Pancake is one thing that I can have everyday without getting sick of. They taste great with a scoop of ice cream, or if you are like me, I’d have them with just maple syrup and butter.

I LOVE pancakes. Over the last two months, I’ve been trying out different brunch places to find the best pancakes in Singapore. Where can you find good and fluffy pancakes? Which pancake places are worth a try?

Here’s my list of the best pancakes in Singapore.

Pancake lovers unite!

Antoinette

It is no secret that I am a big fan of Chef Pang Kok Keong. Antoinette – a beautiful Parisian style patisserie tea salon – is one of my favourite new restaurants in 2011.

Besides offering French desserts, Antoinette also has an all day dining menu which has eggs, French toast, and Blinis (French thick pancakes). There are both sweet and savoury pancakes like Blinis with blueberries ($10), and savoury Blinis with smoked salmon ($15).

30 Penhas Road

Tel: +65 6293 3121

Pancakes are most people’s favourite brunch food for a good reason: they are fun and delicious.

Barracks Cafe House Dempsey

Everyone needs at least one reliable place for comfort food. For me, Barracks Cafe at Dempsey Hill is one of my favourite cafes in Singapore. With seven layers of fluffy pancakes, the 7-layer Pancake ($18) at Barracks Cafe is quite possibly the biggest pancake in Singapore. Definitely a must-try for pancake lovers.

8D Dempsey Road
#01-01 to 06 Tanglin Village
Tel: +65 6475 7787

Cedele Restaurant & Bakery

A good pancake can be found at Cedele. They have different variations like wild blueberry, pepper corn, apple cinnamon and mushroom onion.

Filled with the goodness of blueberries, Cedele’s Wild Blueberry Pancakes ($12.9) came with butter, maple syrup, salad, and choice of bacon or sausage.

501 Orchard Road
#03-14 Wheelock Place
Tel: +65 6732 8520

Epicurious Cafe

The pancakes ($7) from Epicurious are not out-of-this-world good. But I still love it, and I always order baked eggs and eat them together.

392 Upper Bukit Timah Road
The Rail Mall
Tel: +65 6894 5926

Food For Thought Cafe

At Food For Thought Cafe, you can choose from a variety of pancakes: have it plain with fresh cream and Gula Melaka syrup ($6); or opt for the popular combination of banana & walnuts ($10). Breakfast is available from 9am to 5.30pm, let’s have pancakes for afternoon high tea.

8 Queen Street
Tel: +65 6338 9887

Not all pancakes are created equal. Your mission: go in search of the best pancakes in Singapore.

OverEasy Restaurant

Another place that has all day breakfast is OverEasy at One Fullerton. It is an American restaurant that serves your favourite comfort food, it is opened till late 2am. How about having some pancakes ($16) with scrambled eggs, tomatoes and bacon for supper?

1 Fullerton Road
#01-06 One Fullerton
Tel: +65 6423 0701

Privé bakery café

Prive Bakery Cafe is one of my favourite brunch places in Singapore. There’s nothing fantastic about the food, just simple, well-executed comfort food served at reasonable prices.

And of course, you must order the fluffy pancakes ($13.5) when you are there.

2 Keppel Bay Vista
GF Marina @ Keppel Bay
Tel: 6776 0777

Pancakes are just an excuse for me to eat maple syrup and butter. Om nom nom nom!

Spruce Cafe Bakery

Perched at the top of Phoenix Park in Tanglin, Spruce is a nice cafe which is just a few minutes drive from Orchard. It is extremely popular for their weekend brunch, and the Banana Hotcakes ($14) with honeycomb butter and blueberry syrup is definitely worth a try.

320 Tanglin Road
Phoenix Park Singapore
Tel: +65 6836 5528

Strictly Pancakes

The concept of all day dining restaurant serving only pancakes is not new – I have been to Pancakes on the Rock in Sydney which has a similar idea.

But Strictly Pancakes is certainly the first of its kind in Singapore. It is one of the few places that serve both sweet pancakes ($10) like lemon curd, strawberries, and blackforest; and savoury pancakes ($14) that come with ingredients like beef patty, salmon and garlic buttered prawns.

