Hahndorf Inn – 150-Year-Old German Restaurant & Bar In Adelaide Hills

Hahndorf Inn

Having been in business for more than 150 years, Historic Hahndorf Inn is an established restaurant serving up the most authentic German grub you can find in Adelaide Hills. The dining establishment is both a restaurant and bar that comes with their own open fire places that keeps the place warm during winter.

The restaurant takes pride in serving food made from only quality ingredients that are sourced locally and also from suppliers in Bavaria and Austria. Till today, the family-owned business is still managed by fifth generation of the Holmes family—so diners can expect the menu to be forward looking, yet traditional to keep the original flavours intact.

Drop by Hahndorf Inn with an empty stomach—you will need it for the huge sharing platters of meats and their refreshing Bavarian beers.

Spacious to boot, the boisterous ambience, rustic setting and warm attitude of the waitstaff at Hahndorf Inn encourage you to linger on for more than just a meal. Diners can relax in style at the al fresco seating outside or head indoors for their long wooden communal tables if you happen to visit in a larger group.

Hahndorf Platte

Their signature Hahndorf Inn (Deluxe) Platte is a sight to behold.

Meant for groups of two to four, the deluxe Bavarian platter features their famous schweinshaxe, schnitzel, sausages, Bavarian rissoles, beef ribs, sauerkraut, rotkohl, potato salad, mashed potato, mustard, mushroom sauce and pork jus. This platter is definitely not for the fainthearted!

For something less over-the-top, the restaurant’s house specials also include Schweins Rippchen (pork ribs), Rinder Rippchen (beef ribs), Schweine Schnitzel (pork schnitzel) and a range of sides.

There may be plenty of options when it comes to their drinks menu but any regular will tell you that it is their Bavarian beers you should not miss out. Depending on what you are feeling up to that day, they have just the beer that will suit your mood.

The  Irlbacher Premium Vollbier Hell, for example, is a party drink that was concocted for festivals. Their house lager—Arcobräu Schloss Helles Lager—is mild in taste which makes it easy to drink. On the other end of the spectrum, Arcobräu Schloss Dunkel is a full-flavoured Bavarian dark lager that comes with a malty aroma.
