoomba, Blue Mountains, I met a German dude and I asked him what’s a normal German meal like? He mentioned that Germans are very big on bread, and contrary to popular belief, no – they do not have pork knuckle and sausages every meal. At least, that’s what he told me.

Coincidentally, I had my first German meal a few days later when I went back to Sydney from Katoomba. It was awesome, and I have been craving for German food ever since I came back to Singapore. Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant was one of the few places that came to mind when I wanted to plan for a German dinner. There’s currently three Brotzeit restaurant at Raffles City, 313 @ Somerset and Vivocity.

Needless to say, I was very excited. If you were there that night, you’d probably saw me from afar. Yes, the guy sitting near the entrance of the restaurant at Vivocity, with a big camera snapping away.

Anyway, German Pork Knuckles.

Yes, I wanted pork knuckles, and I wanted it immediately! It’s not exaggerating to say that pork knuckles are the representative of German Food for me. Extremely crispy, deep-fried but not dry, hearty but not heavy, I just love every bite of the Pork Knuckle ($36). It may not look very filling, but trust me, you need a few people to finish this.

The sausages platter Wustelpatte ($32.50) is a great way to try a little of everything. There’s spicy chicken sausages, Nurnberger pork bratwurst, mini pork cheese sausages, weisswurst sausage and garlic sausages. Half the time, I couldn’t tell which was which, but who cares? We finished every single one of them.

Somehow, the crackling pork knuckles reminded me of roasted pork, and when I saw the Schweinsbraten ($29.50) on the menu, I pleaded commanded my friends: lets get the roasted pork! But it was quite different from what I’ve imagined. I thought it’d be something like the roast pork that we’re so familiar with. Instead, Brotzeit’s rendition was roasted pork with gravy, alongside homemade red cabbage. Even though the robust gravy added flavor to the meat, but I still preferred the crispy roasted pork.

I was dazzled for a good twenty seconds the moment the Seafood platter, Fischplatte ($34.50) arrived on the table. Time seemed to slow as my senses fully captured everything on the plate; my eyes took in every single detail of the marination on the thick slices of tuna. The vibrant colors of the smoked salmon and bright-red marinated prawns also caught my attention. It was amazing to smell the white anchovies, and even more appealing to put it in my month, everything was so refreshing. Again, if you are with a good of friends, it’s more like a tasting platter since everyone only gets to try a little of everything.

* * *

Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant will definitely be one of the top choices when it comes to German Food in Singapore. Reservations are a must, especially when it’s dinner time. There was about 7-8 of us, and for the food that we had, it wasn’t particularly filling for the most of people. On hindsight, we should have order at least one more main dish to share. Anyway, I reckon the budget is about $30-40 per person if you want to get a decent filling meal, and at least in the $50s if beer is included.

It’s always easier to order food when there are more people, and this is particularly true for Brotzeit. There’s so many items on the menu and it was a challenge going through all of them. My advise? Get a group of friends and hit Brotzeit for the Pork Knuckle, German sausages and booze. Hurry up!

Where do you go for German food in Singapore? And what’s the one must-try item when you are having a German dinner?

One of the things that I like about the Singapore Dining scene is the vibrancy, there are new restaurants opening all the time. Some open with a big fanfare, while others prefer having a soft opening to fine-tune and tweak their menu before they are plot on the to-dine-at restaurant radar.

And when a new restaurant is being helm by chef Sufian Bin Zain’ who helped his previous restaurant Iggy’s being listed as one of the world’s top 100 restaurants, it’s not surprising that everyone will rush to the new establishment. I am not one of those that like to chase after new restaurants, that’s one of the reasons that it took me until now to drop by L’Entrepot Bistrot.

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but I hardly blog about restaurants in Clarke Quay, there’s nothing wrong with the area; in fact it is a well-known places for tourists to dine at, when visiting Singapore. And that’s precisely the problem. Awesome riverside view, gorgeous restaurants interiors, but I’d imagine it comes with hefty bills and the made-for-tourist stamp too.

For restaurants, set lunches are one of the ways to attract more customers and increase sales. In times like this, not everyone can still afford to splurge on extravagant lunches, and that’s when you have value set lunches. Given that a normal meal and a drink in a food court will probably cost you six dollars upwards, an affordable lunch for $15 nett in a nice restaurant with everything plated nicely, is very tempting.

Besides the perfect excuse to indulge in a good lunch, it’s an opportunity to check out the restaurant and see if it’s worth coming back for dinner. On normal occasions, L’Entrepot Bistrot’s normal 2 course lunch is $25++, while the 3 course menu will set you back by $30++, but there’s a current promotion for all the Clarke Quay restaurants where a 2 course set lunch is $15 nett.

The promotional menu is almost identical to the normal lunch menu, with a few exceptions. One of those is the escargot which we wanted to get, but since it wasn’t available for the promotion, we went for the French Onion Soup, served with Emmenthal Cheese. It was a good decision, the onion soup is the classic example of the rustic French Bistro food.

On this visit, I chose the Vongole, which came with clams amidst the leeks, onions tomato and spaghetti. There was a subtle white wine taste in the spaghetti sauce. The generosity of clams were admirable, but the presence of leeks drove me to verge of irritation; I ain’t no fan of leek.

I’m not one who will always order fish for main courses while it comes to dining outside. I like fish, but it pales in comparison when you can have steak, chicken, or duck – meat in general. But still, I love fish, it sounds fickle but I am only human, you know. So I was glad when my Evangeline ordered the Pan Fried Seabass, with mashed potatoes. It may sound very ordinary, but the seabass was actually pretty good. It sounds like a layer of crispy pan-fried skin with the fillet nicely settled underneath.

It was a toss between Creme Brulee and Profiteroles when it came to desserts, but as Tampopo deli is nearby, we went for the former. Now, there will be vanilla beans inside, I’m sure. And true enough, there were tiny speckles of them in the custard, and the surface was caramelized beautifully.