44A Prinsep Street Singapore
Tel: +65 6333 4202

Wild Honey Singapore

Wild Honey at Mandarin Gallery is a breakfast speciality restaurant that serves different breakfasts from all over the world. The Canadian Pancake ($18) – a stack of classic pancakes served with wild berry, bacon and maple syrup – is one of the most popular items on their all day brunch menu.

Some of my friends have been commenting that Strictly Pancakes at Prinsep Street is probably one of the best pancake restaurant/cafe in Singapore. As usual, I waited a while before visiting because I wanted them to sort out the teething problems first.

The concept of All Day Dining restaurant serving only pancakes is not new, I have been to Pancakes on the Rock in Sydney which has a similar idea. But Strictly Pancakes is certainly the first of its kind in Singapore, and their menu has both savoury and sweet pancakes.

I heard that they are usually full during lunch and dinner, so we went there during mid afternoon and we had the whole cafe to ourselves.

If it was the ‘old’ me, I’d have rejected the idea of savoury pancakes: “how can pancakes be savoury, they are supposed to be sweet, they are dessert!” But hey, there’s always a first time for everything, right?

After settling down on the cosy sofa, I took a look at Strictly Pancakes’ menu and went for the Snuggle Up ($13). Tasty hotdogs held within the fluffy pancakes, drizzled with the sweet maple syrup and butter; perfect! Who can refuse a hot and puffy pancake? Not me.

We felt that the mushy peas didn’t really blend in well with the pancakes and sausages, but it was a good attempt anyway.

Eeew, pancakes and GARLIC BUTTERED PRAWNS?

Yes. The stack of pancakes were served together with prawns buttered generously with garlic. To be fair, it wasn’t as weird as we thought. The Garlic Buttered prawns pancakes ($14) that silvia ordered were actually pretty tasty.

Here’s a tip: if you are a savoury person, by all means order the savoury pancakes like the Beef Patty, Chicken chunks, and Smoked Salmon from Strictly Pancakes.

But for those who have a sweet tooth and find it hard to accept the idea of a savoury pancake, I will still suggest you to give it a try. Think of it this way, if worse comes to worst, you can always have the savoury toppings separately, and finish the pancakes with maple syrup and butter as dessert.

Give them a try with an open mind, there’s really nothing to lose.

The Strawberries & Co ($10) is a medium stack of pancakes with mixed berries, strawberries coulis, and vanilla ice cream. Whenever I go to Epicurious Cafe for breakfast, I’ll always order their pancakes as it is affordable and good.

But after having the ones from Strictly Pancakes, I will go as far to say that they have the best pancakes in Singapore. Three fluffy and thick pancakes with a scoop of good vanilla ice cream for just ten bucks – how do you beat that?

Having pancakes is just an excuse for me to eat maple syrup, and ice cream.

We also had the Bananas-Scotched ($10). The pancakes were the perfect vehicle to soak up the rum and maple syrup, together with the caramelised bananas and vanilla bean ice cream — I think I am in sugar heaven. Mind you, this is extremely sweet, so only order it if you have a high tolerance for sweet stuff.

* * *

The pancakes are definitely substantial enough for lunch, we were so full that we couldn’t finish all the pancakes. For those of you who are keen to try the Prinsep Street Pancakes, I’d advise you to share the pancakes (for 4 person, 3 different pancakes should suffice).

Strictly Pancakes reminds me of Hatched and Wild Honey, which serve all day breakfast daily. Now you can have your pancakes during breakfast, afternoon tea, or as desserts after dinner. There’s no doubt. I definitely will come back to Strictly Pancakes at Prinsep Street to satisfy my pancakes craving.

Strictly Pancakes has the best pancakes in Singapore, it’s time to drop by for a pancake party!

Sundays are so very nice. I get to sleep in late and nobody can point a finger at me. Oh what the heck, I can even have a burger for breakfast and you will not judge me for this.

How many times have I blog about the breakfast at Epicurious Cafe? How many different types of eggs have I ordered, and how often can I revisit Epicurious Cafe without seeming crazy? If it’s up to me (without consulting my wallet), I’d definitely come here for breakfast every weekend since Railmall is just five minutes away.

