The name Tuck Shop rings a bell in your mind doesn’t it? To many of us it is the carefree times during our primary school time, where we run to the tuckshop for our recess break.
Located at the alley of Tanjong Pagar Road (5min walk from Tanjong Pagar MRT), Tuckshop is actually a combination of a cafe and bar, i’ll say more of a place to chill out, but serving food that’s more than just finger food, they whipped out something more for a bar. The indoor decor is quite cool, blue-painted walls, with simple black furnitures, and the draw of the place will be its live music by the Singapore band “The Bandits” every Wed & Thu, and tuckshop residents Dean & J’Manuka every Fri.

Swensen the name that all are us are familiar with, the place that is famous for its ice cream. Swensen’s a household name in Singapore, the trademark tiffany lamps for relaxing meal comes into mind when we used to think of Swensen’s. Nowadays, we are always hearing people say how Swensen’s food has decline and was not as good as before, but I decided to give a Swensen’s a try because the promise of its newly launch menu, which Swensen’s claim that it is their biggest & tasiest menu ever, with a additional 27 new dishes added, and 21 ice cream sundae and drinks. Oh boy was i proved right by what people say, Swensen’s really on the decline.
Went to Swensen’s Cafe Restaurant @ West Mall with my bro since i just wanted a quick and simple lunch. Upon reaching the place, we waited a while outside for someone to attend to us, but none came. So we took our own initiative to enter the place, then a waiter finally “notice” us and bring us to a table. We browse through the “new” menu and made our orders

Swensen’s all time favourite, Fish & Chips ($12.90) I though this was quite ordinary here, nothing special about the fish nor chips, and at that price, i guess i will be better off having a fish & chips at a hawker centre.

Long heard of this famous ice-cream shop but did not have a chance to patronise it. Today Mister Ang driving so finally had the chance to go there. So after finishing our dinner at Greenwood, we head straight to serene centre which was nearby. When we reached the place it was full house, so we waited a while for our seats. Single scoop comes at $2.50 each, while double scoop is $4.00. There is also the 500ml tub at $8.00
The 3 of us ordered double scoop each and share, so each of us can taste 6 flavours instead of 2. Smart right? There are other flavours like black sesame, soursop, and some others which i can’t remember. But we dun have the courage to try them, so we ordered the more popular ones.
One by one, the top two is teh tareh (coffee) and nutella, bottom left is burn cameral and the popular cookies & cream, bottom right is reversO (chocolate) and ho. We judge the popularity by seeing which one finish first. Make a guess? Cookies & cream and nutella tied for first, followed by cameral, horlick, coffee and reverO (chocolate). My personal fav is nutella, never tried before. The reversO was too strong in flavour, as in after eating it when we eat the other flavours we cant taste anything. So we leave that for the last. lol
All in all, Island creamery is quite valued for money, there is a similar ice-cream shop called Daily scoop at sunset way which offers double scoop for $5, or Haato @ Ridgewood Close double scoop for $4.50 Head there when u have a chance.
