Nantsuttei Ramen: Best Ramen in Singapore?

Nantsuttei Ramen Singapore

Even though Singapore does not have four seasons, I’m perfectly sure that everyone will welcome a bowl of ramen during a  cold rainy day.

I first knew Nantsuttei through several mentions on Twitter, but all I knew was that a) they are a Japanese restaurant, and b) they are very popular. The funny thing was I only knew that they served ramen after walking into the restaurant.

The new Parco Marina Bay at Millenia Walk is almost like a mini Japanese foodie town. Majority of the Parco Marina Bay restaurants on level 3 are very skewed towards the eating cultures and influences of The Land of the Rising Sun. When you are there, go to Saboten for their tonkatsu, Ma Maison for a twist of Japanese-French cuisine, or Keisuke ramen for the shrimp-broth ramen.

In comparison with the other Ramen that I tried in Singapore, Nantsuttei ramen was much greasier as it came with a layer of black ma-yu (roasted garlic oil). It was a shame that the bowl of original Nantsuttei Ramen ($12) only had a single slice of chashu.

There are other variations that had additional toppings of green onion (Negi Ramen $15), or red pepper (Dragon Ramen $15). I’m not sure if it’s just me, but it seemed a little silly to pay for additional garnishing – I’d rather have more of the delicious chashu!

For a long time, I didn’t get what’s the big fuss about ramen — I think it’s either you love or hate it. Honestly, I don’t feel  that Nantsuttei Ramen is worth queuing up for. My personal favourite is still the tonkatsu ramen from Tampopo. Having tried Santouka ramen at Central recently, I think I am finally ready to take on the ramen world!

Which ramen restaurant in Singapore should I go next?

I wasn’t a big fan of Ramen but lately I found myself enjoying Ramen a lot. Definitely will try Nantsuttei. But personally I think Nong Shim instant Ramyun is the best. ;p

Glad to know ramen now became international food favoured by many in the world! It’s really comfort food for Japanese, that is, something to have in homesick abroad or to dive in after a long journey. In Singapore, I’ll be able to spend more time without missing my country. Great!!

Hmm have you tried muratama ramen at central? its pretty good but a little pricey in my opinion for a bowl of noodles. Ippudo is supposedly good but I heard from friends is overrated!

So you think the tonkatsu from Tampopo is better than the Shio Chashu ramen at Santouka? I’m a big fan of the latter, its my fav comfort food for the year. :)

Santouka has been my favourite so far! :)

    Add to your list:
    - Baikohken (North Canal Rd): I enjoyed this, go for their Miso base one
    - Miharu (Gallery Hotel): Their gyoza is better than their ramen
Ramen Play (RWS/313): Love the chives condiment on the side
    - Keisuke (Millenia Walk): Yet to try, but heard much abt it, read abt it from Travelling Hungry Boy

There are quite a few new players in the house, I’ve gotta go update my own ramen listing soon too! ;)

Personally I like nantsuttei dragon ramen and the rice over there. Is worth trying. But at Parco Marina Bay I still like keisuke more. The prawn/chicken(upon requesting) soup base is fantastic.

I try before the saboten there too.. The vegetable that is freeflow is so fresh and juicy(especially with the sesame sauce on the table). Super worth trying.. Not joke.

I just went there on Sunday. I personally find the broth too salty and too thick. I’m pretty sure some people love the broth, but it’s just too rich for me, haha.
I still like Tampopo more! :D

hi i know this post is abt ramen. u shd try the rice bowl at 5 to 6 bucks. It is better than their ramen in my opinion.

Their ramen is slightly on e salty side.