Contrary to what most people, it is OKAY to have burgers for breakfast. Why not? Since I had burgers at midnight before, I don’t see why I can’t have them for breakfast.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Epicurious burger ($18) serves one if your name is Brad, or two if you don’t have a big appetite. Add cheese, bacon and egg ($2 each, or $4 for all 3 toppings) for the “full epicurious burger experience”. This baby is humongous!

I started breakfast with Pancakes ($7 for 3) of course. A lot of syrup was consumed and I ate the three pancakes on my own. What an achievement! It may not seems like a lot to you, but pancakes mean the world to me. I’d marry any one who makes me pancakes for breakfast.

One of my favorite breakfast items on the Epicurious Cafe’s menu is the Baked Eggs with toast soldiers ($6.50 for 1). We ordered two portions and the first one that arrived was splendid. There’s something special about the combination of eggs and bacon in semi-molten form. Unfortunately, the second serving was rushed out of the oven way too early, and the baked eggs was too watery.

The Cafe offered to replace the Baked eggs with the Choco-nana sandwich ($6). Now, nutella is surely one of the best creations on earth. Spreading a thick layer of the wholesome nutella on white bread is the most sensible thing a person can do.

My middle name is nutella.

Look, I’m not saying Epicurious Cafe has the best brunch in Singapore. But for the kind of price and the comfort food they serve, Epicurious cafe is definitely still one of my favorite breakfast places in Singapore. I’m probably not going to blog about their breakfast again. So if you know what’s good for you, go to Epicurious cafe (or any brunch places) today for a good Sunday brunch.

// Update: Mykii Brasserie Cafe is now closed

Many food lovers always like to go Holland Village as it has always been one of the popular dining spots in Singapore that has so many different restaurants. I recently came to know that Mykii restaurant actually serves brunch on weekends. It wasn’t even on my list of Brunch Places in Singapore when I had compiled it back then.

Breakfast at Mykii Brasserie Cafe is available on weekends from 11.30am – 4pm, and there are three brunch menus to choose from: Hearty Deluxe ($38), Gourmet Chic ($28) and Classique ($28). We had a Hearty Deluxe brunch set which came with a starter of homemade bread & muffin/scone/cupcake, Mykii Brunch platter, a choice of main course, dessert, coffee/tea and fruit juice. I know, that’s quite an handful isn’t it? In addition to that, we shared another Gourmet Chic brunch set which was essentially about the same as the Hearty Deluxe brunch set – less the main course.

Most of the time, I prefer to order from the ala carte menu, rather than having a brunch buffet. There’s no need for so much variety for breakfast, I’m a cereal-eggs-pancakes-desserts kind of guy. I like to keep brunch simple – nothing too heavy.

The scones are sturdy, yet crumby, hard on the outside yet so moist inside, it’s the type that I will love to have every morning. On the other hand, the Oreo cupcake was just okay, very sweet and a little too dry. The homemade bread, however was excellent. While waiting for the food to come, we couldn’t help but spread the room-temperature butter onto the bread and wolfed down two slices each.

The Eggs Benedict was more than just a pretty face. The magical combination of eggs and bacon always works. While the holladaise sauce wasn’t as buttery as I would like it to be, it’s just assuring to have Eggs Benedict for breakfast.

Mykii’s Brunch platter consisted of French chipolata sausage, grilled fresh tomatoes, streaky bacon with farmhouse eggs. For the eggs, we chose to have the ocean’s catch omelette with squids and prawn with a tangy thai-sweet chili mayonnaise. Hearty and satisfying, this is my classic interpretation of a big breakfast.

By the time the Iceland Smoked Salmon Sandwich arrived on our table, our stomach was already almost filled to the brim. I had no idea why it was named the Iceland smoked salmon sandwich, but I do know for a fact that the fries that accompanied the sandwich were delicious. It was nicely cut, and had a great potato taste. They were also light and not too salty; we finished every fry without feeling guilty.

