Tomo Izakaya

Ciki and I were bar-hopping after our dinner at Ippudo Ramen, and before going to our second stop at Orgo Bar, we decided to have some snacks at Tomo Izakaya, Esplanade Mall.

The Japanese casual dining restaurant has an original outlet at Clarke Quay, and they serve a variety of small dishes together with Japanese beers and sake.

Izakaya is a term referring to a Japanese drinking establishment that’s focused on drinks, but like many bars, serves food so that you will not drink on an empty stomach.

Takashimaya Basement Japanese Food Court

Takashimaya Japanese Food Court

Takashimaya at Ngee Ann City had revamped their basement Japanese food court. The current space is bigger and it has more Japanese eateries – like Baikohken, Nakajima Suisan, Romankan Yokohama, Tsuru Koshi Udon, and Yonehachi – which serve cheap and good Japanese food.

So if you haven’t been there for a while, maybe it’s time to check it out when you are looking for a place to eat in Orchard.

10 Best Meals of 2011

Jaan Singapore

Wow. Another year just passed by like that. This year was a big one, and I couldn’t have done it without you guys. Thank you for being here.

I ate a lot last year, and I managed to travel quite a bit as well. Like what I always say, travelling is just an excuse for me to eat more. So I’m not surprised that some of the best meals that I had last year were during my travels.

To be frank, it’s quite difficult to impress my jaded palate nowadays. You see, the problem of having too much good food is you will always have a benchmark to compare against, and this will lead you on a (never-ending) quest for something equally good, if not better – which is often quite impossible.

Thankfully, I’ve had several really good meals throughout the past 365 days, and I hope that I’ll be able to share with you more good food this time next year.

So for now, here are the 10 Best Meals that I had in 2011.

Martell Cognac

I’ve always wanted to visit Europe, so I was really happy when I got the chance to go on a trip a few weeks ago. While I was excited about going to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower and explore the patisseries, the highlight of my trip was definitely joining Martell on their Pure Gourmet Tour in the Cognac region.

Over the three days, we had an insider view of what goes on behind the scenes at Martell, and it was such an eye-opening experience as we witnessed first-hand the entire cognac-production process. Join me on this adventure to learn more about Martell and cognac!

Ssikkek Korean BBQ

I’m pretty sure that I’ve eaten enough to keep me going till 2012. But somehow it is impossible for me to say no to Korean BBQ.

Ssikkek Korean Grill at Novena Ville is one of the places on my list of Korean BBQ Buffet in Singapore that I’ve always wanted to try. At just $12+ for lunch, and $22+ for dinner, it is one of the cheapest Korean BBQ Buffets in Singapore.

Eating in Bangkok Thailand

Eating in BKK

Since it was my first visit to Bangkok Thailand after many years, everything had to be perfect. I wanted to see, shop, and eat all the things that are special here. I did a bit of research by reading blogs and getting tips from friends who go to Bangkok every year.

We arrived in Suvarnabhumi International Airport with an empty stomach. Throughout the three days, we ate our way through the capital city of Thailand.

Bangkok in HD Full Colours

Four Faced Buddha

Bangkok - the capital city of Thailand – is one of the most exciting cities in Asia. Besides magnificent temples and palaces, it also has busy markets, vibrant nightlife, and of course, plenty of good food. Back in July, I went to Bangkok for a short weekend getaway, and boy, it was so much fun.

With the major floods in the past few months, it has not been an easy period for the Thai people. But I’m glad that everything is slowly returning to normal in the land of smiles, and from what I’ve heard, most of the areas in Bangkok have recovered from the flooding.

Here are some of the photos that I took during my trip to Bangkok.