If you have been around for some time, you will know that I have always been against the marriage of chocolate and banana. There are plenty of different options like orange chocolate and chocolate mint, but yes, I do not like chocolate banana.

The Chocolate Banana cake here did not change my opinion of the popular dessert, but at least it wasn’t that bad. For one, the bulk of the cake was chocolate ganache and only a thin layer was the banana component. I have nothing against banana, but chocolate banana doesn’t work for me.

I was elated when the dessert menu had a choice of Sweet Morning Platter, which was petite old English pancakes with pear compote, smoothie shooter, and vanilla bean gelato. When the dessert came, the size of the pancakes caught us by surprise. Again, I blamed myself for not reading the menu carefully, petite old English pancakes.. Yes it’s petite, small, tiny or whatever vocabularies you can think of.

Well, it wasn’t too bad. It’s pancakes, you know – pancakes always taste good. The slightly sourish smoothie shooter provided a good counterbalance to the sweet duo of pear compote and ice cream. Ooh, there’s vanilla beans! Perfect. Just the way I wanted to end a good and hearty brunch.

Compared with the other brunch places in Singapore, Mykii probably won’t be among my favorites, but that’s not because it’s not good. The food was pretty decent, not top-notch, but good enough. Their brunch menu really spoils me with so much food, and I’m very sure that my stomach will hold a protest very soon if this goes on.

Actually come to think of it, the beautiful part about breakfast food is the simplicity of it. Having a cup of coffee while reading Sunday Times, beginning breakfast with starter-eggs-mains-desserts, and most importantly, having it with your favorite person – what more can you ask for?

Go and have a good breakfast today! Sundays are meant for brunch.

If there’s anything that I will not get sick of, it will definitely be eggs. I love eggs! Be it scrambled eggs, poached eggs or sunny side-up, I can have them every day.

I always envisage the idea of a restaurant serving all day brunch. By that, I mean a place which has all day breakfast for not just breakfast, lunch but also dinner – serving nothing but breakfast food.

In the past year, we have seen the entrance of many new brunch places in Singapore. Hatched at Evans Lodge is a restaurant that serves all day breakfast. I went to Hatched during a weekday lunch. Even though it wasn’t very crowded, there was a slight hiccup as the staff forgot to pass my order to the kitchen and we waited for slightly longer than 30 minutes.

Otherwise, the menu is perfect for me. Hatched has all kinds of eggs; boiled, poached, baked, scrambled, fried, and omelette. There were so many different type of eggs on the menu – it took us a while to read through the menu.

And of course, brunch is all about Eggs Benedict. Hollandaise sauce is the key to a good eggs benedict, but the one here could be more buttery. Sir Benedict ($16 for two) however, is no ordinary stuff. Eggs and bacon are the best couple ever, no one can resist the temptation when eggs meet bacon.

Lets have a pancake party!

Soft and fluffy, the Pancake Party ($10 for 3) is the perfect start to a good breakfast. I’ve decided, pancakes are my favorite breakfast food. You know what I’d do? Dip the pancake into the honey syrup, and mix it with the fresh butter cream; this is sheer luxury.

I love the sauteed mushrooms and juicy tomatoes that came together with the Papillote ($12). The sliced smoked salmon of bright red hue was wrapped around the scrambled eggs and presented on top of the toast.

* * *

If you are craving for breakfast food during dinner, Hatched is definitely an ideal place. All day brunch, anyone?

Brunch is the only reason for waking up early on a Sunday morning.

If you are the type that can never wake up on time for breakfast, there are restaurants like Hatched and Wild Honey serving all day breakfast. I am always excited by the idea of having weekday brunch at Prive, or Jones the Grocer.

All Day Breakfast, All Day Brunch, Sunday Brunch, Breakfast Buffet, Weekday Brunch, Weekend Breakfast. Oops, but I just love typing that.

I love making lists. I’d think all day long about all the possible places, call every single one of them to double-check they are indeed serving brunch and jot down all the information. There’s no need to fret the next time anyone ask me for recommendations of the best brunch places in Singapore.

I hope this list of brunch places in Singapore will help on your hunt for the perfect breakfast. And just in case you are wondering, my all time favourite restaurants for brunch are Riders cafe, Barracks Cafe and Privé bakery café.

I’ve said it before, and I’m not afraid to say it again, Kim’s Family Restaurant is my favorite place for Korean food in Singapore. I like it because they always serve ten side-dishes (I like to call them appetizers) no matter how many main dishes you ordered, I like the tasty and affordable Korean food there, and I like the fact that they are just ten minutes away from my place and I can have Korean food whenever cravings call.

I like it, because I like it. Why am I even explaining? Make a trip there and you will know.

As for kimchi, I’m sorry to admit, she’s just not my type. Even after trying it for a few times, kimchi just doesn’t do it for me. Sure, it’s a great appetizer, sour, slightly spicy – the perfect combination to get your palate going, but I’m just not that into kimchi.

I know there’s at least a dozen of people will hate me if I say this, but I have never been a fan of Ramen. Fine, maybe it’s just me, but ordering ramen makes me feel like we are paying restaurant price for instant noodles. With the increasing number of Japanese Ramen restaurants opening in Singapore, all the ramen-lovers are rushing to compare which place has the best ramen, but you know what, I don’t crave for ramen, so unless someone drag me along, it’s highly impossible for me to explore any ramen restaurants.

Okay this is tricky, since we did ordered Ramyeon ($8) with meat. It wasn’t too bad, I like the intense flavor of the stock, and the presence of egg, meat, seaweed that made the ramen, uh, tasty.

Bibimbap ($10) is, of course, delicious with chili, lots and lots of red spicy-sweet chili. Topped with ingredients like meat, seaweed, beansprout, and vegetables, and mix together with chili; the hot stone pot kept the temperature of the rice pipping hot – it’s perfect!

The Seafood pancake ($10) is a lovely appetizer, but do not let the word appetizer mislead you; the portion of the Korean-style pancake was more than enough to feed the four of us.

If you have another place that serves affordable Korean food with lots of side dishes, please let me know. For now, I will stick to Kim’s Family Restaurant.

I’m head over heels like love with brunch. It’s more like the feeling of being able to slowly enjoy a long extended breakfast plus lunch, while watching time slips by. The idea of an all-day brunch place appeals to me – it’s damn sexy.

Of late, I’m always too busy over the weekends that there wasn’t a chance to have my favorite brunch, and so when I found out that KPO Cafe serves all day brunch during my first visit, I casually suggested to my friend, “let’s have brunch for dinner.” Okay, maybe casually is an understatement; it was a desperate attempt to plot and make her believe that instead of having steak and salad, it’s the norm to have eggs and pancakes for dinner.

Now, I think I’m really a crazy person (having ice cream for dinner) when it comes to food; I mean who in the right mind will want to have brunch during dinner ? Not many. I have pitched the idea to some of my friends, but most of them think that I’m joking. Surprisingly, it’s either my scheme works or my friend is just as crazy as me – we had brunch for dinner.

How can any brunch be without Eggs Benedict? It is like what har hau is to dim sum, or how chili crabs will be without the deep-fried mantou. After my first encounter with eggs benedict, I’m hooked. The thick creamy hollandaise sauce that is drizzled on top of the beautifully poached egg – it’s a truly magnificent sight to behold.

KPO’s Egg Benedict ($13) uses bacon streaks instead of ham or salmon, and together with the poached eggs, they sat prettily on a slice of thick white toast. For $13, I was expecting a lot more, and sadly it did not deliver. Oh, there’s only one poached eggs? I turned to my friend with a we-have-to-share-kind-of-look. On second thoughts, it was actually not that bad, the streaky bacon was a hit with poached eggs, I would however prefer to have muffin or baguette, instead of white toast. Anyway, the hollandaise sauce was pretty awesome too – honey, it’s all about the butter.

Do you want to pancake with me?

And yes, if there’s one thing which I absolutely adored (besides eggs benedict) – it will be Pancakes ($6). Like I said before, eating pancakes required some knowledge, to cut the long story short; just dunked the fluffy pancakes into the bowl of syrup, let it soaked and immerse in the essence of the wonderful liquid, and I guarantee: you will be happy boys and girls.

I know, the pancakes here look rather sad, they are certainly not like what I had before, but what to do? When you are a hungry man craving for brunch in the middle of town, there’s not much options. Well to be fair, it’s not expensive to have two pancakes for six dollars, it’s more like the consistency of the pancake; one is over-toast, and the other one pales in comparison.

Anyway, this time round, the first question that they asked was not credit card or cash. Instead, they went one step further, they brought me the bill (when I did not ask for it) immediately after the eggs benedict arrived on my table. And so if you are one who will be disturbed by such “tiny acts”, I suggest you head to somewhere else instead. As for me? I like the place enough to go back the following weekend after my first visit. All right, maybe I’m intoxicated by the happiness of finally having eggs benedict after such a long time that I’m not making sense now. If you like brunch, go here, here or here.

I’m head over heels, deeply in love. I think about you when I’m having lunch, I miss you during dinner, and I dreamt about you at night. All I want, is you. It becomes a tiny obsession that I can’t stop thinking about it, all day long. Show me the way into your heart. Brunch, I love you.

There’s eggs benedict (RM12.50), eggs fiorentine, eggs with toast, scrambled, over-easy, sunny side-up; all different ways to have your eggs. I will like to have one of each kind please. Muffins or toast beneath the beautiful poached eggs. Salmon or ham to go along? Eating salmon will make your hair grow longer and healthier, while having ham will keep you happy and cheerful the whole day. So how about both? And lots of hollandaise sauce too!

Eating pancakes (RM8) on its own, is a huge challenge; there are just so many ways to do it. Let’s start with syrup shall we? The thin lubricant ones that you can soak the fluffy pancakes in, to absorb all the goodness, or the thick, heavy type that will slowly melt and flow off the warm hotcakes. You can choose to have the butter at room temperature, or take a frozen cube of butter and watch it slowly melt off the golden brown bed.

Me?

I will have honey, lots and lots of honey from my honey, and then I will spread the whole surface with butter. But when there’s no honey, syrup will do nicely too, drenched it with the whole bottle of syrup they provide, and ask for more if it’s not enough!

I must be a lucky man; brunch and my other love, desserts getting along together.

I knew this was it, the place I’ve to go when I came across reading it. Pink Sage is totally my-kind-of-place! And they do burgers too! I was so tempted to order everything from the menu, but I didn’t of course. That’s the perfect excuse for my next visit.

The sunshine peek across the room, it’d been a great night. Laying on his broad and hairy chest, she could hear his heart, lubb-dub.. lubb-dup .. in slow and regular beats. He stir and look at her, under the sunlight; she looks angelic with her long gorgeous tresses floating and her beautiful smile brightening up the room. They cuddled tightly, and he whispered softly into her ears, baby, thank you for being here with me.

Waking up beside the one you love, is a blessing in itself.

Sliding two slices of bread into the toaster, putting the kettle to boil, beating the eggs and cooking it in the pan, frying the pancake mixture, spreading the jam onto the bread, boiling that cup of very nice coffee, placing the scrambled eggs, bacon & ham nicely onto the plate; preparing breakfast for your other half, with love.

Watching her nibble off the toast, feeding him the delicious pancakes with flowing syrup, pouring lots of hollandaise sauce over the poached eggs Benedict; I love breakfast!

* * *

Kith cafe is the kind of place you will go to and call home, because it’s like home, to the owners. It’s very tiny, at best holding at most 10 people, but good news, they are expanding and opening another space, just a stone’s throw away.

p.s: What do you think about the photo? I thought it will be fun to do a “magazine cover”.

I have a friend, his name is Jones. He is a grocer, and he ain’t a normal grocer. Gourmet products, that’s right. All the customers would drop by and waved, “Hello Jones!”. And the kids would peeked around curiously, and oh yes, they had a song which goes something like this;

Jones the grocer, Can we eat it?

Jones the grocer, Yes we can!

Jones the grocer, I want some food!

Jones the grocer, Come and get it!

My latest breakfast-brunch crave brought me to Jones the grocer, because they are one of the few that serves brunch during weekdays (the other few being Prive, Rider’s, and Casa Verde).

Much as I liked having brunch on a lazy Sunday morning, but the idea of having it during a WEEKDAY enthralls me even more! Well the rest of the world rushed off to work, I’m slowly sipping a cup of coffee, having my favourite eggs, and reading the newspaper. You get the idea?

I want breakfast. I want eggs. I want pancakes.

Pancakes we wanted, and Coconut pancakes ($12.5) we got! Sour mango wasn’t exactly what we expected, but it presented a contrast with the syrup, well they called it the palm sugar syrup here. Whatever, all the syrup tasted the same to me, sweet and sweet!

And did you see what I saw? Vanilla beans! Tiny speaks of vanilla beans! I’m not going to go into the story of how excited I’ll become when I saw the beans, but, I’m excited! It was nice having vanilla beans with pancakes, but we did felt that it would be better to have it with butter and syrup for breakfast at least. And oh ya, the pancakes here are one of the thickest-I-ever-came-across.

Jones english breakfast ($20). I’ll like to call it the best-of-everything. Poached eggs, grilled bacon, pork sausages, sautéed mushroom, and even slow roasted tomato for some nutritional balance! What is there not to like?

I can never resist the golden-yellow egg yolk flowing out of the pure egg white: striptease – stop playing with me or I’ll eat you up! I put the poached eggs, bacon, and mushroom on top of the sourdough (the sausage was too huge to fit in on top), and I tried to put everything in one bite.

Well I failed of course, but that’s obviously what I intended to; in this way I could repeat and repeat the same full-mouth-process until I finished the whole thing, and wanting more.

Total bill was $35.75 for the brunch, they had 10% service charge but the 7% GST was already included in the bill. Was it expensive? No, for the mere thought that I was having my breakfast while the rest of the world were busy slogging it out in the office, that’s something priceless.

But for weekday brunch, I’ll prefer Rider’s and Prive if you have your own transport, not that it is easy to get to dempsey either.

Pssh, let me tell you my little secret, I love brunch. Gotta! No, it’s a well-known fact that I like to indulge in eating eggs, pancakes and waffles on a lazy morning. The secret I’m sharing – my favourite place, Epicurious at Robertson Quay.

My heart starts to beat faster, my face blushed, and subconsciously, I started to touch my hair. My eyes followed you across the room, you arrived in front of me – like a fairy descending from heaven. I stumbled, not knowing what to say next . . .

Two poached eggs with grilled smoked ham on an English muffin; the best combination you could ever ask for for breakfast. And we asked for more Hollandaise sauce, dipping everything into it. Oh my, it was so, so good! I-will-always-order-this. Eggs Benedict ($12),

Oh baby! The glorious golden maple syrup slowly flowed off, and I couldn’t wait to lick you. And we asked for more butter; cupid struck. Maple syrup & butter are a perfect match made in heaven. And honey, I forgot to ask for your name last night, Pancakes ($6)? What a lovely name!

Nana dear, I’m so into you. You got that something, what can I do? I tell you what I want, what I really really want. I wanna, I wanna, I wanna really really really more nutella! Choc-nana sandwich ($5.0)

Opps, I did it again. And we had more eggs. I know, I know. We shouldn’t have. Yet I succumbed to your seduction and was even tempted to go for the baked eggs, and burrito too!

Two scrambled eggs ($6) served with buttered toast, with additional sides of smoked salmon ($1.80) & sausages ($2.50). The potatoes were surprisingly very good! I-am-so-in-love!

***

Total bill was $38.9 for the four items we had for breakfast among the three of us. Having been in the brunch-mood, I must say breakfast at Epicurious Robertson Quay is one of the most satisfying, and affordable among the many places I tried. I-will-go-back-again, for breakfast.

And have you signed up for LIC food outing at Epicurious this coming Sat 2th May?

Four. I wasted three opportunities before I got to know you. On our brief initial encounter, we brushed past each other as I was going somewhere else. On the subsequent two occasions, I wasn’t fully prepared, not when I’m in running attire. Despite all that, I’m glad we finally met, this time prim and proper, Hello Riders, my name is Brad.

Here is the place where you can look at horsies galloping freely on the greens. Here is the place where you can escape from the hectic city life. Here is the place where you can have brunch at a tranquil and serene environment amidst the lush greeneries. Riders Cafe.

This seat is for us, for horse-grazing.

Nothing beats having morning pancakes ($10) to start off your day. There was berries compote, there was whipped cream, and there was maple syrup on the pancakes of course. Who can resist the smiley pancakes, certainly not me. Well, we should have asked for more butter!

In my dictionary, eggs and brunch are synonymous with each other. A hearty brunch won’t be completed without any Egg Benedicts ($12). Instead of the smoked salmon, we decided to have ham with eggs. And personally, I felt that hams complimented eggs better. I still loved the latter though. Poached eggs, with hams on a toasted muffins, and breakfast potatoes to go along with. This is brunch.

I succumbed to temptation, I love to show pictures of egg ben.

The Riders Breakfast ($13) was supposed to be very reasonable. But we heard the waitress wrongly, so we said we wanted smoked ham, bacon and sausage. All three of them, instead of just choosing one. The damage was $8 more for the two additional sides. Well it’s quite a heartache getting the bill in the aftermaths, to pay the money for 2 tiny sausages and 2 strip of bacons. The money would be more well-spend if we got another dish instead. But this was solely our own mistake, and there’s no denying the breakfast was excellent, all of my favourite. Scrambled eggs, ham, bacon, sausages, beans, potatoes and toast.

Total bill was $56 for three breakfast items, and 1 drink. Well it would be around ten bucks lesser if we had not added the extra sides, so I say brunch at Rider’s is really value and excellent for the superb ambience of the place. But, fairways drive is hardly a place where you will call accessible unless you got transport, or cab.

I will definitely come back again, for brunch, or even for lunch. Their lunch and diner menu looks very affordable too! But another thing to note, I went on a weekday morning, so it was relatively peaceful. If you were to go on a weekend for brunch, the result might not be the same. See you there!

ps: if you had noticed, I had also included my signature See you there! tag for my previous two post on Graze and Patisserie Glace as well. It just so happened I went to four fabulous place within this two weeks!

Jollibean has been around for many years, and sometimes you tend to take things for granted when they are always there, so it is until now that i actually try something from them. Jollibean actually has 35 branches island-wide till date, so it’s no surprise seeing them in your heartland halls or even downtown.

Soyabeans are one of the world’s richest natural foods, high in quality, low in saturated fats, contains no cholestrerol, are a good source of soluble fiber, so how much more can you go?

Unfortunately, i only had eyes for pan cakes, or “mee chiang kueh” that day. The selections from Jollibean did pose quite a problem to me as there were four different kinds of pancakes to choose from. The traditional one, the round one, the crispy flat one or the twisted one. The traditional one is always steady and reliable, while the round one seems more like those Japanese pancakes, and the twisted one nearly got me there since i didn’t try any kind of those before.

Jolli pancake selections ($2.20)

In the end i got the pancake box which comes with three different flavours, namely peanut, red bean and cheese.

Peanut pancake

The peanut pancake is easily the best out of the 3 flavours, the peanuts fillings were generous, and who can resist the crunchy peanut? I guess i am more tradition when coming to pancake, stick to the peanut one!

Red bean pancake

The red bean pancake was all right, but somehow i found their red bean to be too sweet for my liking. And i think i don’t quite fancy the pancake skin, i should have gone for the traditional pancake, but there’s always a first time for everything.

Cheese pancake

This was a disaster. Okay maybe i’m exaggerating, but the cheese was too plain, not cheesy enough, and i think cheese isn’t a very suitable filling for pancake, unless they are those hot cheesy, and will melt-in-mouth kind.

Total bill is $2.20 for a box of pancake. I think i chose the wrong kind of pancake, will be trying the other types next time. And i didn’t have a drink of their famous soyabean milk which is $1.60 for the original flavor, and they have other special flavours available. There’s also Mr Bean around if you don’t fancy Jollibean, competition is always good for us.
